Madonna posts cryptic message on social media following yet another concert cancellation

Madonna (@madonna | Instagram)

After canceling multiple shows during the U.S. leg of her Madame X World Tour, Madonna has moved on to Europe, where she has been canceling shows there as well.

After scrapping two of six performances in Lisbon, Portugal, the singer announced over the weekend that she was canceling her opening night show in London, which had been scheduled for later today, as well.

“I am deeply sorry that I have to cancel my concert scheduled for Monday January 27th in London,” Madonna wrote in an Instagram post published on Saturday.

“Under doctors guidance I have been told to rest for a few days. As you all know, I have injuries that have plagued me since the beginning of the tour but I must always listen to my body and put my health first. The last thing I want to do is disappoint my fans or compromise the integrity of my show.”

Then she vowed, “I will keep going until I cannot.”

I am deeply sorry that I have to cancel my concert scheduled for Monday January 27th in London. Under doctors guidance I have been told to rest for a few days. As you all know, I have injuries that have plagued me since the beginning of the tour but I must always listen to my body and put my health first. The last thing I want to do is disappoint my fans or compromise the integrity of my show. So I will keep going until I cannot. As always- anyone who purchased a ticket will be refunded for tickets purchased that evening. The show on Wednesday January 29th will go as scheduled. Again I am deeply sorry to disappoint anyone and please know that it hurts me more than you can imagine to have to cancel any shows. Thank you again for your understanding. ??.

Throughout this tour, Madonna has complained of “overwhelming” and “indescribable” pain due to a knee injury suffered during rehearsals. As a result, multiple shows had to be scrapped in New York, Los Angeles, Boston, Miami, Lisbon, and now London.

But one very observant fan who had tickets to tonight’s now-canceled performance raised suspicion a week ago.

Prior to Madonna announcing the performance being canceled, John Suddes noticed that the venue hosting the concert tweeted about the show and then deleted the tweet several days earlier.

Why did @LondonPalladium take down this tweet? Do they know something we don’t?@Madonna if you’re gonna call it off do it now please so I can forget about childcare and cancel travel plans,” he wrote on January 22, three days before it was officially announced the show would not go on.

Fans on Twitter have had mixed reactions to the singer’s frequent cancellations.

Many just want her to get better…

Dear Madonna, we all know you’re a perfectionist and a big professional and that you don’t like giving up but PLEASE, for once be a human being not a music legend and REST.

I seriously think you should cancel the #MadameXTour, your real fans will understand! ❤

It’s heartbreaking to see Madonna walk with a cane! As much as I would love to see her 18 days time my heart tells me she needs to cancel the rest of the tour and look after her health! Xx pic.twitter.com/zTJO4A9dug

we love you and wish you a speedy recovery and we completely understand 💓💓

Not like she reads any of these but anyway…. I do wish the rest were cancelled or rescheduled until have had whatever the issue causing her pain is treated properly. Doing a show then cancelling a show resting for one day is clearly not improving anything!

Others seem to have reached their limits…

Cancel the whole thing already… why keep messing with people’s time and money. So selfish of you…

— mauricio (@retromaury) January 25, 2020

@Madonna Not fit for Monday in London but Wednesday you’ll be right as rain again! 🙄 Either sit on a stool and sing or cancel the whole thing and rearrange for the sake of your fans and yourself!

— Soozie (@soozie0708) January 25, 2020

This is really annoying. I get when an artist is poorly but it’s like the lottery waiting to see if a @Madonna show is still on. Let’s hope the next show we have tickets for isn’t cancelled. Not great for her fans who have booked flights and hotels. After 30+ years I’m fed up pic.twitter.com/hhK8ooAg5D

— Paul McCaffrey (@PaulMacca1976) January 26, 2020

If Madonna can’t deliver the shows she needs to cancel the #MadameXTour completely. People pay a lot more than just the concert tickets and are losing shit tons of money

— Connor (@ConnorBriggs) January 19, 2020

In addition letting down fans by showing up late or entirely canceling performances, Madonna was purportedly met with loud boos from audiences and had to issue 500 refunds in Vegas. And she’s currently being sued by a fan for pushing the start time for her December 17 show in Miami from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m., impacting the resale value of his tickets.

Here’s hoping she makes a full recovery soon!
