Castle Park, Bristol, South West of England, United Kingdom, on Saturday 9th of July 2022.

About those photographs.

Earlier in my Photostream (approximately a dozen images before this photo), I displayed three (out of the many) shots showing the start of Bristol Pride, they are titled as The Build Up. Those photos were taken at around 10am or thereabouts, and shows people arriving.

The temperature at that time was already very warm, and I was already sweating a little, so about 15 to 30 minutes after taking the earlier photos, I decided to go back to the car, and leave the camera bag behind. Better just put the extra memory cards and spare batteries in my pockets, plus bring bottled water, and I head back to Castle Park.

One good thing about digital cameras is that you can have a single memory card in your DSLR, that can capture thousands of photos. In the old days of using 35mm films, I would need more than at least 30 rolls in a camera bag, just to cover this event.

When I got back, the above photos were taken at about 11am or thereabouts, and there were taken somewhere around a bandstand very close to Vaulted Chambers Café, just next to Castle Street.

By that time, the crowd were growing bigger and bigger, likely to be covering half of the whole area. Most likely to be between St Peters Church, as seen in my earlier photos, to this bandstand which according to Google Maps, is approximately at least between 150 to 200 metres.

At this stage, the crowd were getting ready to start the Pride March. Most likely those ahead have already started the march and are leaving the park, and started heading down Castle Park, so those people in the photograph will follow in a while.

About the event.

Bristol Pride is an annual festival held over couple of weeks, promoting equality for the various LGBT+ people, with a march through the city at a weekend.

The Bristol Pride started life in 1977 as a fundraiser for the local LGBT community, and evolved into an annual event held every year. There was a gap of only some years between 1994 to 2010 when it was restarted.

The 2022 march started at Castle Park, near Castle Street. The route took them past Cabot Circus, and went around the major shopping area by using The Horsefair and Union Street, and as they went down Union Street, they headed towards Castle Park. When they reached Castle Park, they turned into Wine Street, went into High Street, and into Baldwin Street, headed towards the A38 which is Anchor Road. This route took them into Canon’s Road, and ended up near the Bristol Aquarium.

The march was said to take about an hour, but as a photographer whom would go back and forth, up and down the line, looking for good shots, it took me at least a couple of hours to complete the route.

After the march, those whom bought tickets, can attend an evening musical festival at The Downs, approximately to the north-west of city centre. I did not attend this event, and by the time I got back to my friend’s home, I was worn out from the heat.
