Thank You Flickr Friends

Thank You For Accepting Me As I Am.

Thank You For Not Acting Like Bigoted Bullies Because I’m Different.

Thank You For Understanding None Of Being Transgender Is Easy For Us And Without The Ability To Truly Be Ourselves In This Way, We Suffer Greatly.

Thank You For Being Respectful.

Thank You For Not Trolling Or Harassing Me As Most Did On Other Platforms Leaving Me To Either Disable Comments Entirely Or Simply Leave. In One Month Here I’ve Not Experienced A Single Comment Left By Anyone Who Can’t Control Their Hatred For Others And That Means A Lot To Me.

Thank You For Being A True Friend, A Real Human, An Adult About This And Understanding Me First And Foremost As A Person, A Photographer / Musician And As Someone Who Has Come Here To Share Their Art Which Means The World To Them… Especially Being A Disabled Person Who Really Needs This Outlet It Provides Me.

Words Can’t Express My Gratitude. ?

.
.

I think i’m just about done adding all the older photographs i will keep online from my portfolio. I’ve removed a few hundred i shot over the last 4 years which i wasn’t nearly as psyched about and have a few more to remove from DeviantArt as i update links to Flickr for larger sized image views as i’ve been doing.

I am happy i’m here and i truly enjoy the time spent chatting with you all, seeing your photographs, meeting and knowing you as fellow creative people. It’s a pleasure to be here and i look forward to more time spent viewing your great photos from around the world daily as i enjoy a short break myself.

I’ll return to shooting new works as soon as sometime next week. The adventure continues…

Much Love From Seattle, Anya

EXCLUSIVE: ‘Relish’ channels a modern, queer ‘Breakfast Club’

EXCLUSIVE: ‘Relish’ channels a modern, queer ‘Breakfast Club’

For anyone needing a bit of drama in the day, look no further than Relish, the forthcoming film from writer/director Justin Ward set to premiere at the Burbank International Film Festival September 6.

Relish focuses on five troubled teenagers: transgender rebel, Kai (Tyler DiChiara), Aspen (Hana Hayes), a social media influencer, Levi (Mateus Ward), a football player addicted to opioids, the bipolar Theo (Rio Mangini) and Sawyer (Chelsea Zhang) an alien-obsessed geek. When the five meet in a rehab center, they plot their escape in hopes of attending the fabled Dreamland Music Fest (think Coachella on LSD…which might be redundant).

Relish confronts the issues facing contemporary young people with humor and honesty. In the tradition of the films of John Hughes, it tells a story of an unlikely friendship with tenderness. It also does what Hughes never would: integrate queer characters and their struggles into a mainstream story.

In the exclusive clip, Kai confronts Aspen about their burgeoning feelings for one another while the five continue on their journey to Dreamfest.

Relish premieres at the Burbank International Film Fest September 6. A nationwide release is pending.

WH PRESS SECRETARY STEPHANIE GRISHAM. Donald Trump never lies: “No. I don’t think they’re lies. . . . I think the president communicates in a way that some people, especially the media, aren’t necessarily comfortable with. A lot of times they take him so literally. I know people will roll their eyes if I say he was just kidding or was speaking in hypotheticals, but sometimes he is. What I’ve learned about him is that he loves this country and he’s not going to lie to this country.”

NEVER LIED. Trump spokesperson Kayleigh McEnany says the president has never lied.

BOTCHED. Woman caught on video breaking into Texas Botox clinic using power saw.

KIRSTEN GILLIBRAND. I’m out of the 2020 race: “I will support whoever the nominee is, and I will do whatever it takes to beat Trump.”

I am so proud of this team and all we’ve accomplished. But I think it’s important to know how you can best serve.

To our supporters: Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. Now, let’s go beat Donald Trump and win back the Senate. pic.twitter.com/xM5NGfgFGT

TEDDY QUINLIVAN. Chanel Beauty hires first transgender model. “My whole life has been a fight. From being bullied at school consistently, kids threatening to kill me and going into graphic detail how they were going to do it, my own father beating me and calling me a fagot, to receiving industry blowback after speaking publicly about being sexually assaulted on the job…”

CHANEL BEAUTY -I find I don’t cry anymore when things are sad, but isn’t it interesting when we shed tears in moments of triumph. This was one of those triumphant cry moments for me. My whole life has been a fight. From being bullied at school consistently, kids threatening to kill me and going into graphic detail how they were going to do it, my own father beating me and calling me a fagot, to receiving industry blowback after speaking publicly about being sexually assaulted on the job… This was a victory that made all of that shit worth it. I had walked 2 shows for Chanel while I was living in stealth ( stealth meaning I hadn’t made my trans identity public yet) and when I came out I knew I’d stop working with some brands, I thought I’d never work with the iconic house of Chanel ever again. But here I am in Chanel Beauty Advertising. I am the first openly trans person to work for the house of Chanel, and I am deeply humbled and proud to represent my community. The world will kick you down, spit on you, and tell you you’re worthless. It’s your job to have the strength to stand up and push on, to keep fighting, Because if you give up then you will never experience the tears of triumph. Thank you to everyone who made this dream a reality! @nicolaskantor @shazmakeup @sebastienrichard1 @casadevallbelen

Save the Date for “Jazz & Friends” 2020

Save the Date for “Jazz & Friends” 2020

As educators get ready for students heading back to school, consider joining HRC’s Welcoming Schools program and the National Education Association for our annual Jazz & Friends National Day of School and Community Readings on February 27, 2020.

“Jazz & Friends is teaching kids about different identities that exist within our community and about how to allow people to be respectful of others’ identities,” Jennifer Herdina, Welcoming Schools lead for the Madison Metropolitan School District, told HRC in an interview. “We’re normalizing these topics and correcting a lot of the stigma and misconceptions that have existed within our communities for a very long time.”

After a national anti-LGBTQ hate group bullied a young transgender girl in rural Wisconsin in 2015, her community rallied behind her by hosting a community reading of “I Am Jazz,” a book co-written by transgender trailblazer and former HRC Youth Ambassador Jazz Jennings about her experience as a transgender girl

Mount Horeb’s unwavering support of transgender youth sparked an annual international movement commemorating their community’s allyship and the resilience of transgender youth.

“With Jazz and Friends and the Welcoming Schools program, we see students feeling more and more comfortable just being their authentic selves,” said Herdina, who attended the first reading in Mount Horeb. “This important message is being spread not only to the kids but to their families as well, who might not know how to talk about being transgender.”

In honor of the original event, each year communities across the country and around the world join HRC and the National Education Association to celebrate gender-expansive youth.

“To hear the impact that a reading has had on even one person makes it all worthwhile,” Herdina continued. “It’s so impactful for me, and I can’t imagine how validating it would feel for someone who is trying to grappling with their identity to see themselves reflected in a classroom lesson and to walk into a school where they can feel and see that kind of inclusivity and love embracing them for who they are.”

Lee Young, an attendee of the 2019 Jazz and Friends reading at the Madison Public Library, described the experience as transformative both for him and for his daughter.

“Since the reading, my daughter has asked many questions. It prompted deeper conversations about gender, and her understanding is far beyond what it was before she read about Jazz,” Lee said in an interview. “Even though my daughter may not remember that day years from now, I know she felt the love in the room and will forever be better for it.”

Registration is now open for the 2019-2020 school year, so don’t wait. Join HRC’s Welcoming Schools program and the National Education Association for our next annual Jazz & Friends National Day of School and Community Readings on February 27, 2020.
