Woman shoves mega-famous anti-gay priest offstage in front of 50,000 praying Catholics

During a mass service in São Paulo, Brazil on Sunday afternoon, a woman came onstage and pushed Father Marcelo Rossi offstage. Rossi is an anti-gay priest and one of Brazil’s most famous priests, but her attack doesn’t seem to have anything to do with his anti-gay stances.

Although the attack was humiliating — it occurred on TV and in front of an audience of over 50,000 people — the priest was reportedly unharmed, returned to the stage minutes later and didn’t press charges.

According to various Brazilian media, the unnamed woman drove in from out of town with her three-year-old son and somehow got through security to rush Rossi onstage. She reportedly claims to have bipolar disorder and has given conflicting accounts of her intentions.

An official told Brazilian media:

“She said that she wanted to come in to talk to him and that she was scared the moment she saw the security guards running after her. It’s her version, but anyone who sees the pictures sees that there is none of it [security guards running after her]. She says she got scared and pushed him at a time when she kind of freaked out, lost control, but she had no intention [of hurting him], she just wanted to talk to him.”

Helpful social note: If you “just want to talk” to somebody, don’t shove them off of an elevated platform like this:

Rossi has made numerous anti-gay statements throughout his career. In November 1998, he said, “A lot of ideas will change the day homosexuality is proven to be an illness.” In a 2014 interview, he said, “Sex between man causes pain, if something causes pain, it can’t be a good thing.” He has also opposed same-sex marriage because, “The word of God is clear that man and woman were created to unite and bear fruit.”

Puerto Rico Governor Ricardo Rossello Faces Calls to Resign Over Leaked Group Chat Containing Homophobic, Misogynistic, and Profane Comments

Puerto Rico Governor Ricardo Rossello Faces Calls to Resign Over Leaked Group Chat Containing Homophobic, Misogynistic, and Profane Comments

Ricardo Rossello by Alexom20 (CC BY-SA 4.0)

Puerto Rico Governor Ricardo Rossello is facing calls to resign after conversations from a private chat group administrated by Rossello revealed misogynistic, homophobic, and profane comments.

The group chat, on the messenger app Telegram, include 11 political figures close to Rossello, including Christian Sobrino, the government’s chief financial officer, and Luis Gerardo Rivera Marín, the State secretary and interim governor.

The NYT reports: ‘Mr. Rosselló, 40, apologized on Thursday after an excerpt from the chat was first published by local media showing he had referred to Melissa Mark-Viverito, the former speaker of the New York City Council, who was born in Puerto Rico, using the Spanish word for “whore.” In English, he also used a profane expression in reference to the oversight board that controls Puerto Rico’s finances, followed by emojis of a raised middle finger.’

Among the homophobic remarks were repeated references to Popular Democratic Party senator Eduardo Bhatia using the Spanish word for c**ksucker,’

There were also remarks about Ricky Martin, according to El Nuevo Dia: ‘Sobrino says homophobic comments about singer and actor Ricky Martin. “Nothing says patriarchal oppression like Ricky Martin”, he wrote, later saying, “Ricky Martin is such a male chauvinist that he f**ks men because women don’t measure up. Pure patriarchy.”’

More on the contents of the leaked texts here.

Ricky Martin denounced Rossello after the chat leaked, tweeting ” We CAN NOT allow our Puerto Rico to be in the hands of such ‘leaders.’ … Do an act of true generosity, worth and love for Puerto Rico and give your position to another person with the wisdom and leadership to direct your destiny as a people.”

Trump Triples Down on Attacks on Congresswomen of Color He Told to Go Back Where They Came From

Trump Triples Down on Attacks on Congresswomen of Color He Told to Go Back Where They Came From

Donald Trump on Monday morning doubled down on attacks on four Democratic congresswomen of color — Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rep. Rashida Tlaib, Rep. Ayanna Pressley and Rep. Ilhan Omar — whom he told on Sunday to “go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came.”

When will the Radical Left Congresswomen apologize to our Country, the people of Israel and even to the Office of the President, for the foul language they have used, and the terrible things they have said. So many people are angry at them & their horrible & disgusting actions!

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 15, 2019

Tweeted Trump: “When will the Radical Left Congresswomen apologize to our Country, the people of Israel and even to the Office of the President, for the foul language they have used, and the terrible things they have said. So many people are angry at them & their horrible & disgusting actions!”

….and viciously telling the people of the United States, the greatest and most powerful Nation on earth, how our government is to be run. Why don’t they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came. Then come back and show us how….

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 14, 2019

….it is done. These places need your help badly, you can’t leave fast enough. I’m sure that Nancy Pelosi would be very happy to quickly work out free travel arrangements!

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 14, 2019

Tweeted Trump on Sunday morning: “So interesting to see “Progressive” Democrat Congresswomen, who originally came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe, the worst, most corrupt and inept anywhere in the world (if they even have a functioning government at all), now loudly……….and viciously telling the people of the United States, the greatest and most powerful Nation on earth, how our government is to be run. Why don’t they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came. Then come back and show us how……..it is done. These places need your help badly, you can’t leave fast enough. I’m sure that Nancy Pelosi would be very happy to quickly work out free travel arrangements!”

….and the many terrible things they say about the United States must not be allowed to go unchallenged. If the Democrat Party wants to continue to condone such disgraceful behavior, then we look even more forward to seeing you at the ballot box in 2020!

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 15, 2019

Trump followed with more attacks on Sunday night: “So sad to see the Democrats sticking up for people who speak so badly of our Country and who, in addition, hate Israel with a true and unbridled passion. Whenever confronted, they call their adversaries, including Nancy Pelosi, “RACIST.” Their disgusting language………and the many terrible things they say about the United States must not be allowed to go unchallenged. If the Democrat Party wants to continue to condone such disgraceful behavior, then we look even more forward to seeing you at the ballot box in 2020!”
