Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee has said US President Barack Obama inviting LGBTI Catholics to meet the Pope Francis is like setting up open bar at Alcoholics Anonymous.
The Wall Street Journal reported that the Vatican had ‘taken offense’ to some of the guests who attended the pope’s welcome ceremony at the White House, which included transgender activists and the first openly gay Episcopal bishop.

‘Obama shows total disrespect to millions of Americans by transforming Pope Francis’ White House visit into a politicized cattle call for gay and pro-abortion activists,’ Huckabee wrote in a op-ed for the Daily Caller.
‘The Catholic Church is also pro-marriage. When the issue emerged in his native Argentina, Pope Francis blasted same-sex marriage as a “destructive pretension against the plan of God.”‘
Huckabee reiterated comments he made in a Fox News interview News on ( September) that inviting LGBTI people to the meet the pope was like setting setting up an open bar at an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting.
‘Welcoming a pro-life, pro-marriage leader at the White House with a crowd of abortion and gay rights activists is as classy as hosting an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting with an open bar,’ he said.
‘President Obama should be ashamed of himself.’
Huckabee added: ‘It’s all petty, partisan politics. Exploiting the Pope for cheap political points at the expense of millions of Americans and Catholics around the world is a shameless new low for this Administration. This classless stunt is disrespectful and disgraceful.’
