The cop’s wild abandon in his dance also earned him supportive notice from the internet. “This officer is amazing. Loud, proud and dancing. @PrideBrighton @HertsPoliceLGBT Love to see him at Manchester Pride in a few weeks,” said Twitter user Graham Mitchell. “Love this, 50 years after Stonewall, the police are not fighting us, they are dancing with us,” said Radhe Shyam, echoing a similar sentiment.

Kylie Minogue headlined Brighton Pride this year, crooning out gay anthem after gay anthem. Former Spice Girl Mel C also took to the stage to perform the Spice Girls’ song “2 Become 1,” which she dedicated to the transgender and non-binary communities.

Transgender Woman Murdered in South Florida

Transgender Woman Murdered in South Florida

“Kiki” Fantroy, a transgender woman, was murdered in Southwest Miami-Dade County late last week, on a street corner near an abandoned home. She is the 13th documented homicide of a transgender woman this year.

The Miami Herald reports: ‘The victim’s mother had speculated publicly the past two days that her daughter was targeted because of her gender identity. But a law enforcement source familiar with the crime said Friday that police were “making progress” in the investigation and that they don’t believe Fantroy’s gender identity played any part in her death. …Miami-Dade Police Detective Lee Cowart said Fantroy was shot several times and that there was a group of people nearby when the shooting happened. Police haven’t said if the shooter was on foot or approached in a vehicle. ‘

HRC Mourns Kiki Fantroy, a Black Trans Woman Killed in Florida

HRC Mourns Kiki Fantroy, a Black Trans Woman Killed in Florida

HRC is deeply saddened to learn of the death of Kiki Fantroy, a Black transgender woman fatally shot in Miami last week.

Fantroy, 21, was found in the early hours of July 31 after being shot multiple times, according to reports. She was taken to a nearby hospital, where she died of her injuries.

Fantroy’s mother remembered her as having “a heart of gold” and being “a very loving person.” She also pleaded for justice in her daughter’s death, saying to reporters, “My baby, my baby. Please help bring justice to my baby.”

Fantroy’s death comes as a national spotlight is focused on the ongoing epidemic of gun violence in the U.S.. In the last 10 days, communities in Gilroy, California; El Paso, Texas; and Dayton, Ohio have been devastated by mass shootings. Of the more than 140 known victims of anti-transgender violence from 2013 to present, approximately two-thirds of those killed were victims of gun violence.

Tragically, Fantroy’s death is the 13th known case of deadly violence against the transgender community in 2019. All of the victims were Black transgender women.

As occurs far too often in the reporting of anti-transgender violence, initial reports also misgendered and misnamed Fantroy in coverage of the crime, delaying HRC’s awareness of her death.

Anti-transgender stigma is exacerbated by callous or disrespectful treatment too often seen from media, law enforcement and our highest elected officials. In the pursuit of greater accuracy and respect, HRC offers guidelines for journalists and others who report on transgender people.

The League of Extraordinary Transgender Women, a local advocacy group in South Florida, is working to spread awareness of the shooting to others in the community. Sahfari Ebony, a member of the League, said that “the story, it broke my heart. I actually was in tears.”

In November, ahead of Transgender Day of Remembrance, HRC Foundation released “A National Epidemic: Fatal Anti-Transgender Violence in America in 2018,” a heartbreaking report honoring the trans people killed and detailing the contributing and motivating factors that lead to this tragic violence.

It is clear that fatal violence disproportionately affects transgender women of color, and that the intersections of racism, transphobia, sexism, biphobia and homophobia conspire to deprive them of necessities to live and thrive.

This epidemic of violence that disproportionately targets transgender people of color — particularly Black transgender women — must cease.

Actor Keith McDermott spills on two of Hollywood’s biggest gay icons

Actor Keith McDermott spills on two of Hollywood’s biggest gay icons

Anthony Perkins

Veteran actor and artist Keith McDermott, known for roles in Without a Trace and in various stage productions, has spilled gossip on two gay icons, Tab Hunter and Anthony Perkins.

In a new interview with Michael Musto for Logo.com, McDermott recounts his early days as a struggling actor in New York theater and a number of the strong personalities that touched him along the way. That includes Hunter, whom McDemott dated for a time.

“I met Tab through Larry Kert [of West Side Story],” McDermott explains. “Then, when I was in Equus, Tab called me out of the blue and said he was coming to New York, and somehow he ended up staying at my house. Thinking back, he obviously had some professional thing to do in New York and was thinking of it as an economic way to stay there. He was nice. He was sexy. He was 50; I was 24.”

McDermott goes on to say that he always had a soft spot for “daddy” types and that he and Hunter remained friends ever after. The same wasn’t true for McDermott and Anthony Perkins, whom the actor describes as “a game player” and self-loathing. McDermott says, “He’d say things to me like, ‘Have you noticed, watching my performance, what I’m doing differently?’ I’d watch over a period of time, then say, ‘I can’t see anything.’ Unlike [Richard] Burton, Tony did the same thing every night. He said, ‘I’m no longer raising my eyebrows anywhere in the play.’ I’d say, ‘Amazing.’ He once said, ‘I’ll get a word for you that can be critical, good or bad, about your performance, and you do the same for me.’ His word for me was poise. He wanted me to do a word for him, and I said unbelievable.

McDermott also describes Perkins as frequently checking out men in the audience, and claims he married a woman so he could have a more “settled” life.  In the same interview, he also dishes on actors like Larry Kert, Maureen Stapleton and Richard Burton, as well as details the reasons for his retirement from acting.
