ABC told ‘Batman’ actor Burt Ward to take pills to “shrink” his bulge

ABC told ‘Batman’ actor Burt Ward to take pills to “shrink” his bulge

Holy shrinkage, Batman! There’s method acting, and then there’s… whatever this is.

Burt Ward, who played Robin in the camptastic Batman series which ran on ABC from 1966-1968, has waited over five decades to reveal just how far he was asked to go for the part.

The famously-tight fitting costumes were apparently too tight in the lower regions, so much so that the Catholic League of Decency filed a complaint with ABC.

And rather than take the costume out, the studio took Ward in.

“They thought that Robin had a very large bulge for television,” Ward told Page Six.

“With Adam they put Turkish towels in his undershorts,” he added, before explaining that he was sent to a doctor who prescribed pills “to shrink me up.”

Ward nixed the plan almost immediately.

“I took them for three days and then I decided that they can probably keep me from having children,” he said. “I stopped doing that and I just used my cape to cover it.”

That sounds like an excellent call.

Last week, Ward unveiled a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame which he called an “amazing experience.”

Here’s Ward’s 1965 audition for Robin:

Israeli Education Minister Asked About Gay Kids: ‘Thank God, My Children Grew Up in a Natural and Healthy Way’

Israeli Education Minister Asked About Gay Kids: ‘Thank God, My Children Grew Up in a Natural and Healthy Way’

Israel Education Minister Rafi Peretz, who last year endorsed gay conversion therapy, was asked by a top Israeli newspaper how he would react if one of his kids turned out to be gay.

Said Peretz: “Thank God, my children grew up in a natural and healthy way. They are building their homes on the basis of Jewish values. I don’t bother my head with ‘what if’ thinking.”

The remarks sparked impromptu tolerance classes, the New York Times reports, and a rebuke from Justice Minister Amir Ohana, an out member of Netanyahu’s Likud party who has children with a same-sex partner.

The Oscar noms are in and so is the hashtag #OscarsSoStraight. Here’s what people are saying…

The Oscar nominations are in and already the hashtags #OscarsSoWhite, #OscarsSoMale, and #OscarsSoStraight are trending on social media.

As usual, this year’s nominations are devoid of diversity. In fact, it might be the least diverse group of nominees since the hashtag #OscarsSoWhite first became a thing in 2015.

Just two actors of color are nominated in the major acting categories (Cynthia Erivo for Harriet and Antonio Banderas for Pain & Glory), women have been completely shut out of Best Director, and LGBTQ representation is virtually nonexistent.

See the complete list of nominees here.

Here’s what folks are saying…

So women and POC and queer stories are ignored by #Oscars once more. Are we really surprised? #OscarsSoWhite #OscarsSoMale #OscarsSoStraight

Can we make something called The Gay Oscars that gets it right?

— Nick Westrate (@westratenick) January 13, 2020

Also while I haven’t been able to see it yet because of its garbage release and even worse marketing, I suspect “Portrait of a Lady on Fire” deserved some nominations. “Booksmart” was also left out. Is #OscarsSoStraight a thing? Because it should be a thing.

— Liz S. (@LizShattler) January 13, 2020

still thinking about how toy story 4 really doesnt deserve the nom as theres nothing particularly memorable about the film. frozen 2 on the other hand literally said gay rights and conveyed a very strong and powerful message on mental health. im just a tad bit upset

I mean #OscarsSoWhite and #OscarsSoMale and #OscarsSoStraight and #OscarsSoCis but also just #OscarsSoBad

— Klaudia Amenábar WATCH INFINITY TRAIN (@kaludiasays) January 13, 2020

I’ve seen all the Oscar contenders except Joker (I WILL NOT WATCH JOKER) and I feel fairly qualified to say that these nominations are insanely sexist and racist, so brazenly biased toward white men that it feels like the Academy is straight up trolling us.

— Mark Joseph Stern (@mjs_DC) January 13, 2020

I’ve had time to process, and it’s fine that Taron wasn’t nominated. After all, Leonardo had to STRETCH to play an aging straight actor, and that’s so much more Oscar worthy. pic.twitter.com/6s93ExIaRO

These Oscar nominations…..girls and gays, we riot at dawn

— conor mcgrath (@conor_mcg) January 13, 2020

“THE OSCARS ARE IRRELEVANT!” I log on to yell for the 5th straight year. “THIS DUSTY INSTITUTION DOESN’T MATTER!!!!!” I yell for 20 days straight. “I’M GOING TO BURN THE ACADEMY DOWN I’M SO MAD!!!!!!” I tweet about this flailing, irrelevant institution.

— Mother Suspiriorum Fan Account (@coucouaaron) January 13, 2020

Why don’t we kill award shows? We killed the Victoria secret runway show. The oscars, golden globes, Grammys, etc have proven to us they hate women, actors/artists of color, and lgbt people. Just stop watching it and giving them reasons to continue to disappoint.

— Xtra (@soo_xtra) January 13, 2020

Every year I think – maybe this time I’ll have reason to support & watch the Oscars. Every year – nope, let’s go watch whatever great non white/non male/LGBT/action movie they snubbed. Haven’t regretted it in 5 years but wish it wasn’t a tradition I had #OscarSoWhite #OscarNoms

— sarah jade (@sarah31733) January 13, 2020

Taron Egerton and @rocketmanmovie were robbed! #oscars  #pissed #rocketman #oscarssostraight

— Jason Boegh (@jasboegh) January 13, 2020

Pretty sure my Dad did all the Oscar Nominations this year. Sorry everyone. #OscarNoms

The 92nd Annual Academy Awards will air live from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on February 9. Will you be tuning in?

Cory Booker Suspends 2020 Presidential Campaign

Cory Booker Suspends 2020 Presidential Campaign

Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) announced on Monday morning that he’s suspending his campaign for president.

It’s with a full heart that I share this news—I’m suspending my campaign for president.

To my team, supporters, and everyone who gave me a shot—thank you. I am so proud of what we built, and I feel nothing but faith in what we can accomplish together. pic.twitter.com/Fxvc549vlJ

— Cory Booker (@CoryBooker) January 13, 2020

Wrote Booker in a post on Medium: “Our campaign has reached the point where we need more money to scale up and continue building a campaign that can win — money we don’t have, and money that is harder to raise because I won’t be on the next debate stage and because the urgent business of impeachment will rightly be keeping me in Washington. … I will be doing everything in my power to elect the eventual Democratic nominee for president, whomever that may be, and to elect great Democrats to the Senate and up and down the ballot. 2020 is the most important election of our lifetimes — we have to beat Donald Trump … but beating Trump is the floor, not the ceiling.”
