Off to the W.I. for Tea & Scones

Ruby knickers, pearly tights,
Golden bangles, golden hair,
Bedecked, bejewelled now I share
My inner secrets with the mirror.

And saucily adjust
The saggy outline of my bust.

At last, full length before the glass
I thoroughly inspect myself… I pass.
And, leading off with padded bra,
I waddle out towards the car.

I drive along, irresolute,
Towards the Women’s Institute
And there between the cups of tea
We talk of sex equality..
And how the latest clothes express
A girl’s desire for unisex.

I think my smile of irony.
Should symbolize our unity.
