24. The Captain and The Engineer: The Kicked Dog (Part 2)

“HEY, YOU PATHETIC SHIT! GET OFF OF HIM!”
Having not expected an interruption at all since Thorn had retired for the night, Micah was just as shocked at Vincent! Who the fuck was this?! How did he find them?! Surely they couldn’t really be heard over the river!
Aiden continued, his disgust evident with every word spoken. “What, you can only get the upper hand against someone when they’re injured? From what I can see, you wouldn’t be able to face a man like Vincent in a fair fight! You are weak and pathetic!”
Startled and not expecting to see a familiar face and ally here of all places, Vincent’s eyes widened at the sight of Aiden! At first, Vincent felt relief surge through him. Thankfully someone was here! But then he realized that Aiden was…actually here. Aiden was here? HOW?! All of a sudden fear began to fill Vincent! It wasn’t for himself…but for Aiden. Vincent knew he could normally handle Micah on his own but Aiden? Truth be told Vincent didn’t know Aiden’s fighting style. Did Aiden even know how to fight?! One thing for sure was that the usual friendly demeanor Vincent was used to seeing in Aiden was nowhere in sight.
“Pathetic? You think ‘I’ am pathetic?!”
Micah’s eyes were wide as the intruder’s insult began to sink in. He wasn’t pathetic! He couldn’t be pathetic! He REFUSED! He had strived so hard to make things right! Thorn was finally starting to trust in him again! Everything was going JUST fine until today!
“And weak!” Aiden reminded him coldly as he shifted his wrench onto his shoulder. His brow quirked as a dissatisfied frown settled upon his face. At his feet, Pete stepped around Aiden’s legs as the man shifted his weight and readied himself for whatever was to come.
Weak? No. No. NO! He’d show him! He’d show him how ‘weak’ he was when he bashed the man’s fucking skull against the stone wall! Micah was suddenly going into a rage as he leapt from Vincent, causing the badly injured man beneath him to grunt from the painful release!
With a sudden burst of adrenaline, Vincent managed to push and flip himself over onto his belly! Ignoring the burning, piercing pain in his ribs, he managed to shout hoarsely, “Aiden! RUN! Just…GO!” WHY WANSN’T HE RUNNING?!
Micah slammed his hands against the railing as he got right up against the bars, gripping them tight as his knuckles turned white. He pressed his face viscously against the bars as he got in Aiden’s face like an angry dog! His lips curled as he snarled, “Weak…PATHETIC?! I’ll show you-!”
“Show me what?! You’re just a snarled, kicked dog, biting at anything because you are WEAK AND PATHETIC!” Aiden shouted at him, aiming to infuriate the man further! He began to shift the heavy wrench from his shoulder to his other hand. He shifted his weight as if readying himself for a fight, his eyes never leaving Micah’s. A moment later, he wondered aloud to Micah, “I wonder if Thorn’s going to have to come to your rescue this time too…”
The sound of Aiden’s voice was drowned out by the loud clanging of keys as Micah forced the key into the lock to let himself out. Immediately, the loud groaning sound of grinding metal filled the air as the door was wrenched open by the infuriated Micah!
As Micah launched himself from the open cell like a wild, angry beast, Aiden leaned back slightly, swinging the heavy wrench back. His left hand came up and as Micah came at him like a charging bull, Aiden let out an enraged scream as he clenched the wrench with both hands, swinging hard with all his might!
