Tune in to TLC tonight at 10:00 p.m. ET for the season two premiere of I Am Jazz!
Sharing this year’s GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Reality Program with I Am Cait, TLC’s acclaimed docuseries I Am Jazz returns for its second season tonight. The show, which follows teenager Jazz Jennings as she navigates life at home and the ups and downs of high school, allows viewers to learn what it’s like growing up as a highly visible teenager – who also happens to be transgender.
The 15-year-old Jennings, also released her new memoir yesterday: Being Jazz: My Life As a (Transgender) Teen. “This book reveals many rarely shared memories from my past that have molded me into the teenager I am today,” Jennings told TIME in an exclusive interview. “I hope that my challenges and triumphs resonate with readers of all ages, whether they are transgender or not.” In 2014, Jazz and author Jessica Herthel created a picture book for kids called I Am Jazz.
The new memoir’s title, with the word transgender in parentheses, reflects the tone of the TLC series as well – Jazz is a teenage girl who also happens to be trans. The memoir promises to reinforce Jazz and her family’s firm belief that being trans is a part of who she is, but not all of who she is. She is also a soccer player, artist, friend, daughter, sister, advocate, TV star, and author.
On June 1st, Jazz and her family took a stand with Target alongside GLAAD to support the retailer’s public support of transgender-inclusive policies that protect LGBT people in their stores. Check out other celebs, advocates, and organizations nationwide who took the pledge to #StandWithTarget and support LGBT acceptance too!
