On December 11, join GLAAD, award-winning songwriter Tena Clark, and the Human Rights Campaign for a rally for all Mississippians. The rally will begin at the Mississippi State Capitol and end at the Governor’s Mansion in Jackson. It is a rally to call for justice for not only the LGBTQ community in Mississippi, but for all people who find themselves marginalized, and for all those who wish to fight inequality and discrimination every step of the way.

Award-winning songwriter and producer, Tena Clark, will perform her social justice anthem “My, My Mississippi” as well as deliver some remarks about her home state. The song is available on iTunes, with 100% of the song’s proceeds supporting organizations advocating for the Mississippi LGBTQ community, including efforts to completely defeat the state’s so-called “religious liberty” laws.

In the lead up to the December 11 rally, GLAAD launched a digital campaign called #MyMississippi, which is dedicated to anyone who has called Mississippi “home.”

The song, rally, and campaign is in response to bills like HB1523, which was signed into law in Mississippi, but has been blocked by a judge. The law licenses discrimination against the LGBTQ community and other marginalized communities, as it allows for denial of social and medical services, housing discrimination, employment discrimination for those whose identity or expression is perceived as contradictory to their employer’s religious beliefs, foster care denial, denial of psychological therapy, and for schools and business owners to decide to implement “sex-specific” standards. 

If HB1523 does not represent the Mississippi you know and love, please join the campaign on social media. Include the hashtag “#MyMississippi” so your story can help us to accelerate acceptance in the Magnolia State.

Here is how you can get involved with #MyMississppi: 

• Post pictures, videos, and messages across social media using #MyMississippi
• Create original artwork for #MyMississippi and share it far and wide
• Write open letters to local politicians explaining why all Mississippians need full equality and acceptance. A couple of examples of open letters are on GLAAD’s blog, including pieces by Nykolas Alford and Amanda Watson.
• Share your story with local media
• Join GLAAD for the rally in Jackson at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 11
