‘Life At 6mg’

This photograph is of the daily dosage of Estrogen i take, surrounded by pink sparkles i have to make my nails pretty. 🙂
The most important thing for many of us transgender folks is when we begin hormone treatment. I can’t quite describe how that feels but it’s sort of like a 2nd birthday in a way. It’s the day we began a major step in our journey and a special moment in life for us.
I was able to finally begin this aspect of my transition in January of 2017, a few months after finally getting off the streets and being able to obtain medical care and focus on this. Before then, i was shelters where things were difficult and life was uncertain in many ways.
When i first began i was prescribed transdermal patches which are changed weekly (Seen in another recent image of mine here along with my Transgender PRIDE t-shirt). Due to insurance and availability of those patches being an ongoing issue, i was switched to oral Estrogen.
These three small pills mean the world to me. I take one and one half of them in the morning when i wake up, and the 2nd dose before i go to sleep at night. They are taken under my tongue and they dissolve which works better than swallowing them. (Known as ‘sublingual’)
There is another medication i take for this hormone treatment not depicted in this photo, something that blocks testosterone (Spironolactone) and combined they have made a huge difference in my life. Now i am happy, i feel far more comfortable in my own skin with the changes these medications have caused and i’m thankful to finally be where i am at in life.
I’m not a fan of needles at all (Unless they are tattoo needles) but some transgender people take hormone shots which is also common.
