Originally built in the 1820s, this property was expanded and remodeled over the centuries. In the late 19th century, it was converted into its present Second Empire and Italianate appearance by Prentiss Dana Cheney. Clayton Brown and his husband Richard McCauley obtained the house in the 1990s, and gifted it to the Jersey County Historical Society.
Jerseyville, Illinois serves as the seat of Jersey County, which is located just north of Saint Louis. Distinctively, the community is not directly connected to the city by a major freeway. Jerseyville is a charming town.
