Zachary Quinto: Closeted Gay Actors Have Asked Me For Advice on Coming Out

Zachary Quinto graces the cover of Attitude Magazine‘s ‘Red Issue’ (commemorating World AIDS Day on December 1) and the out gay actor talks about the significance of HIV/AIDS awareness and how closeted gay actors have come to him for advice on coming out.

Quinto described to the British magazine what he tells closeted gay stars who seek him out:

“I just share my experience and say ‘This is how it went down for me, this is how I feel.’

“I tell them, ‘Trust that even if it means you’re not as famous, or even if it means it’s not exactly what you thought it would be, it’s still more valuable when you’re assessing your life at the end of that’”

As for World AIDS Day, Quinto says, “It’s still utterly essential…Not just in marking the advancement, progress and fight against the diseases, but also cultivating knowledge and awareness of it for people all over the world.”

In August, Quinto tried to clear up previous remarks he made about HIV/AIDS and PrEP that were widely viewed as slut-shaming:

“It was not my intention to judge anybody…to rankle anybody, or to put myself in some kind of superior position by any means…There was this thing that I was ‘slut-shaming.’ Anybody who knows me knows that that is the last thing I would ever do.”
