The Summoner

Gene Townley, 31, inherited from a distant uncle he met only once before in his life, a small castle in Scotland, it’s a lonely and secluded place, miles from anything resembling civilization, but as he is a bit of a shut in anyway, with little in the way of social graces and no real friend’s to speak of, he felt he lucked out. with nothing keeping him in the states, he left his tiny apartment behind in favor of an old, drafty but significantly larger home in the form of a still livable medieval castle. the first several days were spent just exploring it’s long stone corridors and passages, from the cozy bed-chambers, to the massive fully equipt medieval kitchen, from the armory to the treasure room, still stocked with priceless vases, gilded swords and statues forged from various precious metals. to the massive library, stocked with books older than him, some even older than the castle it’s self perhaps, and it is there Gene discovered a tomb that piqued his curiosity.
The tomb was entitled “a summoner’s guide to lustful invocations.” he flipped though the pages seeing depictions and descriptions of various humanoid creatures, but one in particular caught his eye, a drawing of a male creature, slim of body and feminine of face, the passages reads “the domesticated incubus is a lustful being, with all the desires of it’s wild kin but none of it’s lethality, this tame creature is an ideal companion for the lovely wizard.” while he didn’t actually believe in magic, he was bored and certainly lonely, so he saw no harm in making the attempt, at worse he would just have looked silly to no one at all, since he lived there in the castle by himself. following the directions in the book he drew the summoning circle on the floor, places the gathered ingredients on the sigil as directed, he did find it strange that all the components needed here just sitting there in the cupboard by the door in clearly labeled jars and bottles, but to put that aside of later contemplation.
He read the incantations aloud in a commanding and confident voice as if preforming to an invisible audience. upon finishing the finals lines of the spell he pricks his finger with a needles adding the final ingredient, “a drop of the casters life blood to bind the fiend to thine own will.” much his his surprise the drop of blood began giving off a crimson smoke as he splashed on the floor, and from the smoke a feminine silhouette took shape, coalescing into a solid body, and kneeling before him was a young man, with horns on his head, wings on his back and a tail!
the beautiful devil turned his gaze upward meeting Gene’s eyes he spoke in a soft androgynous voice. “Greetings master….do i….have a name?” he asked of Gene., shaking the shock from his mind he answered.”A…. a name? do you not already have one?” he asked the Incubus. “No.” he replied shaking his horned head. “My kind are only granted names once we are bound to a master, as you are my master, you get to pick my name.” he says with an eager smile and anticipation in his red eyes the color of burning coals.” oh… right that makes sense a suppose, like when you get a pet.” Gene says to himself before clearing his throat and speaking in the same authoritative voice he used to read the incantations.”Very well, from this day on you will be known as….” he pauses, nearly blushes as he looks into the horned man’s eyes.
“Ember! yes, your name is Ember now!” the beautiful demon beams, a gleeful smiles on his face and he stands. “Ember?!? it’s a wonderful name! thanks you master!” he wraps his arms around his new master hugging him lovingly. “how may i thank you for inviting me into your life like this master?” he asked with a knowing glint in his eye. “oh…i can think of a few ways” Gene replied before pressing his lips to Ember’s. the lonely chapter Gene’s life has come to an end, as this summoning was permanent, and now this drafty castle has become a happy home.
