Alex Diaz is a 25-year-old Filipino-Scottish actor and model who lives in Manila. Yesterday, he came out as bisexual in an emotional Instagram post after being outed by someone online last week.

It all started last Wednesday when a man claiming to be an “online fitness coach” shared screenshots of a private Instagram exchange between himself and Diaz.

In the conversation, Diaz asked if the man “accepted indecent proposals.” When the man said no, Diaz apologized then asked him not to share the conversation. In an act of cruelty, the man leaked the screenshots anyway and they quickly spread on social media before being published by an online tabloid.

Afterwards, Diaz laid low for a few days. Until yesterday, when he finally broke his silence.

“Thank you for the thousands of messages of love and support all over twitter and my message requests here on Instagram,” he wrote to his 580,000 followers yesterday.

“Never again will I be shackled by the fear of what might be said about who I am for fear of losing my career and instead, I will seek help, heal and champion change, acceptance and representation for the bisexual community and/or anyone who is met with prejudice in our society.”

thank you for the thousands of messages of love and support all over twitter and my message requests here on instagram. I am going to release a full statement when the time is right but for now I would just like to say sorry and thank you. I ask forgiveness from my management, the brands, supporters, friends, my family and everyone else I let down by what I did and/or who I am. Im sorry, I was wrong in my actions and failed to uphold the values I so strongly try to convey online. It was not my intention to hurt anyone or elude the truth of who I am for all these years but rather a showbiz decisions based on the state of our nation in regards to acceptance and representation of who I am. But I sincerely thank everyone for not failing to remind me that I am human and that I too am loved. —Never again will I be shackled by the fear of what might be said about who I am for fear of losing my career and instead, I will seek help, heal and champion change, acceptance and representation for the bisexual community and/or anyone who is met with prejudice in our society. I see now that my actions are not caused by but rather the effect of the unhealthy and toxic suppression of all of who I am as a human being. Im in a better place now. My passion is performing, making people happy & making people smile. My only hope is that I can continue to use this platform to do such in whatever new path this universe-given experience has opened up for me. For now, I will rest, reevaluate and come back stronger and better than ever. I love you all, I have learned and I am growing. thank you. ??????

Diaz continued, “It was not my intention to hurt anyone or elude the truth of who I am for all these years but rather a showbiz decisions based on the state of our nation in regards to acceptance and representation of who I am.”

He concluded, “My passion is performing, making people happy & making people smile. My only hope is that I can continue to use this platform to do such in whatever new path this universe-given experience has opened up for me. For now, I will rest, reevaluate and come back stronger and better than ever. I love you all, I have learned and I am growing.”

While the circumstances leading up to Diaz’s coming out are cruel and unfair, he seems to be making the most of the situation by refusing to live in fear. He is also fortunate in that the Philippines is frequently ranked as one of the most gay-friendly nations in Asia. In 2013, it ranked #10 most gay-friendly in a 2013 global survey of 39 countries.

Have been really fortunate to experience such comfort and great service here at @unimmanchiangmai. The room is fantastic and the staff are very kind. Apart from that, I’ve been grateful for not having to worry about acne. My skin has been as smooth as the @thaiairways flight from Manila to Chiang Mai thanks to my regular visits to Doc @cathyvalencia. The weather has been hot and I’ve gotten pretty down and dirty with all the fun activities out here but I’ve been comforted by the fact that @axe Ice Chill has kept me smelling good and its helped make this trip so much more chill. I’ve enjoyed uninterrupted LTE from @enjoyglobe after registering for the 3 day data roaming service and the photos i have to take home with me are priceless thanks to the quality of my iPhone XR from @powermaccenter. I’m grateful for the partnerships and the trust. but for now, there’s more adventures to be had in #AmazingThailand! #appreciationpost

High School Football Team Under Investigation for Subjecting Gay Male Cheerleader to Homophobic Abuse, Bullying, and Physical Threats

High School Football Team Under Investigation for Subjecting Gay Male Cheerleader to Homophobic Abuse, Bullying, and Physical Threats

Members of the Wilcox High School football team in Santa Clara, California are under investigation by police after allegedly subjecting a 14-year-old gay male cheerleader who cheers for their team to homophobic abuse, bullying, and physical threats at one of their games. The cheerleader has not been identified because he is a minor. The situation has thrown the school into turmoil.

A Change.org petition urging “consequences” for the football players at fault is currently collecting signatures.

It says: “At a football game on October 18th, members of the Wilcox High School Varsity football team chanted homophobic slurs (including “f-g”) at a male member of the cheerleading team. They called him “gay” for cheerleading for THEIR team, and showing up every game to cheer them on. Despite the fact that the cheerleaders spend hours of their day cheering on various sports teams, these football members thought it appropriate to be cruel and harass a single cheerleader based on their biases and prejudice. While many people are aware of this incident, there is a slim chance much will be done to change this behavior by tweeting/posting about it. The main purpose of this petition is to call the administration and football coaches to attention, so they can investigate this incident. This sickening incident requires consequences, so it never happens to someone again. It would be greatly appreciated if you shared this.”

Reports of the players calling the cheerleader “gay” and a “fag” got wider exposure on social media shortly after the incident after the cheerleader’s sister, who had been the cheerleading squad’s captain but has since graduated, defended him on Twitter (screenshots via Outsports).

Santa Clara police are now investigating

The victim of the attacks posted a tweet on Sunday night denouncing the players that attacked him.

Said the tweet: “I am a boy and i am on the cheer team. i understand that people might think that’s different but when it comes down to it nobody deserves to be talked about in a negative way at all. it doesn’t matter your sexual orientation, your gender, your religion, your race or anything else. … everyone should be treated equally and it hurts my heart that people on the football team that are almost fully grown and are talking about me and my teammates and bashing us for no reason other than me being gay and a freshman and my friends sticking up for me. … THEN saying that nobody was talking bad about us or anything during the rally the people behind you heard everything you said and know your jersey number. i had nothing but respect for every single person on that team and everyone else i had no negative opinions on anyone. … i mind my business everyday when i get to school and i never wanted anything bad to happen to myself, anyone that i care about, and everyone else otherwise. thank you to everyone that is doing what they can to help me and my teammates, and everyone that is checking up on me.”

The Mercury News reports: ‘At the rally Friday, which administrators and teachers attended, the crowd and football players chanted, “Hey, Hey, Hey,” while waving arms back and forth, the source said, adding that the cheerleader might have interpreted the chants as, “Gay, Gay, Gay.” The father said that’s not what his son or his cheerleading teammates heard. “This is far from a misunderstanding,” said the father, who broke down several times during a 30-minute interview. The father says his son heard far worse, being called a slang word for being gay that is considered a slur. The father also said his son had been subjected to other incidents over the past month. The boy’s parents said they did not want their son to cheer Friday night at the game after the incident at the pep rally, but he went anyway. …The father said his son faced more verbal insults during halftime at the game. He said the cheerleaders protested the team by refusing to hold up banners the players run through to enter the field.’

The teen cheerleader did not attend school on Tuesday, out of fear for his safety.

The Mercury News added: “The father added that a Chargers football player also was threatened by teammates at the Santa Clara school after it was revealed that he provided the family with screenshots that corroborate the alleged slurs. The family has not provided this news organization with copies of the screenshots.”

The Santa Clara police are currently investigating: “What we can say is that we are investigating reports of inappropriate conduct and determining if it rises to a criminal matter.”

School district spokeswoman Jennifer Dericco released a statement on Tuesday: “At Santa Clara Unified School District, we proactively work to create an environment that embraces diversity and we do not tolerate harassment or bullying of any kind.”

Texas HD-28 Needs to Turn OUT for Eliz Markowitz on November 5

Texas HD-28 Needs to Turn OUT for Eliz Markowitz on November 5

HRC, Equality Texas and the Texas Freedom Network have endorsed out candidate Eliz Markowitz in the Texas special election happening Nov. 5 — but we need your help to ensure this pro-equality champion is elected.

Nine seats in the Texas House is all that we need to secure a pro-equality majority — and there are 12 seats within reach. We can get a head start for 2020 by supporting Markowitz for HD-28 and picking up this seat now.

HRC Texas is already hard at work with Markowitz’s campaign, partners and members on the ground to ensure she wins next month.

We don’t want to downplay this: it’s going to be a big lift to canvass thousands of voters in the next few weeks.

We need your help getting through our turnout lists. Markowitz’s campaign is hosting weekly canvassing and virtual phone banks — and they need more volunteers to help. Will you join HRC, partners and Markowitz’s team for a volunteer shift?

Click here to sign-up for a shift today.

Winning a pro-equality majority for Texas in 2020 starts with winning HD-28 this November.

We can do it. Help us make history.

Graham Winnie Wants One Thing for Her 100th Birthday: ‘To Impeach This Sucker’ — WATCH

Graham Winnie Wants One Thing for Her 100th Birthday: ‘To Impeach This Sucker’ — WATCH

A woman calling herself Grandma Winnie went viral on Tuesday for a video in which she holds a MAGA hat and makes her birthday wish known.

Hopefully Grandma Winnie gets her wish! pic.twitter.com/fdohMHJL1t

— Monica Graham (@graham_monica) October 22, 2019

“I’m 100 years old,” she says in the clip, “and all I want for my birthday is for someone to impeach this sucker.” She then flings the MAGA hat out of frame where it is heard bouncing on the floor.

Marketwatch reports: ‘It’s unclear whether the Grandma Winnie video is legit, however. The original clip appears to have first been shared on Instagram on Monday by activist art project Indecline 2020, which has used street art, film and parody to “expose justices carried out by both corporations and government agencies.” The lead clip on its Indiegogo page even parodies a Trump ransom video, where an actor pretending to be the president (whose wrists are in handcuffs) asks for donations for the art project. The group has raised a little over $19,000 toward its $250,000 goal. It did not immediately respond to a MarketWatch request for comment. But many on Twitter were indeed eating the video up, with several expressing surprise at Grandma Winnie’s appearing to be a Trump supporter at first but then ending her video on the cusp of dropping an F-bomb against the president.’

+Life counters HIV stigma with powerful new weekly video series

+Life counters HIV stigma with powerful new weekly video series

Credit: +Life

+Life is a new digital lifestyle brand which focuses on combating the stigma facing those living with HIV. Available on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and at PlusLifeMedia.com, +Life is produced by AOMEDIA and provides original content that shatters stereotypes, myths and inaccuracies about living with HIV. The +Life team will be working with GLAAD on upcoming videos and has already attended several GLAAD events where they have brought up much needed discussions of HIV.

The creation of +Life was inspired by Karl Schmid, an internationally known entertainment reporter who has been a featured talent on leading networks including KABC, ABC.com, TLC and Logo, as well as on programming in his native Australia. Schmid opened up about his own HIV-positive status in a Facebook post in 2018. Schmid serves as +Life’s editorial director, and will use the platform to continue sharing his message and educating others on the realities of living with HIV.

+Life launched with an original weekly video series called “+Talk.” Hosted by Schmid, it features honest conversations and empowering information around topics like the recent undetectable = untransmittable public education work. New content will be added regularly across social media channels, with +Talk episodes available on Facebook and YouTube.

“I kept my diagnosis secret for 10 long years because some well-meaning people I trusted told me that revealing my status would ruin my career. Did I really want to be known as ‘the guy on TV with AIDS?’ Then one afternoon while scrolling through The AIDS Memorial Instagram account, I was inspired to overcome my fear, and decided to share my positive status,” said Schmid. “I was amazed at the overwhelming support I immediately received from loved ones and strangers around the world, and my hope for +Life, is that it helps others learn they too, have the freedom to live and love proudly, and help change stigma-induced fear common among those living with the disease in private. A positive HIV status is not something that should hold anyone back from achieving their dreams and living life to its fullest potential.”

More than 37 million people globally are living with HIV today. Today, people who have HIV and engage in proper medical treatment can’t pass it on and live long, healthy, and productive lives, however, stigma remains and impacts access to health care, employment, and community.

+Life has plans for additional programming including interviews with newsmakers and activists, as well as relaying the latest in practical medical information. +Life will also address topics related to sex, dating and relationships, from the perspective of people living with HIV and their partners.

“+Life is for those living with HIV, the people who support them, and anyone at risk of contracting the disease – which is everyone,” said Executive Producers Brent Zacky and Michael Spierer, AOMEDIA. “Fear and lack of information can literally be a death sentence for people who do not get tested or are afraid to seek treatment. Our goal is to entertain while we educate, building a community and providing the facts everyone needs to lead happy, healthy, complete lives.”
