Thirsty fans thrilled to spot Henry Cavill taking a bath

According to the new trailer for The Witcher, Henry Cavill plays a “mutant created by magic roaming the continent hunting monsters for a price.” Either that or he’s just a guy people think is a mutant — now there’s a twist.

But even the most world-weary warrior needs some “me time,” and a nice, soothing bath is the perfect way to brush off the stresses of the day, especially when they involve blocking sharp blades flying at your face.

And fans were very happy to see Cavill soaking it up:

The Witcher could very well be an absolutely terrible show but it will still have Henry Cavill in a bathtub and for those reasons I’m in.

— Yamilia Avendaño (@idsanty) October 31, 2019

My timeline is now full of pictures of Henry Cavill naked in his bathtub and I’m ok with this.

The Witcher has the Geralt in a bathtub scene. Well of course, would have been disappointed otherwise.

Also Henry Cavill, good Geralt voice. #TheWitcher #Netflix #HenryCavill

I’M REELING THEY REALLY MADE HENRY CAVILL DO A SEMBLANCE OF THAT INFAMOUS BATHTUB SCENE. SOOO EXCITED FOR THE WITCHER

Honoring the Resilience of the Transgender Community

Honoring the Resilience of the Transgender Community

As a transgender man working in social justice in the nation’s capital, Rodrigo Heng-Lehtinen knows visibility is more important now than ever.

“There’s a stereotype that trans people always knew they were trans since they were kids. That’s true for some of our community, but not everyone. Personally, I always knew that something didn’t fit, that something was off, but I didn’t know what, and the lack of visibility is a big part of that,” Heng-Lehtinen told HRC. “It took me meeting other trans masculine people to realize that’s who I was. Once I learned about transmasculinity, I immediately understood why I had been struggling for so long. That’s the power of visibility. We all need to see ourselves in the world around us.”

Heng-Lehtinen, the deputy executive director at the National Center for Transgender Equality, said the increased visibility of transgender people in the media “blows his mind.”

“When I was growing up, not only were there very few trans people on TV, but those few trans people were portrayed disrespectfully…I never dreamed we would see so many positive, complex portrayals of our community,” he said. “This progress is a testament to the power of activism. I’d like to see this continue. The best stories are inspired by the diversity of real life. There are still a ton of powerful trans stories out there waiting to be brought to life for audiences around the world.”

Allies could help raise those powerful stories by ensuring that all social justice issues are intersectional with transgender issues and that transgender people have a seat at the table.

With the epidemic of violence against transgender people, this allyship remains immensly important. More than 150 transgender people have been killed in the U.S. in recent years  — most were Black transgender women and most were victims of gun violence.

We must not only say their names, but honor their memories with action. That’s why HRC recently launched a major expansion in the fight for transgender equality and justice, which will address the urgent needs of the transgender community, with specific attention to community members deeply impacted by racism, sexism and transphobia. This major effort will include a focus on economic empowerment; capacity-building programs; targeted task forces in communities hardest hit hard by the epidemic of anti-trans violence; and expanded public education campaigns.

“Fight for change … Vote for trans-affirming candidates that will improve policy so that trans people, especially Black trans women, are protected,” Heng-Lehtinen said. “Support the decriminalization of sex work so people aren’t put in such dangerous situations. And donate to trans organizations, including local ones, fighting on the front lines to make everyone safe.”

University stands behind professor’s vehemently antigay social media posts

University stands behind professor’s vehemently antigay social media posts

Bruce Murray is an associate professor at Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama. He has worked at the university since 1996 and teaches in the College of Education. He’s also a major homophobe.

Murray has recently come under fire after students discovered several homophobic and transphobic posts on his personal Facebook page, some from as recently as this past August.

In addition to decrying “homosexualism,” sharing homophobic memes, and posting anti-LGBTQ articles published by Brietbart, some of Murray’s other posts have included:

  • Sharing a meme of a trans woman with the caption “Today’s liberals are so dumb they think men can change into women. And so evil they will punish you for telling the truth.”
  • Claiming that “the XY chromosomes in 37 trillion cells say that this guy is male. Who cares? Say the science deniers.”
  • Calling a drag queen a “gender-confused crossdresser.”
  • Saying that all of Donald Trump’s “bad tweets” combined aren’t nearly as terrible as the “single firing or non-hire of a person for being critical of the ‘LGBT’ agenda or a single obscene ‘Drag Queen Story Hour’ corrupting the minds of little children.”
  • Saying that the rainbow is “not a symbol we should cede to the homosexuals” and that “God designed [the rainbow.] It has a meaning exactly the opposite of homosexualism,” adding the “rainbow doesn’t mean inclusion. It means shut up.”

But the hate speech extends beyond just Facebook. The Auburn Plainsman reports:

In letters to the editor published in the Opelika-Auburn News from 2003 to 2014, Murray has written that “calling homosexual commitment ceremonies ‘marriage’ is fraudulent and counterfactual,” and that when “jubilant homosexuals celebrated the decision” of same-sex marriage equality in New York, they were “losers.”

When students learned what Murray has been posting on social media, they were understandably upset. But the university appears to standing by him, refusing to comment on his blatantly homophobic and transphobic behavior, other than to say it’s a free speech issue.

Theresa McCormick, the associate dean of the College of Education, tells The Auburn Plainsman that she finds Murray’s Facebook posts “disturbing” and “would be offended by them” if they popped up on her personal computer, but “he has the freedom of speech.”

“His personal beliefs are really no concern of mine, as they are any other faculty member,” McCormick said, dismissively.

In a letter to the editor, Murray, who is up for tenure at the university, writes, “My posts on Facebook are addressed to a private community of like-minded conservatives.”

He adds, “Given my advocacy of a political point of view, I recognize an obligation to practice tolerance toward those who disagree with me. I would never dream of organizing reprisals against those who hold contrary views, and I expect the tolerance I practice to be reciprocated.”

The City of Auburn, where the university is located, doesn’t offer any protections for sexual orientation or gender identity in its non-discrimination ordinances, putting it on the list of worst places to live in the United States for LGBTQ people and students.

AARON SORKIN. Playwright and screenwriter of The Social Network sends open letter to Mark Zuckerberg: “But this can’t possibly be the outcome you and I want, to have crazy lies pumped into the water supply that corrupt the most important decisions we make together. Lies that have a very real and incredibly dangerous effect on our elections and our lives and our children’s lives.”

THE GOSPEL OF KANYE WEST. Kim Kardashian is a believer.

WITH A STRAIGHT FACE. Donald Trump Jr: “I wish my name was Hunter Biden. I could go abroad and make millions off my father’s presidency. I’d be a really rich guy.”

GETTING SERIOUS. Senate shifts tone on impeachment: “While no Senate Republican has said the charges against Trump rise to the level of being an impeachable offense, many have expressed concern over the drip-drip of damaging revelations.”

V-WARS. There’s a new vampire series starring Ian Somerhalder.

CARLY SIMON. Trump “was all over me like ugly on an ape.” “I don’t think there’s much interest outside himself,” she said. “What will happen with a narcissist is that they’re interested in themselves and anything that’s an extension of themselves, perhaps their children, but he’s not interested in the philosophy of great thinkers, I suspect.”

SCAM OF THE DAY. Playwright Jeremy O. Harris gets Seth Meyers to pay for premium tickets for 10 people to his play, Slave Play (our review here).

Last night @SlavePlayBway author @jeremyoharris did one of my favorite things ever. He said how when he was poor he scammed Broadway tickets, and then he scammed Seth into buying Slave Play tickets for the first 10 people who tweeted him. Like watching a magic trick unfold. pic.twitter.com/b3aMqHWi59

JASON MOMOA. I’m not very smart.

ICELAND. Bishop of Iceland apologizes to gay and lesbian community: ‘Bishop of Iceland Agnes M. Sigurðardóttir has apologised to the gay and lesbian community of Iceland on behalf of the country’s National Church. The apology was made during an interview on talk show Kastljós yesterday evening. Reporter Einar Þorsteinsson asked Agnes about the position the previous Bishop, Karl Sigurbjörnsson, took on same sex marriage. In 2016, under Karl’s leadership, the National Church strongly protested a bill introduced to protect the rights of homosexual people. The bill proposed granting pastors within the National Church the authority to wed same sex couples. In an interview taken at that time, Karl stated “I think we owe it to [the institution of] marriage to not toss it on the garbage heap without considering what we’re doing.”’

PSA OF THE DAY. Alex Trebek talks about his pancreatic cancer. “In nearly every country, pancreatic cancer is the only major cancer with a five-year survival rate in the single digits. Now, in order to help patients fight and survive this disease, more attention and awareness are needed. I wished I had known sooner that the persistent stomach pain I experienced prior to my diagnosis was a symptom of pancreatic cancer.”

HONEST TRAILER OF THE DAY. The Shining.

THIRSTY THURSDAY. Derek Spill.
