Must-See LGBTQ TV: #ProudToBe programming on MTV, the 71st Tony Awards, and more

All month, MTV is airing special programming to accompany their #ProudToBe campaign. On Sunday, they will be covering the D.C. Equality March and the L.A. Resist March. On Monday morning, MTV will air an updated version of their special from last year, “True Life: We Are Orlando,” on the one year mark of the mass shooting at Pulse Night Club which claimed the lives of 49 people on June 12, 2016 in Orlando, Florida, leaving 53 injured. The 71st Annual Tony Awards air this Sunday and promise to be an exciting show. Various LGBTQ artists and inclusive works have been nominated. Standouts include Indecent which is nominated for Best Play. Dear Evan Hansen from out composer Benj Pasek is nominated in several categories included Best Musical. Other nominees include David Hyde Pierce and Gavin Creel for Hello, Dolly!, Cynthia Nixon for Lillian Hellman’s The Little Foxes, and Andrew Rannells and Brandon Uranowitz for Falsettos. Out presenters include Sarah Paulson, Jonathan Groff and ten time Tony award winner Tommy Tune. The 71st Annual Tony Awards: Sunday, 8pm ET/5pm PT on CBS.
The penultimate episode of American Gods airs on Sunday. The episode, entitled “A Prayer for Mad Sweeney,” sees the return of Salim (Omid Abtahi) as he joins Laura Moon (Emily Browning) and Mad Sweeney (Pablo Schreiber) as they all drive across the country for their own purposes. Salim is in search of the Jinn he’d met in New York who he would like to re-connect with. American Gods: Sunday, 9pm on Starz.
The season finale of Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale will be available to stream on Hulu on Wednesday. The finale will raise the stakes for everyone, and bring plots brewing all season to a head. This includes the fate of queer character Moira (Samira Wiley), who was last seen escaping and is on the run from the authorities. The Handmaid’s Tale: Wednesday, on Hulu.
