Vice President Biden will be introducing Lady Gaga on tonight’s Oscars!  The Vice President, who was the main author of the 1994 Violence Against Women Act during his time in the Senate, will be onstage to discuss his work with the “It’s On Us” campaign, and the importance of all of us stepping up and taking a stand to end sexual violence on American campuses.  Following his remarks, Lady Gaga will perform her Oscar-nominated song, Till It Happens To You.  The singer co-wrote the song with Grammy Award-winning songwriter Diane Warren for the documentary film The Hunting Ground, an exposé of rape culture on campuses.

Chris Rock will host the 88th Annual Academy Awards ceremony, presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.   While not in the running for Best Picture, GLAAD Media Award nominees Carol and The Danish Girl received Academy acting nom nods for Cate Blanchett, Rooney Mara, Eddie Redmayne and Alicia Vikander.  Out screenwriters Emma Donoghue (Room) and Phyllis Nagy (Carol) are competing for Best Adapted Screenplay. Joining LGBT musician Lady Gaga this evening will be another Best Original Song out nominee, Sam Smith.  88^th Academy Awards:  Sunday, 5:30pm (Live) on ABC.

Musician Antony Hegarty, now known as Ahnoni, was also nominated in the Best Original Song category for Manta Ray, from the feature documentary Racing Extinction, becoming the second-ever transgender person to receive a nomination from the Academy; though at press time she explained her decision to boycott the Oscars, saying that she feels “degraded” by not being invited to perform.  “I imagined how it would feel for me to sit amongst all those Hollywood stars, some of the brave ones approaching me with sad faces and condolences. There I was, feeling a sting of shame that reminded me of America’s earliest affirmations of my inadequacy as a transperson. I turned around at the airport and went back home.”

GLAAD Director of Programs for Transgender Media, Nick Adams, states that “It’s imperative that the media fairly and accurately report on the discrimination faced by transgender people and the importance of laws which provide protections for them in housing, employment, and public spaces. ABC’s new comedy The Real O’Neals is a fresh take on a seemingly perfect family whose lives take an unexpected turn when surprising truths are revealed. Instead of ruining their family, the honesty triggers a new, messier chapter where everyone stops pretending to be perfect and actually starts being real.  The story is loosely based on Dan Savage’s upbringing, and it was important for the producer to tell the story authentically.  Openly gay Noah Galvin (lead character Kenny) said that “it was important to me that they have someone who is gay and is out and is willing to be a spokesman for it.”    The Real O’Neals also stars Martha Plimpton as Kenny’s mom Eileen.  Premeire airs Wednesday at 8:30pm on ABC

On CBS’s The Amazing Race, YouTube sensation Tyler Oakley and best bud Korey Kuhl are doing an awesome job so far, never coming in lower than 2^nd position.  Their chemistry and long friendship, dating back to Michigan State, leads to laughter and, yes, giggles.  As Tyler proclaims, they’re “just a couple of dudes being bros, just a couple of bros being jocks.”  The Amazing Race airs Friday at 8pm on CBS
