Trans man fighting to be listed as father on son’s birth certificate

Trans man fighting to be listed as father on son’s birth certificate

Trans dad and documentary star Freddie McConnell has opened up about his legal fight to be listed as the father on his son’s birth certificate.

McConnell, who lives in the UK, shared his experience of giving birth as a transgender man in the documentary Seahorse (which we covered, along with the philosophical questions it raises, here on Queerty). Per UK law, whoever gives birth to a child is automatically listed as the mother on a birth certificate. McConnell wants to be the first trans dad to successfully challenge that policy, and receive listing as the father.

UK law also holds that cases of this nature keep the participants anonymous. Several UK publications, including The Daily Mail, sued to have the veil of anonymity lifted. A judge agreed, and McConnell has said he will not challenge. The name of his child, however, remains classified. McConnell wants to keep it that way.

“Any parent can relate to that bone-deep urge to just keep your child safe,” McConnell said to BuzzFeedNews. “I thought that we would be anonymous the whole way through because I thought that in these cases anonymity remains in place to protect children involved in the proceedings. That is my primary concern at all times. And that was the basis on which I decided to pursue the action.”

A judge in the case is expected to rule on McConnell’s petition to be listed as the father very soon.

‘What’s Your Ethnicity?’ Kellyanne Conway Questions Reporter While Defending Trump’s Racist Rants: WATCH

White House aide and Hatch Act violator Kellyanne Conway was asked “to what country was Trump referring” when he told four congresswomen of color, all American citizens, to return to their own countries in his racist Twitter rant on Monday.

— Kyle Griffin (@kylegriffin1) July 16, 2019

“What’s your ethnicity?” Conway replied, immediately.

“Why is that relevant to this conver…?” the reporter, Andrew Feinberg, responded.

“I’m asking you a question,” Conway pushed on. “My ancestors are from Ireland and Italy.”

By asking about my ethnicity (a mix of and , I’m told) in response to my question, @KellyannePolls inadvertently confirmed that @realDonaldTrump was telling @IlhanMN, @RashidaTlaib, @AOC, @AyannaPressley to return to Somalia, Gaza, Puerto Rico, and somewhere in Africa. t.co/0egLbFXILk

— Andrew Feinberg (@AndrewFeinberg) July 16, 2019

This was meant with no disrespect.

We are all from somewhere else “originally”. I asked the question to answer the question and volunteered my own ethnicity: Italian and Irish.

Like many, I am proud of my ethnicity, love the USA & grateful to God to be an American t.co/OvBALIO6WP

In a statement, Porowski says: “Tom Ford’s new underwear collection at Neiman Marcus is all about confidence. Feeling confident is something that is really important to me, and I think that starts with feeling comfortable in your own skin. The entire underwear collection is both beautifully designed and functional, which is perfect for me being that I’m constantly on the move or in the kitchen. I’m a classic white brief guy, but admittedly my personal favorite from this collection is the Zebra Silk.”

Biden Jokes That He’ll Challenge Trump to a Push-Up Contest Should He Question His Stamina: WATCH

Joe Biden told MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski that he has what it takes to handle Trump during a debate.

Said Biden on Morning Joe: “I realize that some have concluded that because I didn’t respond very tough back to her that how can I take on Trump? I’ve never had any trouble taking on anyone from Trump to Putin to Xi Jinping to anybody else.”

Asked how he would respond if Trump began attacking his age or his mental fitness, Biden replied, “I’d say, ‘c’mon Donald, c’mon man. How many push-ups do you want to do here, pal?’ I mean, jokingly…’C’mon, run with me, man.’”

“I’m not going to get down in the dirt with him,” Biden continued. “That’s the only place he knows how to fight. I’m just going to continue to talk about what he’s doing, why it’s so damaging to America, and – as my mother would say – I’m not going to take any guff from him.”

People with Disabilities are Crucial in the Fight to Elect a Pro-Equality Majority

People with Disabilities are Crucial in the Fight to Elect a Pro-Equality Majority

It’s the start of National Disability Voter Registration Week. In both presidential and midterm elections, candidates running for office often discuss issues impacting marginalized communities — including LGBTQ people, women, Latinx and African-American people — but often voters with disabilities get left out of this broader conversation.

However, people with disabilities are a formidable voting bloc.

TODAY starts National Disability Voter Registration Week (July 15 – 19)! We are on a mission to ensure every Disabled American has access in the upcoming elections. Spread the word, get registered, & #REVUP t.co/Y6oEdw1B3X #DisabilityVote pic.twitter.com/LEwCz7dgFn

— AAPD (@AAPD) July 15, 2019

In fact, more than 14 million people with disabilities — spanning all disability types and demographic categories including gender, race/ethnicity, age and religion — voted in November 2018. According to TIME, that turnout surpassed the 11.7 million Latinx voters and came close to the 15.2 million Black people who cast ballots last year.

Not many studies have specifically tracked the voting power of LGBTQ people with disablities, but a report from the National Center for Biotechnology Information found that prevalence of disability was higher among lesbian, gay and bisexual adults compared to their straight counterparts. Unfortunately, data surrounding the experiences of transgender and non-binary people living with disabilities was not captured in this study.

People with disabilities are unfairly underserved in the political debate. This is why HRC supports the “For the People Act” (H.R. 1) and the Voting Rights Advancement Act (H.R. 4) that would eliminate barriers to voting for everyone, including people with disabilities.

Now more than ever, we need to harness the power of ALL people and get them to the polls.

Voting is the single most important action you can take to hold our leaders accountable. But you can’t vote if you aren’t registered. Take action and head over to hrc.org/vote to register and check your voter status TODAY.

Professional ‘Gay Footballer’ Tweets That He is Coming Out As Soon As Possible

Professional ‘Gay Footballer’ Tweets That He is Coming Out As Soon As Possible

An anonymous Twitter account claiming to be a closeted professional football (soccer) player in the English Football League announced on Monday that after a meeting with the manager and chairman of his football club, he plans to come out of the closet as soon as possible, prior to the start of the upcoming season in August.

An update following my meeting with the club on Sunday. Thank you to all of you that have shown your support so far pic.twitter.com/yRZrgXG5e6

— The Gay Footballer (@FootballerGay) July 15, 2019

The anonymous Twitter account began tweeting on July 5 that he was preparing to come out of the closet as gay. If true, the player would be the first out gay football player in England.

Tweeted the account: “I’m a professional footballer, playing for a club in the @SkyBetChamp. I will be revealing my identity soon, but I am a proud gay man, hoping to break the mould. I am under the age of 23, and today I came out to my family. Soon, I will come out publicly. … Today I came out to my family. I have hid my sexuality for far too long. My family responded amazingly well, and other than a few close friends, they were the first to know.”

The alleged player said he was meeting with his manager and captain to come out of the closet.

Twitter users naturally expressed skepticism over the legitimacy of the claims. But the user continued to tweet: “A huge % of the interactions I’ve had have been positive. I completely understand the scepticism, but once I’ve gone public, hopefully those sceptics will at least be respectful. Tweets like this however are why this situation has to be handled carefully, for myself and my club.”

The “Gay Footballer” said that he had come out to his manager and chairman in a later tweet, and then teased another meeting on July 14 to discuss “next steps.”

Tweeted the “footballer:” “This afternoon I requested a meeting with both my manager and the club chairman. At this meeting I revealed to both gentlemen that I am a homosexual man, I explained that I had only yesterday come out to my family. I sought advice from both men regarding the fact that I not only want to, but will, come out publicly as a proud, confident gay professional footballer. As it currently stands, once I have taken the time to give full consideration to how and when I am to make it public, a press conference will be organised by the club, with invitations to be made in due course to both local and national press.”

There are currently no openly gay Premier League footballers. In the U.S., Collin Martin, a midfielder for Minnesota United, came out as gay in June 2018, making him the only openly gay professional athlete active in any of the five major sports leagues: MLS, NFL, NHL, NBA, and MLB.
