Today Carter Covington, the creator of MTV’s hit show Faking It, announced that season three will include a new character who happens to be transgender. Noah, played by out trans actor Elliot Fletcher, will join Amy, Karma, Shane, and Lauren at Hester High School. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Noah is described as someone who is “charismatic, confident and hip and is equal parts charming and vulnerable. He’s is the boy next door with a leather jacket and a rock ‘n’ roll attitude who plays guitar or bass for a band that competes in a battle of the bands contest.”

Elliot Fletcher was chosen for the role after MTV and the show’s creators launched a casting call for trans youth in November of last year. The online casting call was created to help identify a group of trans actors who could be cast in speaking and background roles for the show’s third season.

GLAAD worked closely with the show as they put out the casting call and developed the character of Noah. Previously GLAAD collaborated with the show, and with the intersex advocacy group interACT, when the show revealed that Lauren is intersex.

Although Noah doesn’t appear until episode four of this season, tune in from the very beginning so you can find out the latest on everyone at Hester High. Season 3 of Faking It returns Tuesday, March 15th at 10:30pm ET/PT on MTV.
