During that sham trial, Pontius Pilate afforded more rights to Jesus than the Democrats have afforded this president in this process.”

Martha Stewart and Antoni Porowski are in a social media feud. Martha’s winning.

Martha Stewart and Antoni Porowski are in a social media feud. Martha’s winning.

There’s nothing like a Christmas-themed celebrity feud to brighten the holiday spirit, and this week Martha Stewart set her tastefully appointed crosshairs on the avocado expert himself, Queer Eye’s Antoni Porowski.

The 78-year-old hostess extraordinaire called out Porowski after he shared an image taken during a holiday party at her home.

“Socializing at Christmas parties,” reads Porowski’s caption alongside an image of him in Stewart’s stable:

Displeased with his flagrant violation of tagging etiquette, Stewart responded: “Dear Antoni: this is @marthastewart48 You did not tag me on this photo of my stable nor the photo of my beautiful dogs Han, Qin, bete noir, and creme brulee We are bummed about that because you have so many followers and you are my Christmas cookies!!! You were nice not to post the forbidden scenes and we thank you!!!”

Porowski was smart enough to know you don’t keep Martha Stewart mad. He tagged the photo and posted an update to his story: “Apologies for not respectfully mentioning dear doggos Empress Chin, Emperor Han, Bête Noire, and cuddle monster Créme Brûlée. They deserve recognition also I rewatch your cabbage roll demo with your dear mum Mrs. Kostyra more often than I care to admit.”

Crisis averted. Or was it?

Porowski then shared another photo from Stewart’s party, sending the ball back into her court: “Patiently keeping my hands warm by her fire pit until @marthastewart48 follows me back,” he wrote.

Stewart, ever the cunning sparring partner, followed Porowski back but commented: “I think we started a social media ‘feud’ which was not the point I just wanted you to acknowledge my fire, my animals and my food which you seemed to love???”

These are some serious mind games. Best of luck to Antoni in this difficult time.

Anti-LGBTQ Extremist Tim Wildmon Says He’s Joined Trump’s Faith Advisory Council But White House Has ‘No Idea What He’s Talking About’

Anti-LGBTQ Extremist Tim Wildmon Says He’s Joined Trump’s Faith Advisory Council But White House Has ‘No Idea What He’s Talking About’

On Monday, American Family Association president Tim Wildmon and his anti-LGBTQ organization put out a press release announcing he was joining Trump’s faith advisory council, but the White House has “no idea what he’s talking about.”

Wrote AFA: “Headline after headline analyze the important role evangelical Christians played in President Donald Trump’s election in 2016 and continue to play in his presidency and his possible re-election in 2020. Now, American Family Association (AFA, www.afa.netPresident Tim Wildmon has been named to President Trump’s faith advisory council, made up of key leaders who support and help guide the president’s faith-based initiatives, give insight on policy important to evangelicals and, most importantly, pray for the president.”

White House Deputy Press Secretary Judd Deere told the Washington Blade on Wednesday: “I have no idea what he’s talking about. There is no such thing as a White House Faith Council or Advisory Board. There is a Faith & Opportunity Initiative led by an advisor, Pastor Paula White, but it does not include a council or advisory board.”

HRC Mourns Nikki Kuhnhausen, 17-Year-Old Trans Girl Murdered in Washington

HRC Mourns Nikki Kuhnhausen, 17-Year-Old Trans Girl Murdered in Washington

HRC is deeply saddened to learn of the death of Nikki Kuhnhausen, a transgender girl who was killed in Vancouver, Washington. Kuhnhausen, 17, was last seen in June and her body was only found this month. David Bogdanov has been arrested and charged with her murder. Kuhnhausen’s cause of death is unknown at this time.

Kuhnhausen’s death is at least the 24th known transgender or gender non-conforming person killed this year. She enjoyed sharing videos of her dancing and singing on her Facebook, and she often posted memes to entertain her friends.

Her loved ones have taken to social media to mourn her passing. “[Y]ou my dear didn’t deserve this … rest with God now,” someone shared. Others have called her “gorgeous” and “a beautiful soul.”

In November, ahead of Transgender Day of Remembrance, HRC Foundation released “A National Epidemic: Fatal Anti-Transgender Violence in America in 2019,” a heartbreaking report honoring the trans people killed and detailing the contributing and motivating factors that lead to this tragic violence.

These victims are not just numbers or headlines. They were real people worthy of dignity and respect, of life and love.

There are currently very few explicit legal protections for transgender or gender-expansive people. While transgender people in Washington are explicitly protected across many aspects of daily life, including housing and employment, and are covered under the state’s hate crimes legislation — the state does not have a law that prohibits bias rage or so-called “panic” defenses for criminal acts. Furthermore, Vancouver does not have an LGBTQ liaison in the city government or police department, according to the 2019 Municipal Equality Index

Despite marginal gains in state and local policies that support and affirm transgender people, recent years have been marked by anti-LGBTQ attacks at all levels of government. We must demand better from our elected officials and reject harmful anti-transgender legislation appearing at the local, state and federal levels because it is clear that fatal violence disproportionately affects transgender women of color. The intersections of racism, transphobia, sexism, biphobia and homophobia conspire to deprive them of necessities to live and thrive.

HRC will continue to hold the Trump-Pence administration and all elected officials who fuel the flames of hate accountable at the ballot box.

This epidemic of violence that disproportionately targets transgender people of color — particularly Black transgender women — must cease.

Rally at Kameny campaign headquarters 1971

Washington Area Spark posted a photo:

Rally at Kameny campaign headquarters 1971

Gay rights activist Franklin Kameny holds a rally outside his congressional campaign headquarters at 1307 E Street NW March 20 1971.

The group would later march to the White House in an attempt to deliver a letter to U.S. President Richard M. Nixon.

The letter called upon Nixon to eliminate the Executive Office and Civil Service bans on homosexuals, admit gay people to the Armed Forces, end the denial of security clearances and include gay people in the protections of the equal opportunity and other civil rights laws.

Kameny became the first openly gay candidate for the United States Congress when he ran in the District of Columbia’s first election for a non-voting Congressional delegate.

Kameny was fired from his job at the Army Map Service in 1957 after he was arrested in Lafayette Park—then a gay male cruising location. The Civil Service fired him as a “sexual pervert.”

Kameny unlike others who hid their heads in shame, fought the dismissal. He lost, but went on to become one of the founders of the Mattachine Society in Washington, D.C.—an early gay rights group.

He brought a militancy to the nascent gay rights movement in the years before the Stonewall Rebellion—generally credited with the start of the gay rights movement.

Kameny was an early gay activist, who together with others, organized picket lines at the White House, Civil Service Commission and Pentagon in 1965.

Kameny was one of the leaders among those who campaigned to overturn the American Psychiatric Association’s classification of homosexuality as a “sickness.”

He and other advocates succeeded in 1973 when the trustees of the APA removed the designation. Dissident psychiatrists petitioned the issue to the membership but the trustees’ decision was upheld 20,000-3,800—a resounding victory for Kameny and the other advocates.

Following his defeat by Democrat Walter E. Fauntroy in the 1971 election, Kameny and his campaign organization created the Gay and Lesbian Alliance of Washington, D.C., an organization which continues to lobby government and press the case for equal rights

Kameny died in 2011.
