#Bestof2015: HRC Celebrates Another Landmark Evening for Equality at National Dinner

HRC celebrated an historic year for LGBT equality at the 19th annual HRC National Dinner.

More than 3,000 HRC members and supporters gathered at the Washington Convention Center to hear a variety of honorees, speakers and supporters.

Vice President Joe Biden delivered the keynote address, speaking about the importance of full federal LGBT equality and the issues facing the LGBT community at home and abroad. Biden has been a longtime supporter of LGBT equality and HRC.

Apple CEO Tim Cook received HRC’s Visibility Award. This past year, Cook has consistently lent his powerful voice to the fight for full LGBT equality by supporting pro-equality legislation. Apple endorsed the Houston Equal Rights Ordinance (HERO) and the Equality Act. As head of Apple, Cook also fought back an onslaught of state-level anti-LGBT legislation– most notably in the high-profile fights against notorious so-called “religious freedom” bills in Arkansas and Indiana.

Seven-time Emmy Award winner Allison Janney presented HRC’s National Vanguard Award to Academy Award nominated actress Ellen Page for her courage and leadership.  Page came out publicly at HRC’s Time to THRIVE conference in 2014 and has frequently discussed the positive impact coming out has had on her life.

Multi-platinum selling Grammy nominated singer and songwriter Carly Rae Jepsen, multi-platinum selling Grammy award-winning A Great Big World and Hip-Hop artist Futuristic performed. Retired NBA athlete Jason Collins and Blossom Brown also spoke.

We hope to celebrate another historic dinner in 2016 and thank our members and supporters for joining us.

Counting down to 2016, HRC is celebrating our greatest milestones and victories in 2015. It has been another incredible year for LGBT equality and we could not have done it without you — our members, readers and supporters–and we look forward to continuing our work in 2016. Stay tuned for more highlights from 2015.
