Dr. Anthony Fauci: U.S. Will See ‘Millions of Cases’ of Coronavirus and Between 100,000 and 200,000 Deaths — WATCH

Appearing on CNN’s State of the Union Sunday, Dr. Anthony Fauci, the head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and part of Trump’s coronavirus task force, said “Looking at what we’re seeing now, I would say between 100,000 and 200,000 cases… excuse me, deaths. But I don’t want to be held to that. I mean, we’re going to have millions of cases.”

Fauci has become a target of the far right, the New York Times reports: “An analysis by The New York Times found over 70 accounts on Twitter that have promoted the hashtag #FauciFraud, with some tweeting as frequently as 795 times a day. The anti-Fauci sentiment is being reinforced by posts from Tom Fitton, the president of Judicial Watch, a conservative group; Bill Mitchell, host of the far-right online talk show “YourVoice America”; and other outspoken Trump supporters such as Shiva Ayyadurai, who has falsely claimed to be the inventor of email. Many of the anti-Fauci posts, some of which pointed to a seven-year-old email that Dr. Fauci had sent praising Hillary Clinton when she was secretary of State, have been retweeted thousands of times. On YouTube, conspiracy-theory videos about Dr. Fauci have racked up hundreds of thousands of views in the past week. In private Facebook groups, posts disparaging him have also been shared hundreds of times and liked by thousands of people, according to the Times analysis.”

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi condemned Donald Trump’s response to COVID-19 in an appearance on CNN’s State of the Union Sunday.

Said Pelosi: “First let me say how sad it is that ever since the president’s signing of the [stimulus] bill, the number of deaths reported has doubled from 1,000 to 2,000 in our country. This is such a very, very sad time for us. So we should be taking every precaution. The president — his denial at the beginning was deadly. His delaying of getting equipment to where it — his continued delay in getting equipment to where it’s needed is deadly. And now I think the best thing to do would be to prevent more loss of life.

“We have to have be testing, testing, testing,” Pelosi continued. “That’s what we said from the start, before we can evaluate what the nature of it is in some of these other regions as well. … I don’t know what the purpose of that is, I don’t know what the scientists are saying to him. I don’t know what the scientists said to him. When did this president know about this, and what did he know? What did he know and when did he know it? That’s for an after-action review. But as the president fiddles, people are dying and we just have to take every precaution.”

‘Catastrophic Mistake’: Trump Rejected Emergency Coronavirus Funding Offer on February 5

Trump administration officials rejected an offer of emergency coronavirus funding from Congress on February 5 in a meeting with senators including Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT).

Yahoo News reports: “The officials, including Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar, said they ‘didn’t need emergency funding, that they would be able to handle it within existing appropriations,’ Murphy recalled in an interview with Yahoo News’ ‘Skullduggery’ podcast. ‘What an awful, horrible catastrophic mistake that was,’ Murphy said. “

Murphy tweeted about the meeting that same day: “Just left the Administration briefing on Coronavirus. Bottom line: they aren’t taking this seriously enough. Notably, no request for ANY emergency funding, which is a big mistake. Local health systems need supplies, training, screening staff etc. And they need it now.”
