#MarchForOurLives — HUNDREDS OF HRC VOLUNTEERS & SUPPORTERS JOINING PULSE SURVIVORS, KARAMO BROWN TO MARCH FOR GUN SAFETY MEASURES: Survivors and family of victims of the Pulse Nightclub shooting, along with Karamo Brown, a host of Queer Eye and graduate of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, will lead hundreds of HRC volunteers and supporters tomorrow in the March for Our Lives in Washington. Christine Leinonen, mother of Drew Leinonen; Brandon Wolf, friends with Drew and Drew’s boyfriend Juan Guerrero, both killed in the Pulse attack; and José Arraigada will join HRC in the march, along with Earl Crittenden, onePulse Foundation Board Chair; and Pulse survivor, Ricardo.  Christine Leinonen, Wolf, and Arraigada appeared and spoke on stage at the DNC one month after the 2016 shooting, which took the lives of 49 people — most of them LGBTQ and Latinx. More about the march from Forbes.

  • Yesterday, more than 200 dedicated HRC volunteers from 25 states and DC met with nearly 200 Congressional offices to discuss issues critical to the LGBTQ community. HRC’s annual Lobby Day kicked off HRC’s annual Spring Equality Convention, which brings together hundreds of the organization’s volunteers and leaders from across the country for training, workshops and speeches by equality movement leaders.
  • Today: Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards and Virginia Delegate Danica Roem will address attendees at the Renaissance Washington DC Downtown.

Thank you, @HRC for meeting with me to discuss the Equality Act and ways we can support transgender equality and inclusion in the military. Everyone who wants to serve, should be able to serve, regardless of how they identify. pic.twitter.com/K3IH778XwV

HRC ENDORSES NELSON ARAUJO FOR NEVADA SECRETARY OF STATE: “Millions of Americans — including LGBTQ people of color and transgender Americans — are more vulnerable to discrimination at the ballot box than ever before,” said HRC Nevada State Manager Briana Escamilla. “Nevadans can trust they have a proven champion of fairness and justice in Nelson Araujo and HRC is proud to endorse his candidacy for Secretary of State. We look forward to Assemblyman Araujo making history in November as the first openly LGBTQ person elected to statewide office in the Silver State.” More from HRC.

FEEL GOOD FRIDAY — OPENLY LESBIAN ACTOR, DIRECTOR AND WRITER LENA WAITHE ON THE COVER OF VANITY FAIR: Says Waithe (@LenaWaithe), of her groundbreaking character Denise in the acclaimed Netflix series Master of None, “For so many of us who have not seen an out Black lesbian front and center this way, her arrival is a small, long-awaited revelation. Her arrival is our arrival.” Read the cover story from Vanity Fair.

MORNING MUST READ FROM TRANS WOMAN ON ANTI-LGBTQ JUDICIAL NOMINEE KYLE DUNCAN: Nicole Maines, whose father is on HRC’s Parents for Transgender Equality Council, writes, “Mr. Duncan… has never treated transgender people fairly or with respect. In fact, he has promoted cruel and demeaning statements about transgender people and repeatedly worked to undermine basic human rights for people like me.” Duncan represented the Gloucester (Va.) County School Board in its case against Gavin Grimm, the transgender high school student whose restroom access was restricted based on his gender identity. More from Portland Press Herald.

“BETSY DEVOS IS A DANGER TO TRANSGENDER CHILDREN”: Vanessa Ford (@VanessaFordDC) who, with her husband, JR, was a founding member of HRC’s Parents for Transgender Equality National Council, writes of trying to give DeVos a chance after she met with the Ford family – including their transgender daughter, Ellie. “I hoped that putting a face — our family’s face — to the issue would be the catalyst she needed to stand and do what was best for trans youth.” Sadly, since that 2017 meeting, DeVos’s actions as education secretary “have actively placed thousands of transgender students like my daughter at a greater risk of discrimination while she refuses to enforce the law and investigate Title IX complaints,” Ford writes. More from Newsweek.
