Psyche! 5 people who’ve been caught lying about their identities for attention

This week, model Carissa Pinkston came out as cisgender after lying being transgender.

20-year-old Pinkston initially claimed she was trans last month after past transphobic Facebook posts she wrote surfaced online.

“I wasn’t ready to come out about it yet but today I got fired and I’ve been receiving hate mail and death threats ever since so I’m being forced to tell the truth,” she said. “I’m transgender. I transitioned at a very young age and I’ve lived my life as a female ever since.”

The whole thing was a lie. Pinkston is not transgender. She did not transition at a very young age. And she has always lived her life as a female.

This week, she claimed she “panicked” and thought that if she came out as trans “I could somehow make things better for myself but it appears I’ve only made things worse.”

No sh*t!

Pinkston continued, “I was scared, so I thought they would accept me only if I said I was trans. I got an experience of what a transgender person goes through.”

We’re not sure about that, but we’re pretty sure she’s learned her lesson. We’re also pretty sure she can kiss her modeling career goodbye.

Here are four more people who have been caught lying about their identities for attention…

Rachel Dolezal

Rachel Dolezal pride message

The white-skinned bisexual made headlines in 2015 after it was discovered she had been masquerading as a Black woman for years while serving as president of the NAACP’s chapter in Spokane. In 2017, she published a memoir, In Full Color, claiming that she was “trans-racial.” The book was rejected by over 30 publishers before being printed by BenBella Books and selling less than 500 copies upon its release.

Todd Courser

The antigay Tea Party Republican from Michigan faked his own gay sex scandal in 2015. Leaked audio recordings heard him instructing an aide to send an anonymous email to GOP influencers alleging that was a closeted homosexual and seen hooking up with another man in a dark alley behind a nightclub. It was later revealed that Courser was actually trying to cover up the less-scandalous fact that he was having a heterosexual affair with Rep. Cindy Gamrat, another a married Tea Party state lawmaker. After they were exposed, both resigned from office in disgrace.

Gayle Newland

The 27-year-old was sentenced to six and a half years in prison after she pretended to be a man in order to trick her straight female friend into having sex with her. Newland created a fake online profile for a man named “Kye Fortune” and spent two years cyberdating her BFF before getting her to meet for sex, during which she convinced the friend to remain blindfolded by claiming Fortune was recovering from a brain tumor and didn’t want her to see his face. A jury found Newland guilty of three counts of sexual assault by penetration.

Aaron Carter

The former teen idol made headlines in 2017 when he came out as bisexual in the lead up to his album release. After the album was out and he was done promoting it, he changed his story and said the whole bisexual thing was “misconstrued” and that he’s really only into chicks. Then in 2018, he announced his girlfriend Lina Valentina was pregnant and that he was going to be father. This also proved to be untrue. Then in 2019, he hinted that he had been molested by Michael Jackson as a kid, even though he has previously stated he was not molested by Jackson. Those who are interested in learning more, he said, can read about it in his forthcoming memoir.

Kevin Spacey Startles Museum Crowd with Bizarre Poetry Reading: ‘The More You’re Wounded the Greater You Are’ — WATCH

Kevin Spacey made his first public appearance since sexual assault charges against him were dropped in July because his accuser refused to waive his 5th Amendment rights.

In his most bizarre piece of theater since he challenged the Nantucket sexual assault allegations in a weird video titled “Let Me Be Frank” uploaded to an unverified YouTube account in late December, Spacey treated a museum crowd to a dramatic reading that nobody asked for, after tipping off a few journalists that he would be doing it.

The Telegraph reports: “Spacey appeared in front of the Greek statue Boxer at Rest in Rome, to read Gabriele Tinti’s poem The Boxer, about an exhausted fighter used for entertainment then left bleeding by the ringside. … Standing beside the Greek bronze cast of the ravaged fighter, which dates from around 316 BC, Spacey, dressed in a tobacco-coloured suit, intoned the poem to a startled audience at the Palazzo Massimo alle Terme.”

The poem contains the lines “The more you’re wounded the greater you are. And the more empty you are. I have endured no end of sleepless nights. I have spent hours and hours sweating to destroy and fall,” and “They used me for their entertainment, fed on shoddy stuff. Life was over in a moment.”

In November 2018, an allegation against Spacey by actor Anthony Rapp snowballed into an avalanche of similar accusations including filmmaker Tony Montana, who said that Spacey groped him in public in 2003, and the actor Roberto Cavazos.

That was followed by an as yet unnamed man who claimed Spacey raped him at 15, the aforementioned sexual assault claim from 2017 on the island of Nantucket, and 8 crew members on House of Cards who said they were harassed by Spacey as well as a London bartender who said Spacey flashed him and then tried to shut him up with an expensive watch. Fellow actor Guy Pearce also said Spacey had once been “handsy” with him.

Spacey was subsequently dumped by his agency, CAA, his publicist Polaris, and also by Netflix.

In July 2018, it emerged that London’s Metropolitan Police were investigating three new claims of sexual assault by Spacey. Those investigations are continuing.

This TV show about a gay, TV-obsessed teen could be your next binge watch

An upcoming half-hour HBO Max show titled Drama Queen should be a meta viewing experience for gay TV buffs: According to its logline, the in-development project is a “semi-autobiographical comedy set in the 1980s” centering on “a closeted, TV-obsessed teenager who copes with the harsh realities — and relative mundaneness — of life in small-town New Jersey by escaping to an alternate soap opera universe of his own creation.”

The story is based on the childhood of entertainment journalist Michael Ausiello, who wrote for TV Guide and Entertainment Weekly before founding the website TVLine in 2011. He’s also executive-producing the show and penning the pilot script himself.

“A born couch potato, Michael Ausiello’s earliest memories are rectangular in shape, and, in fact, when he gets bored with one recollection, he reaches for the remote control and switches to another,” his bio reads. “Papa Smurf, J.R. Ewing, Flame Beaufort … these are the personalities that shaped his young mind into what it is today: a steel trap, slightly rusty, but overflowing with knowledge of the tube.”

Meanwhile, Ausiello is also working with Jim Parsons to adapt his memoir, Spoiler Alert: The Hero Dies in the End, for the big screen, per Deadline. The bestselling book chronicles his relationship with husband Kit Cowan, who died of neuroendocrine cancer in 2015.
