Homophobic lawmaker shuts down homophobic constituent for being too homophobic

Homophobic lawmaker shuts down homophobic constituent for being too homophobic

Here’s something you don’t see everyday.

At a public testimony hearing in Florida last week, a man was so homophobic that another homophobe had to tell him to leave the room.

Greg Pound was speaking before the Florida House Appropriations Committee about a school voucher program that offers scholarships to students who want to attend Christian schools that promote antigay values.

“Just a real quick question on the alphabet there,” Pound said. “The L is for lesbians, the G is for gay, B is for bisexual, T is for transgender, Q is queer, and then P would be pedophile. Now, let me ask you this … where do these people get their children?”

That’s when the committee chair, Republican Rep. Travis Cummings, responded, “Your testimony is ended.”

When Pound asked why, Cummings replied, “On what grounds? What’s come right out of your mouth. It’s offensive.” Then he ordered the sergeant at arms to remove Pound.

Florida man Greg Pound at yesterday’s House Appropriations Committee meeting says LGBTQ stands for “lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and P for pedophile” #BecauseFlorida (shout-out to Chair @Travis_Cummings for shutting him TF down) pic.twitter.com/YYh0YIixza

— Billy Corben (@BillyCorben) February 26, 2020

Ironically, Cummings himself is a major Trump supporter and embraces the Republican party’s anti-LGTBQ platform. Also, in 2015 he voted against a bill that would have made it legal for same-sex couples to adopt children.

Meanwhile, Pound has a reputation for saying inflammatory things at state legislative proceedings, often denigrating LGBTQ people and pedaling outrageous conspiracy theories.

Many have praised Cummings for shutting down Pound’s homophobic tirade.

A member of the public just told our House Appropriations Committee LGBTQ stands for “lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and P for pedophile.” Thank you Chair @Travis_Cummings putting a stop to this bigoted rant. Homophobia is alive and well in Florida.

— Rep. Carlos G Smith (@CarlosGSmith) February 25, 2020

Budget Chairman Travis Cummings tells Greg Pound to end his testimony in committee after Pound refers to LGBTQ as “Lesbian, Gay, Transgender, Queer, and Pedophile”– thank you Chair Cummings for calling out this offensive language that has no place in the Florida Legislature.

— Rep. Anna V. Eskamani ? (@AnnaForFlorida) February 25, 2020

Now that’s MY budget chair ??????@Travis_Cummings t.co/iG291v6q59

— Amber Mariano (@ambermariano) February 28, 2020

Now if only we could get him to stop advocating for policies that harm LGBTQ people.

Patrons at a Washington DC restaurant shrieked in horror at a heart-stopping moment during last Sunday’s regular Drag Brunch. The incident was caught on video and then reshared by Twitter user @ReggieRiich. It has since gone viral and been viewed over 600,000 times.

It all took place the RedRocks H Street bistro in DC. In the clip, brunch host Geneva Confection can be seen climbing and lying down on a balcony banister between the second and first floors. She then slips and can be seen falling away from the balcony – prompting gasps and shrieks from those watching.

Thankfully, as a second clip reveals, she managed to grab the banister and saved herself from plummeting to the floor below. The same Twitter user posted the follow-up video showing Ms. Confection climbing back over the balcony banister.

Thank God she’s OK everyone! Spoke to her & she’s getting ready for an encore next week! 😁@GenevaConfecti1 pic.twitter.com/7XN5bSHibW

Queerty reached out to Geneva Confection, who has been hosting the drag brunch at the venue for the past year, to check she was OK.

“I’d be lying if I said I haven’t jumped on the banister before,” she said. “It’s a trick that generally freaks people out and I’ve been able to control before but yesterday things didn’t go as planned.”

She said she would think twice about doing it in the future: “I absolutely will reconsider getting up on a banister again. Honestly, after this last time, it’s really not worth it. Mostly I hope that nobody else takes that risk, I realized it was incredibly stupid but then who doesn’t do something stupid every once in a while?”

“everybody freeze! Who wants to be famous? Who wants to DIE for art?” I need to look at my life, look at my options, stop. Lol t.co/doi4qXSpvO

Woman Who Catfished Gay Couple on Grindr, Collected Intimate Photos, Then Sabotaged Their Lives, Gets 13 Months in Prison

Woman Who Catfished Gay Couple on Grindr, Collected Intimate Photos, Then Sabotaged Their Lives, Gets 13 Months in Prison

A woman has been sent to prison for 13 months after catfishing a British gay man and his boyfriend on Grindr, collecting intimate and sexual photos, stalking them, and sabotaging their lives with threats and rumors.

Yannick Glaudin attempted to evade the police by fleeing to her native France. She was finally apprehended after police put out CCTV images and extradited on a European arrest warrant.

The Guardian reports: “John McNamara, prosecuting, told the court that in May 2017, Glaudin, using the pseudonym Steven St Pier, met her first male victim via Grindr. The pair exchanged phone numbers, email addresses and even the victim’s CV as he was job hunting. ‘During the period of contact, the victim sent to the defendant a number of intimate and personal pictures and videos,’ McNamara said. But the victim had doubts over Glaudin’s true identity and ended their online-only contact in December 2017. This triggered months of harassment, beginning with the defendant sending the sexual images to his stepfather, friends and friends of friends.”

When Glaudin’s target began dating another man, she went after him as well, contacting the boyfriend’s friends using pseudonyms and spreading lies using Instagram and Facebook, The Guardian adds: “In March 2018, a false report was made to Crimestoppers claiming the boyfriend had been abusing a young boy and was linked to a known prostitute, McNamara said. On another date, a fake report was made to police pretending to be from a victim’s boss, ‘stating that he had seen videos of underage sex on a laptop’, the prosecutor said. Other messages suggested there was ‘a price’ of €1,000 on the boyfriend’s head in Barcelona and London. Photos of the first victim using the London underground were also emailed to him.”

Said the now former boyfriend to the court: “I suffered the extreme shock of constant, insidious daily harassment at home, work and on every online channel I was registered on, by someone completely anonymous, using multiple aliases. The perpetrator has accused me personally of being a paedophile, impersonated me and my partner online via dating applications, sent multiple strangers to my home demanding anonymous sex, followed me … home, and taken photographs of our front door and taunted us about it.”

Said the judge to Glaudin, who was also given a lifetime restraining order: “It’s difficult to understand why you did what you did, other than that during the period of your offending you were consumed by jealousy and a desire for revenge.”

One of the highlights of my life has been the opportunity to sing on the set of @sesamestreet with my new pal, Penelope the penguin. Together, we sang about the possibilities of new friendships with those who may not be exactly like us. I know people are all up in arms about me wearing the gorgeous custom @csiriano tuxedo dress that I wore at @theacademy awards in 2019 for the upcoming season. If you follow me, however, you know the impact it had. The emails, DMs, and messages of good will I received that day (and continue to receive) from parents and their children who have been bullied all over the world and desperately need to see someone like me, being their authentic selves on mainstream media, is far more important than anything #onemillionmoms could ever say.
