“It was the day he and I were to set sail on the Starfish… we were walking the halls of Owl Castle before, just goofing off. We were talking about presentations and I told him he’d look good in a bleue dress. It started as a joke… I’d grasped his chin and was leaning close, like I was gonna kiss him. ‘How can I resist? …..easily.’ I pulled away and Sari came out of nowhere and dared us to actually kiss. Teenage boys… never can refuse a dare. So I turned back to him and I… I kissed him. The moment our lips touched… it was like this shock coursing through our veins. I knew right then and there that I’d been lying to myself for so long… I’d flirt with him and brush it off as playing when, in truth, I was in love and had been in denial. Aiden continued to be in denial. Which was rough cause we shared the same cabin on the ship. There was one night he had gotten drunk for the first time and passed out on my bunk after asking me if I thought he was cute. I was so tempted to shove him onto the floor. Instead, I climbed up onto his bunk. The next night is when he finally accepted it… He stopped fighting it and… And we’ve never looked back. He is the one I cannot live without…”

Once upon a time Vin and I had started a roleplay world inspired by Jim Henson’s Labyrinth; in particular what happened AFTERWARDS. We’ve decided to create the characters that inhabited this world of the Underground and its King/Queendoms, and bring them to life. It all started with Jareth and Sarah’s children and their epic love stories…and it has epically continued on and on through the generations.
What this world means to Vin and me…it is more than words can say. We put our souls into this world and what it represents. But it is our pleasure and excitement to be able to bring them to life.
If you ever wanted to see what it means to marry your best friend then look no further than one of the most amazing duos known in the Underground: Aiden and Jarik! While there were many ‘friends to lovers’ and shenaniganator-type of couples, none had quite the effect of this one.
Considering the Ravens and Lions were very close and familiar with each other it was natural that young Aiden and Jarik became best of friends. Jarik was an only child (at least until adulthood) and Aiden was the eldest of two much younger siblings. They were like two peas in a pod!
Being the firstborn of the High King and Queen as well being the first of The Ravens (divinely blessed and powerful shadow-wielding warriors) to follow in his grandfather Ciaran’s footsteps meant Aiden was destined for great things. Yet like his Owl father-in-law, Aiden decided to give up his throne to join his beloved Lion in the Leonardt lands and sat the throne as ruling prince there instead beside his future-King husband.
Jarik knew from day one that Aiden was “an ass of a Raven” who often got into trouble for his shenanigans but the Lion loved him for exactly who he was. And in turn Aiden completely loved and encouraged Jarik to be who he was: a vain pretty boy that could turn any head (man and woman, alike) and was proud of it…yet there was never any doubt he had eyes only for his Raven. In turn Aiden was Jarik’s absolute number one fanboy!
Being close to Maeve gave Jarik and Aiden the opportunity as teenagers to set sail aboard Captain Dante’s ship, Starfish, for a few months’ time. But prior to boarding they began to fall in love after a friend dared them to kiss and never looked back once they realized it could only be each other.
When it came time to announce their intentions to marry, they threw a joint-Presentation and declared each other as their intended and kissed…something that shocked their peers so much that it was spoken of for generations to come.
They were unashamedly and passionately in love until their dying breaths and were never shy about it. Their love story was legendary and one of the most well-known and beloved throughout the generations. Even Jarik’s siblings (even though they were born after his passing) knew him as if he were still alive thanks to their fathers.
…so, like…have you ever missed a character(s) so much that you are willing to kill off a shit ton of your other characters (think at least two years ((IRL)) worth of roleplay and storyline development) just to bring them back?
Well, Vin and I are!
Two generations had passed (think easily 20+ stories later) and during that time the Underground saw the tragic murder of the Raven family with only a single heir left: a young child who was now orphaned and unable to assume the throne.
Yet when that child grew up and proved himself unworthy to ascend the throne a deal was struck between his grandfather who had raised him: High King Aric (who had temporarily stepped in until a successor was crowned) and the Gods who he was personally friends with…and brought back his eldest son and his husband with the intention of seating THEM on the throne instead.
Now as young men with a second chance to relive their lives to the fullest, Aiden assumed the Raven throne as High King of the Underground with Jarik as his ruling prince this time; finally taking the throne he’d given up in his first life.
Under Aiden’s rule, the Underground flourished with peace and prosperity and he proudly saw a new generation of The Ravens step up and helped guide them to higher glory than they’d ever been before.
