Trump Falsely Claims Truckers Are Honking In Support of Him During WH Briefing: WATCH

During a briefing in the White House Rose Garden on Friday, President Donald Trump acknowledged honking truckers in the background.

“Those are truckers that are with us all the way. They’re protesting in favor of President Trump, as opposed to against, and that’s a sign of love, not the sign of your typical protest, so I want to thank our great truckers. They like me, and I like them. We’re working on something together,” Trump said.

In fact, the truckers were protesting low freight rates.

From the Washington Post: Just two weeks ago, President Trump had personally extended his gratitude to truckers, welcoming representatives of the industry to the White House and calling truckers “the foot soldiers” in the war against the novel coronavirus. But now, “the American truck driver needs help, and we need it now,” said [Rick] Santiago, a 21-year veteran of the industryfrom New Jersey. “This is our distress call to our commander in chief to address the problems we are facing. He has called us heroes — his heroes need his help now.” … The trucking industry did not get a targeted financial support package from Congress during the last round of stimulus negotiations, and the organization representing independent truckers such as Santiago says they’ve had only limited success with the troubled Paycheck Protection Program run by the Small Business Administration.

As protesting truckers continue to blast horns in the background, Trump says, “They’re protesting *in favor* of president Trump, as opposed to against…that’s the sign of love.” It’s not a pro-Trump (or anti-Trump) protest. They want a meeting with Trump on their complaints.

About the honking & horns we all hear in the back as President Trump takes questions at the White House. t.co/dfErTzH4Z2

— Yamiche Alcindor (@Yamiche) May 15, 2020

The incessant honking audible in the Rose Garden is somehow both comical & eerie, like the facade of officialdom is about to break. Everyone is having to speak with raised voices, even at the mic. Trump misleadingly says the honking is in support of him: t.co/PaFCAxVEd2

— Dan Zak (@MrDanZak) May 15, 2020

As Trump speaks in the Rose Garden right now an endless line of trucks is making its way through DC.

Trump claims they’re honking because they “love” him but in fact they’re protesting that their industry hasn’t been given enough federal help.

The truckers outside the White House aren’t there supporting Trump.

They’re begging him for help supporting their small businesses and investigating price gouging. #TrumpHasNoPlan t.co/JCCwAuSVca

Very bad news for Only Fans star Jacob Wohl, who falsely accused Pete Buttigieg of sexual assault

Very bad news for Only Fans star Jacob Wohl, who falsely accused Pete Buttigieg of sexual assault

Karma is definitely calling for right-wing-troll-turned-Only-Fans-star Jacob Wohl.

You may or may not recall that in April 2019, Wohl wrote a Medium article under the pen name “Hunter Kelly” in which he accused Pete Buttigieg of sexual assault. The article was quickly removed after being proven totally 100% false.

Related: Sexual assault allegations against Pete Buttigieg revealed to be amateurish political hit-job

But that was just the beginning. In the following months, Wohl also attempted to smear Robert Mueller, Kamala Harris, Elizabeth Warren, and, most recently, Anthony Fauci with fake sex scandals.

On top of that, he fabricated his own death threats and was permanently banned from Twitter for creating too many fake accounts, which he used to peddle right-wing conspiracy theories.

But prior to all that, the 22-year-old worked as an investment manager and was moderately successful, especially for someone his age. Until 2017, that is, when it all came crashing down.

Wohl was charged with 14 counts of securities fraud after being accused of scamming several clients. He was ordered by the commission to pay $32,919 in restitution, plus $5,000 in penalties. That number has since increased to $43,000 because of interest.

So far, Wohl hasn’t paid a dime of it. And now, the Attorney General’s Office of Arizona says it is ramping up its efforts to collect from him.

“The Commission, through the Arizona Attorney General’s Office, is actively pursuing collection efforts against Mr. Wohl,” a spokesperson tells Salon. “Mr. Wohl has not paid anything since the matter was sent to the Attorney General’s Office for collections.”

The Commission says it plans to take whatever action in necessary against Wohl “if he violates any part of the order or if he commits additional actions that violate the Arizona Securities Act or the Investment Management Act.”

Wohl has not issued any comment on the matter; however, he did launch an Only Fans page last month, presumably to cover some of his legal expenses. Unfortunately, people have not been terribly impressed with its content.

Where are they now: Jacob Wohl

Jacob Wohl is selling shirtless pics of himself for $50 on OnlyFans right now and promoting a giveaway of this signed picture

Looks like he may want to explore other ways of raising that $43,000 he owes.

Human Rights Campaign Announces Support for the Heroes Act

Human Rights Campaign Announces Support for the Heroes Act

Today, the Human Rights Campaign announced its support of the Heroes Act, legislation in the U.S. Congress investing $3 trillion towards essential needs during the COVID-19 pandemic, including $3.6 billion for voting assistance and a sexual orientation and gender identity inclusive non-discrimination provision.

“Our nation is in crisis, and Speaker Pelosi has stepped up to lead,” said HRC President Alphonso David. “This package ensures that our nation has the tools and resources it needs to respond to the epidemic, boost the economy, protect LGBTQ people from discrimination and ensure everyone has the opportunity to safely exercise their constitutional right to vote. Voters should not have to choose between their health and their liberty. Provisions in the Heroes Act not only expand safe voting options but also aim to reduce voter suppression, which disproportionately impacts voters of color and transgender voters. The Human Rights Campaign supports the Heroes Act and is activating our 3.3 million members to urge passage.”

“The health and safety of voters is a top priority during the current public health emergency, and we must make sure the pandemic does not impede full, unfettered access to the ballot box,” said Rep. Marcia Fudge, Chair of the Subcommittee on Elections in the House Administration Committee. “Communities with a history of voter suppression, specifically communities of color, must have safe, accessible options and sufficient time to cast their ballots without unnecessary confusion and potential voter disenchantment. Congress has the responsibility to ensure every American can exercise their right to vote. I am proud to support the Heroes Act, and any legislation preventing and removing barriers to the ballot box; barriers that have plagued our democracy for far too long.”

The Heroes Act, in addition to providing funding for COVID response, will give critical resources to state and local governments to ensure voters can safely participate in future elections. These resources will expand early voting, absentee voting and voter registration options as well as make in-person polling places more accessible. These critical efforts are essential to ensuring the safety of every voter during the COVID-19 pandemic. The legislation:

  • Requires federal election contingency plans in response to natural disasters and emergencies.
  • Requires at least 15 consecutive days of early voting for federal elections.
  • Requires the early voting period to be no less than 10 hours each day, to have uniform hours for each day, and to allow for voting prior to 9:00 a.m. and after 5:00 p.m.
  • Requires polling places with early voting periods to be located within walking distance of a stop on a public transportation route and to be available in rural areas of states.
  • Ensures that every voter can access no excuse absentee vote by mail.
  • Permits the use of a sworn written statement to meet identification requirements.
  • Amends the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 to improve voter registration.
  • Requires states to establish technological security measures to protect information provided through online voter registration services.
  • Ensures that online voter registrations services are available to individuals with disabilities and also available through the use of an automated telephone based system.
  • Permits an Indian Tribe to designate buildings as ballot pickup and collection locations and to designate one building per precinct located within Indian lands at no cost to the Indian Tribe.

The bill contains an important non-discrimination provision that would ensure that funds in the bill do not allow for discrimination including against LGBTQ people. In addition, it contains the bipartisan Jabara-Heyer NO HATE Act to improve hate crimes data collection.
