Mom discovers teenage son shares name with “prolific” adult film star

Mom discovers teenage son shares name with “prolific” adult film star

What’s in a name? Well, one concerned mom thinks a lot is riding on her child’s unfortunate name, and now she’s seeking advice.

By some estimates, 77% of employers will Google an applicant before hiring them, so it’s understandable that Mom is concerned her 17-year-old son coincidentally shares a name with a prominent adult film performer.

But is it really that big of a deal?

“We first realized this about two years ago,” she writes, “and the problem has only gotten worse, as the star has become more … prolific.”

“There’s no shortened form or nickname, and our son has no middle name, so we don’t have options but to legally change it.”

A legal name change does seem a tad extreme, and it seems her son agrees.

“The problem is our son does not want to do this,” she explains. “He doesn’t care about the overlap, it’s the only name he and everyone else has ever known him by, and a change will likely highlight the underlying reason.”

“Should we play the parent card and force a legal name change?” she asks.

The advice columnist comes back with a resounding: “Absolutely not.”

They elaborate a bit, but is that even necessary? Case closed.

Brutal Joe Biden Ad Shows World Leaders Laughing at ‘Dangerously Incompetent’ Trump: WATCH

A new Joe Biden ad shows world leaders laughing at Trump and includes footage from this week’s NATO summit in London.

The world is laughing at President Trump. They see him for what he really is: dangerously incompetent and incapable of world leadership.

We cannot give him four more years as commander in chief. pic.twitter.com/IR8K2k54YQ

— Joe Biden (@JoeBiden) December 5, 2019

Says Biden in the ad: “The world sees Trump for what he is. Insincere, ill-informed, corrupt, dangerously incompetent, and incapable in my view of world leadership. And if we give Donald Trump four more years, we’ll have a great deal of difficulty of ever being able to recover America’s standing in the world, and our capacity to bring nations together.”

Today, Pantene, in partnership with GLAAD & the Trans Chorus of Los Angeles, has released a new video series called “Going Home for the Holidays,” which seeks to bring awareness to the unique challenges that members of the LGBTQ community face during the holiday season.

Although 137 million Americans will travel home this holiday season, the “Going Home for the Holidays” series highlights how an estimated 44% of LGBTQ people feel like they can not come home as their true selves. The video series also showcases members of the Trans Chorus of Los Angeles as they share their own experiences of going home, set to the soundtrack of their rendition of “I’ll Be Home for Christmas.” Through the series, Pantene wants to celebrate and encourage individuals to be proud of who they are – whenever, wherever, and however they come home.

Pantene’s new “Going Home for the Holidays” video series builds upon the brand’s “Don’t Hate Me Because I’m Beautiful” Campaign, launched during Pride Month 2019. In addition to the main campaign video, the “Going Home for the Holidays” series also features videos of four members of the Trans Chorus of Los Angeles as they share their own stories and speak about why coming home should be #BeautifuLGBTQ. Check out their stories below:

“At Pantene, we are committed to sharing diverse stories and overcoming obstacles to eliminate bias, celebrate personal expression and show a more inclusive world that emanates a holistic definition of beauty. “Going Home for the Holidays” sheds light on a universal experience felt amongst the LGBTQ+ community – the personal heartache of not being able to share their truest identity with family and friends, even at this special time of the year,” said Ilaria Resta, Vice President, North America Hair Care, Procter & Gamble. “We are honored to be stewards of the LGBTQ+ community and to help tell their important and transformational stories.”

“Pantene is setting the standard for authentic inclusion of LGBTQ people and stories among brands that transcend industries,” said GLAAD President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis. “LGBTQ stories need to be told by brands outside of Pride month and Pantene is demonstrating a real commitment to LGBTQ storytelling with this moving holiday video. Especially around the holidays when too many LGBTQ people feel isolated, it’s so important to remind community members who celebrate with families – chosen or otherwise – that they are beautiful.”

What to Watch: OCD romance, a holiday extravaganza and Trixie Mattel bares it all

What to Watch: OCD romance, a holiday extravaganza and Trixie Mattel bares it all

Trixie Mattel: Moving Parts

Stepping out on a movie date this weekend? Netflix and chillin? Whatever your entertainment needs, we got your back (and hopefully your mind) with Queerty’s weekly “Culture Club” column with some of the highlights of new releases, streaming shows, classics worth revisiting, and what to drink while you watch.

The Catch: Work in Progress

We caught the pilot episode of this series back when it screened at Sundance for potential distributors. Apparently Lily Wachowski & the good folks at Showtime caught it too, as it finally airs this week. Work in Progress follows the neurotic life of Abby (played by series creator Abby McEnany), a self-described fat, butch lesbian with OCD who allegedly had her life ruined by the SNL character Pat. When her path crosses with Pat’s creator, Julia Sweeney, a strange friendship begins with Sweeney becoming something of a much-needed counselor for Abby. That relationship also becomes important when Abby meets the handsome transman Chris (Theo Germaine, of The Politician), and falls hard. Work in Progress examines very serious subjects in the queer community—gender fluidity, mental illness, and aging—with wit and courage. That, coupled with a weird meta-element (McEnany & Sweeney play themselves) makes Work in Progress a unique and funny series, one unlike anything else on TV.

Debuts December 8 on Showtime.

The Bow: Mrs. Fletcher

One of the best—and most sexually fluid—TV shows of the year takes a final bow this weekend. Mrs. Fletcher follows Eve (Kathryn Hahn), a divorcee who just saw her son Brenden (Jackson White) off to college. Her sudden, abundant free time leads her to join a writing class overseen by Margot (Jen Richards)…and to explore her own sexual impulses. Those include a tryst with a younger man, some lesbian sexual experiences, and some very big laughs. Having seen the finale, we can attest: it’s downright hilarious. Moreover, Hahn gives a fantastic performance in the title role, as does Richards as Eve’s transgender moral guide. Much like Work in Progress, it’s not quite like any other show on the airwaves.

Streams on HBO Go. Finale airs on HBO December 8.

The Cause: Cyndi Lauper’s Home for the Holidays

Anyone looking to help a good cause, take a trip to Hollywood, or both, book your tickets now for Cyndi Lauper’s Home for the Holidays, the singer’s annual charity concert to help end homelessness among LGBTQ youth. This year’s show features an impressive lineup that includes Lauper, Billy Porter, Belinda Carlisle, Henry Rollins, Lily Tomlin, Margaret Cho and Kesha performing their hits. 100% of the proceeds go to ending homelessness among queer youth, which makes it a more than worthy cause. Besides, where else can you see Henry Rollins, Kesha and Billy Porter all on the same bill?

December 10 at The Novo at LA Live in Los Angeles. Tickets are available now.

The Adorbs: Season of Love

The march of delightfully schmaltzy holiday-themed movies featuring out-LGBTQ characters continues, this time with Season of Love, a storybook holiday story in the tradition of Hallmark’s comfort food Christmas movies, with one big difference. Season of Love follows a group of queer women as they struggle with work, love, family and the holiday bustle. Though utterly predictable, the movie does offer up an appealing cast of women, led by an energized performance by Jessica Clark. Given that and the thirst to see heartwarming cheese with a hearty dose of queer life mixed in makes Season of Love worth a look.

Available to rent or own via web download.

The Reveal: Trixie Mattel: Moving Parts

Who’d have thought that a documentary about a folk-singing drag queen would actually be one of the best movies of 2019? We caught Moving Parts on the festival circuit earlier this spring where it astonished us with its candid vision of the titular queen struggling to make a living on tour. Far from fan service or an overlong glorification of its subject, the movie doesn’t flinch as Trixie opens up about homophobia in her family, her abusive childhood, her relationship with fellow Drag Race alum Katya (who has an on-camera breakdown), and all the woes of trying to make it in the music business…while wearing heels. It’s a must for Trixie fans as well as anyone who appreciates the struggle for art.

Streams on YouTube & Amazon.

The Spin: Naked & Famous – Sunseeker

For anyone missing the sun amid the December drabness, have a listen to the latest single from the electropop duo Naked & Famous. “Sunseeker” features the New Zealand natives singing about love and sunshine with the pair channeling visions of beaches, oranges and sunny days. It’s enough to fight back against the gloom, and an upbeat track to help lighten the mood on a cloudy day.

Video streams on YouTube.

The Sip: Meet Me Under the Mistletoe

To get in the holiday spirit–or enjoy the taste of one–sip on this titillating taste which also works well as a mistletoe substitute.

  • 3 ounces Barefoot Bubbly Extra Dry
  • 6 mint sprigs (approximately 12-15 leaves)
  • ½ ounce maple syrup
  • 2/3 ounce brandy
  • Candy cane

Mix mint, syrup, brandy and ice in a cocktail shaker. Shake well. Strain into a glass with crushed ice. Add bubbly. Garnish with the candy cane.

In her first-ever appearance on The Howard Stern Show, Hillary Clinton talked about her past relationships, her marriage to Bill Clinton, and the relationship she had immediately before meeting Bill.

“He was a good guy… he was so handsome, really handsome. He looked like a Greek god. He was very attractive,” said Clinton. “Contrary to what you might hear, I actually like men.”

“Raise your right hand, you’ve never had a lesbian affair,” interjected Stern.

“Never, never, never! Never even been tempted, thank you very much.”

Clinton was on Stern’s show to promote her book, The Book of Gutsy Women. More clips from the interview, which covered the election and Trump’s inauguration, Senator Lindsey Graham, and more:

HRC Foundation Recognizes More than 100 Employers in Mexico For Their Commitment to LGBT Inclusion

HRC Foundation Recognizes More than 100 Employers in Mexico For Their Commitment to LGBT Inclusion

Today, HRC Foundation, launched its third annual HRC Equidad MX: Programa Global de Equidad Laboral, a survey evaluating LGBT workplace inclusion within major Mexican businesses and multinationals. Since its inception, the program has experienced unprecedented growth — this year, 120 employers have earned top ratings in the 2020 HRC Equidad MX report, reflecting their commitment to LGBT equality and adoption of essential LGBT-inclusive policies and practices in their workplaces.

“Promoting fundamental rights and welcoming workplaces for LGBT employees is not only in the interest of fairness — it is also smart for business,” said HRC President Alphonso David. “As the new president of the Human Rights Campaign, I am proud to witness the unprecedented positive change driven by HRC Equidad MX and the enthusiastic response of hundreds of business leaders who understand the critical importance and economic value of LGBT workplace inclusion in Mexico.”

HRC President Alphonso David will deliver remarks at a launch event today, hosted by Walmart Mexico and Central America and supported by prominent LGBT-committed corporate partners including IBM, Edelman, UBER and many others. The event will convene hundreds of corporate leaders, participating companies, civil society stakeholders and influencers — including Christian Chávez, an openly gay actor and singer — to celebrate LGBT workplace inclusion.

The pioneering Equidad MX program, modeled after HRC’s Corporate Equality Index  — the premier LGBTQ workplace equality benchmarking survey in the U.S., recognized top-scoring companies with the HRC Foundation’s designation of “Best Places to Work for LGBT Equality” or “Mejores Lugares para Trabajar LGBT”. The award honors their commitment to expanding efforts creating welcoming and fair workplaces for LGBT employees.

The groundbreaking success of  HRC Equidad MX is reflected in the rapidly-growing number of companies participating in the survey — and achieving top ratings for LGBT workplace equality. In the survey’s inaugural year, 32 companies in Mexico — including PEMEX, one of the largest employers in Latin America — earned top ratings. That number jumped to 69 companies last year, and hit 120 this year — including 36 that are based in Mexico. HRC Equidad MX seeks to continue to expand this network of inclusive employers throughout Mexico.

The 2020 HRC Equidad MX Report assessed major Mexican businesses and multinational companies on three core pillars of LGBT inclusion:

  • Adoption of nondiscrimination policies;
  • Creation of employee resource groups or diversity and inclusion councils; and
  • Engagement in public activities to support LGBT inclusion.

“All the participating companies are making genuine efforts to promote an LGBT-inclusive corporate culture and best practices across Mexican workplaces,” said Beck Bailey, director of HRC Foundation’s Workplace Equality Program. “Providing a work space where LGBT employees can reach their full potential is key to attracting and retaining the best workforce. We commend the business honorees for their leadership and dedication to fostering LGBT inclusion for all their employees.”

“The inspiring results of HRC Equidad MX constitute a remarkable landmark for LGBT workplace inclusion in Mexico and the broader Latin American region,” said Francisco Robledo and Fernando Velázquez, HRC Equidad MX Implementing Partners. “The growing number of businesses committed to promoting LGBT-inclusive policies and practices indicates that more and more corporate leaders understand and value the fairness and benefits of inclusive workplaces.”

Earlier this year, HRC staff convened with members of the HRC Equidad MX Business Council to develop strategies to achieve long-lasting impact throughout Mexico and discuss LGBT-inclusive trends and the success achieved in the first three of remarkable workplace inclusion efforts.

Through its CEI, Equidad MX and Equidad CL programs, the HRC Foundation has established guidelines to implement LGBTQ-inclusive policies, practices and benefits across national and international corporations impacting more than 30.6 million employees worldwide. This endeavor is complemented by the HRC Global program, which supports the work of communities throughout the world in advocacy of the full rights of LGBTQ people around the world. This year, HRC announced a major initiative to pursue strategic litigation in countries where they can make a difference as part of broader efforts in the movement for LGBTQ equality.

HRC is proud to recognize 3M, Accenture, Airbnb, Amazon México, American Airlines, American Express México, Aon, AT Kearney, AT&T México, AXA Partners, Bain & Company México, Baker McKenzie, BASF, Boston Consulting Group, Best Buy México, BNP Paribas Cardif, Brown-Forman México, CBRE, Cineápolis, Cisco Systems of México, Citibanamex, Coca Cola FEMSA, Coca-Cola México, Compucom México, Creel, García-Cuéllar, Aiza y Enríquez, Cushman & Wakefield México, Dell EMC, Deloitte Consulting, Diageo, Distribuidora Therso, Dow Química Mexicana, Edelman, Edenred México, Experts, EY, Facebook, Festival Internacional de Cine de Los Cabos, Ford Motor Company, Gayosso, GE México, General Motors de México, Google México, Grupo Cinco M, Grupo Modelo, Here Technologies, Herman Miller, Hotel Marriott Puerto Vallarta, HP Inc, HSBC México, Hyatt Regency Mexico City, IBM, IFT, INE, Intel México, IPG Media Brands, iTexico, J.P.
