Five Reasons HRC is Proud to Stand with the Other HRC: Hillary Rodham Clinton

During this week’s Democratic National Convention, presidential nominee Hillary Clinton and her party have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to LGBTQ equality, from the robust lineup of pro-equality speakers, to a record number of LGBTQ delegates, the first transgender speaker at a national party convention and the most LGBTQ-inclusive platform ever.

HRC is proud to support Hillary Clinton in 2016. She is a formidable champion for LGBTQ rights here and around the world, and has dedicated her life to making our country more equal.

Here’s why we’re with her.

  1. Hillary Clinton is dedicated to ending transgender violence, asserting that we must address the crisis: “We need to say, with one voice, that transgender people are valued, they are loved, they are us, they desire to be treated fairly and equally.”

  2. She supports marriage equality. In 2012, Hillary partnered with HRC’s Americans for Marriage Equality campaign, emphasizing her commitment to the issue: “LGBT Americans are our colleagues, our teachers, our soldiers, our friends, our loved ones – and they are full and equal citizens, and deserve the rights of citizenship. That includes marriage.”

  3. Hillary Clinton supports The Equality Act, federal legislation that would finally guarantee explicit, permanent protections for LGBTQ people under our existing civil rights laws. She said passing the Equality Act “will be my highest priority.”

  4. She strongly opposes the dangerous practice of so-called “conversion therapy,” calling for its end: “We should be supporting LGBT kids—not trying to change them.”

  5. Hillary Clinton will fight for LGBTQ equality around the world. As Secretary of State, she said, “Being LGBT does not make you less human. And that is why gay rights are human rights and human rights are gay rights.”

Hillary Clinton has committed her life to equality. That’s why we’re with her.
