Miami Beach, Florida is a city located on an artificial barrier island located between the Atlantic Ocean and Biscayne Bay, to the east of Miami in Miami-Dade County. Home to roughly 80,000 residents, it forms one of the important economic hubs of the Great Miami metropolitan area.
Much of the southern portion of the city, comprising the South Beach area is a part of the Miami Beach Architectural District. That district was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979 and is famous for its Art Deco, Streamline Moderne, and Mediterranean Revival buildings.
