31 U.S Municipalities Trumpeting LGBT Equality
In this year’s Municipal Equality Index (MEI), 31 municipalities across the country earned a hat-tip for their high scores in states without supportive LGBT laws.
These cities are proving that they can ensure equality even in states that are lagging behind in enacting LGBT-inclusive laws and policies. New top-scoring cities this year include Louisville, Kentucky; Detroit, Michigan; and Bloomington, Indiana.
Cities that score above 85 without relying on good state law (non-discrimination) make the cut for MEI All-Stars
The 2015 MEI – which rated a total of 408 cities from every state in the nation — examines the laws, policies, and services of municipalities and rates them on the basis of their inclusivity of LGBT people who live and work there.
