Every week, The GLAAD Wrap brings you LGBTQ-related entertainment news highlights, fresh stuff to watch out for, and fun diversions to help you kick off the weekend.

1) Paul Verhoeven and Saïd Ben Saïd are teaming up to work on Blessed Virgin. The film is based on the book Immodest Acts: The Life Of A Lesbian Nun in Renaissance Italy and stars Virginie Efira. The movie will be filmed in French and will go by the title Sainte Vierge. Filming should begin soon. In other film news, out actor Billy Eichner will soon be singing “Hakuna Matata”. Eichner will be playing Timon in Disney’s upcoming live action version of The Lion King. The film is scheduled to be released July 19^th, 2019. Titus Burgess has also joined the film Departures, where he will play a flight attendant. The film centers on a teenager with a terminal illness named Syke (Maisie Williams). She meets Calvin (Asa Butterfield) who is a baggage handler at an airport. Together, they work through Skye’s bucket list and Calvin learns to conquer his fears.

2) Gaycation with Ellen Page and Ian Daniel is releasing a special episode titled Gaycation: United We Stand. The episode takes a look at the LGBTQ community under the Trump administration, and includes a look at the Women’s March this past January with interviews from LGBTQ Americans. The episode will premiere April 30^th at 10pm on Viceland. In other TV news, the BBC announced this week a special lineup of programming, “Gay Brittania,” which will include several LGBTQ projects to mark the 50th anniversary of the Sexual Offences Act 1967.

3) Pentatonix has released a video for their cover of “Can’t Help Falling In Love” by Elvis Presley. The song is off of their album PTX Vol. IV. You can watch the video below. In other music news, Jake Sheers from the Scissor Sisters has announced he’s going solo and will be going on a tour across the Southern U.S. The tour has five stops so far and includes dates in Louisville, Atlanta, Nashville, Birmingham, and New Orleans. 4) The 62nd annual Drama Desk award nominations, honoring theater both on and off Broadway, were announced on Thursday. LGBTQ-inclusive nominess include Indecent for Outstanding Play, the revival of Falsettos, and the revival of Jonathan Larson’s Tick Tick…Boom! for Best Revival of a Musical, David Hyde pierce for Outstanding Actor in a Play, Gavin Creel in Outstanding Featured Actor in a Musical, Cynthia Nixon for Outstanding Featured Actress in a Play, Terrence McNally in Outstanding Book of a Musical, Nathan Lane for Outstanding Featured Actor in a Play, and more. The winners will be annouced June 4th at The Town Hall in Manhattan.

5) The L.A. Dodgers will be hosting their fifth annual LGBTQ night on June 9^th at Dodger Stadium. The event will recognize LGBTQ athletes, coaches, and other sports industry professionals. Glee star Dot Marie Jones will be singing the national anthem with the Gay Men’s Chorus and the Trans Chorus of Los Angeles. Other celebrities expected to attend include Guillermo Diaz and Prop 8 plaintiffs Paul Katami and Jeff Zarrillo. Attendees at the event will receive a Dodgers pride t-shirt and be treated to a firework show. Tickets to the event are available now and can be found here.

6) The 33rd Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival is running on April 27th – May 4th. GLAAD is partnering with the festival to co-present the film Re:Orientations on May 2nd at 5:00 p.m. at the CGV Cinemas 3. The film is a follow up to the original 1984 film Orientations. 7) The webseries All For One has launched an Indiegogo campaign for season two. The show is a modern, LGBTQ-inclusive adaption of The 3 Musketeers, and features a female, bisexual lead. For more information on the show or the campaign, click here.
