'Orange is the New Black,' Jeffrey Tambor, Viola Davis and more take home SAG Awards

Tonight the 22nd Annual Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards took place in Los Angeles with several LGBT characters and inclusive media taking home awards. The SAG Awards are notably the only show with winners selected solely by actors and their peers.

Jeffrey Tambor took home the award in Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series for his work on Amazon’s Transparent. He dedicated his award to the trans community, saying, “I play Maura Pfefferman – she’s very entitled and she has a lot of money. And I would just like to dedicate this award to the non-Maura Pfeffermans, who don’t have a lot of cash for their operations, for their medicine, for their freedom. Thank you very much.”

Netflix’s Orange is the New Black picked up the trophy in Outstanding Performance by and Ensemble in a Comedy series with star Uzo Aduba (Suzanne “Crazy Eyes” Warren) winning the award in Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series. Downton Abbey won the award in Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series. Viola Davis took home the award in Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series for her work as Annalise Keating on ABC’s How To Get Away with Murder. Queen Latifah picked up the award in Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries for her portrayal of bisexual blues singer Bessie Smith in HBO’s BessieGame of Thrones took home Outstanding Action Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Comedy or Drama Series.
