Five festive interiors trends to get you in the mood for Christmas
Today marks the date: in exactly three months’ time, Christmas Day will be upon us and houses around the globe will be full of festive cheer and the warmth that always seems to come with Christmas.
Long gone are the days when the colors of Christmas decorations were restricted to green, red and gold or silver – for years, the most wonderful time of the year has been at the heart of trends just as much as anything else.
Whether you’re on the hunt for the newest Christmas must-haves or love the more traditional look, we have collected the five biggest trends for Christmas 2015.
Still going strong: cooper has been on trend for the past two years – and it’ll be around a bit longer.
Copper accents
Bang on trend all year, it comes as no surprise that copper – especially the softer tones of blanched cooper – are set to be just as popular when it comes to Christmas decorations.
Combined with pine wreaths or the traditional color schemes, it’s an upgrade of the traditional designs without taking it too far.
Or take the Christmas extravaganza to a new level and choose a monochrome color scheme – adding warmth, copper also lifts black and white designs to a new level of low-key elegance.
Scandinavian Style
Decades after Swedish design first made its way onto the mass market, Scandinavian design is once again the cream of the crop with everyone setting out to get their own bit of Swedish comfort.
The winters are long and cold, and the nights can feel like they last forever, so Scandinavian design’s well-known no-frills principle, sets out to create a warm and comfortable atmosphere making you feel welcome and cozy.
Scandi-themed Christmas decorations pick up this principle: dominated by white and reds and using natural materials including wool and pale wood, they add all the little details needed to make a house into a home.
No snow? No problem! White is on trend and, with added glitter, can make up for a snowless Christmas – at least a little.
Glittering White
We can’t guarantee a white Christmas – at least not outside of your home and in the form of softly falling snow – but a timeless, white design can at least simulate what it would be like.
As snowy Christmases seem to become rarer every year, white decorations are growing increasingly popular, no matter if they’re plain white, with silver accents or (partially) covered in glitter.
And we see why: just imagine the effect the light will create, whether it’s from a main source or a fireplace – it’ll feel as if winter has come after all, even if the outside world is flooded with rain rather than being covered in a soft blanket of snow.
Into the woods
Similar to the Scandinavian trend, woodland-themed decorations are at the top of the must-have list for Christmas 2015!
With less wool than the Nordic-inspired trend, the focus is on natural materials, with most of the decorations wood-based; woodland creatures, especially owls and squirrels, also make frequent appearances.
Keeping the warm Christmas spirit are burnt orange tawny hues, as well as pale woods and even lush greens from conifers and other evergreen plants.
Keep it classic
Despite all the trends, one thing will never be out of fashion: just keeping it traditional.
Red and green, with gold or silver accents, create a festive atmosphere; tartan accessories contribute to a homey feeling and fabrics with lurex threads woven in add a bit of sparkle to your decorations.
But although it’s traditional doesn’t mean it has to be boring – mix it up with new fabrics, unusual prints or add a third color to truly make this Christmas yours.
