The 69^th annual Emmy Awards air this Sunday, with a substantial amount of LGBTQ talent up for awards, inclusive shows nominated, and LGBTQ presenters at the ceremony. It’s important for the industry to keep telling our stories, and for the LGBTQ creatives in front of and behind the camera to get the recognition they deserve. The Emmys will air Sunday, September 17^th, at 8pm EST/5pm PST on CBS.

The presenters for the 69^th annual Emmy Awards were announced this week. The list includes out actor BD Wong who was nominated for Outstanding Guest Actor for Mr. Robot and infamous out actress and comedian Lily Tomlin, who is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for Grace and Frankie. Previous Emmy winner Sarah Paulson will also be presenting, as will Matt Bomer.

In addition to Tomlin, other out nominees include Evan Rachel Wood for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for Westworld and Samira Wiley for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her role as lesbian character Moira in The Handmaid’s Tale. On the comedy side, Kate McKinnon is nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for Saturday Night Live, and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’s Titus Burgess is nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.

Behind the camera nominations include Lena Waithe for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series for the Master of None episode “Thanksgiving,” which was a beautiful portrayal of her coming out story. Out director Jamie Babbit received a nomination for Outstanding Director of a Comedy Series for the episode “Intellectual Property” of Silicon Valley. Ryan Murphy received five nominations, which included Outstanding Writing and Outstanding Directing for a Limited Series, Movie or Dramatic special for Feud: Bette and Joan.

The nominations for Outstanding Drama Series include LGBTQ-inclusive shows House of Cards, This is Us, and The Handmaid’s Tale, the latter of which received three Creative Arts Emmys. Master of None, Modern Family, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and Veep are all nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series. For Outstanding Sketch Variety Series, Billy on the Street, Portlandia, and Saturday Night Live all received a nomination and Project Runway and RuPaul’s Drag Race are nominated for Outstanding Reality Competition Program. The GLAAD Media Award-winning episode of Black Mirror, “San Junipero” was nominated for both Outstanding Television Movie and Outstanding Writing for a Limited Series, Movie or Dramatic Special.

The Creative Arts Emmys were announced last weekend, and the winners include Jane Lynch for Outstanding Actress in a Short Form Comedy or Drama Series for Dropping the Soap, three wins for RuPaul’s Drag Race, and three wins for The Handmaid’s Tale, including Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series being awarded to Alexis Bledel for portraying the lesbian character of Ofglen.

The winners will be announced at the 69^th Annual Emmy Award ceremony hosted by Stephen Colbert on CBS at 8pm ET/5pm PT. Tune into the show to support LGBTQ voices and stories in television and to see if your favorite nominees will take home the statue.
