(NEW) Friends* Greeting Each Other

* Or Sisters Greeting Each Other or could even be cousins.

Castle Park, Bristol, South West of England, United Kingdom, on Saturday 9th of July 2022.

About those photograph.

This shot was taken at around 11am or thereabout, just when the Bristol Pride parade was almost due to start. It was taken somewhere between the Sally Port Steps and the Bandstand in the grounds of Castle Park.

The temperature at that time was already hot, and very sunny with little clouds.

People of all LGBT lifestyle, as well as their straight supporters were already gathered there, yet more were still coming. It presented a good opportunity to find more interesting subjects to take photos of, as the start of the parade was still minutes away.

This photo shows a couple of friends (of course, they could be sisters or cousins) meeting up, while behind them are another couple of people walking over to the main gathering area.

I was looking for any interesting subjects to take photos of, I noticed the young woman in the middle, waving with delight, as she spotted her friend coming over. I looked over and noticed the other woman, the one seen here with her arms up, coming over, also waving.

I figure they’re going to meet up, so I decided to frame my camera on the waiting friend, and waited for the arriving friend to come within view, and started shooting.

I looked at a few shots, and thought to pick this one, also figured to turn it into black and white for dramatic.

I took photojournalism kind of photos back in about between 1987-1989, and after that, didn’t do much of photojournalism for many years. This was the first time I got a chance to try to do photojournalism and documentary kind of photos. I felt really rusty, but tried my best to find interesting shots.

Hope it looks okay.

About the event.

Bristol Pride is an annual festival held over couple of weeks, promoting equality for the various LGBT+ people, with a march through the city at a weekend.

The Bristol Pride started life in 1977 as a fundraiser for the local LGBT community, and evolved into an annual event held every year. There was a gap of only some years between 1994 to 2010 when it was restarted.

The 2022 march started at Castle Park, near Castle Street. The route took them past Cabot Circus, and went around the major shopping area by using The Horsefair and Union Street, and as they went down Union Street, they headed towards Castle Park. When they reached Castle Park, they turned into Wine Street, went into High Street, and into Baldwin Street, headed towards the A38 which is Anchor Road. This route took them into Canon’s Road, and ended up near the Bristol Aquarium.

The march was said to take about an hour, but as a photographer whom would go back and forth, up and down the line, looking for good shots, it took me at least a couple of hours to complete the route.

After the march, those whom bought tickets, can attend an evening musical festival at The Downs, approximately to the north-west of city centre. I did not attend this event, and by the time I got back to my friend’s home, I was worn out from the heat.
