Retired priest reinvents himself as gay adult film star at age 83, says he’s “having a party!”
Norm Self describes making his adult film debut at age 83 as “splendid.”
The retired clergyman from North Carolina tells The Sun he feels “more vibrant” than ever, because his “erotic energy has taken over” since pivoting from a lifelong career in the church to a late career in adult entertainment two years ago.
So far, 85-year-old Self has appeared in four gay adult films since 2017. And while he hasn’t been paid for his work, he’s really not too concerned about that. Self is mainly in it for the sex.
And to inspire future generations not to feel trapped “in the norm.”
Self, who recently appeared in the documentary “On The Game: The Sex Business,” says his career change happened a few years ago when the person he was living with asked if he would ever consider doing gay porn.
“My housemate asked me if I’d be in a film,” he recalls. “I was invited in and all of a sudden all this attention comes to me.”
“We are going to have sex anyway so why not make it a liberating and bonding experience instead of hiding it away in the shadows?”
Last year, Self, who came out as gay in 1997, told Huffington Post that making his first adult film was simply “delightful,” saying the “best part was just being there and doing it.”
“It was splendid! How could it not be? (I was in) a blessed rural setting, surrounded by a cast and crew of loving, competent, supportive brothers intent on sharing the good news of the healing power of pleasure. What could be more delightful? And, if you’ve seen the video, with the two adorable models performing, what else could be lacking?”
Four films later, he’s still having a blast. Or, as he put it, “having a party.”
When asked by HuffPo what is the biggest misconception about older people and sex, Self replied, “I would speculate that the biggest misconception is that sex ‘wears out’ and isn’t for elders.”
“I would dispute this fabrication by pointing to many elders I know (even older than I am!) who regularly enjoy this sweet intimacy.”

You had gay art and straight kids taking off the shackles of the Eisenhower years. The ’70s was like a flower opening up. There was hedonism. Everything got surprisingly gay: art, music, dance, theater. The ’80s was a terrible shrinkage because the plague got everyone. The ’90s was about recovery. We discovered artists didn’t go into hiding; there were still a few private venues that showed work. We reestablished ourselves. During the new century things were sort of back to normal. This new decade has brought a new audience of people who weren’t even born when the AIDS crisis was here.”

You’ll never guess the queer director replacing Bryan Singer on ‘Red Sonja’
Producers of the upcoming Red Sonja reboot have fired embattled director Bryan Singer and announced his replacement: out-queer director Jill Soloway.
Soloway, best known for creating the show Transparent, came out as non-binary queer in 2017. Prior to their work on the series, Soloway also wrote and produced the acclaimed HBO series Six Feet Under.
Singer landed the job helming Red Sonja despite his firing from Bohemian Rhapsody late in shooting and several allegations of sexual misconduct. Millennium Films, the production company with the rights to Red Sonja, initially stood by Singer, though as more allegations of misconduct surfaced, they removed him from his role.

Soloway’s debut feature Afternoon Delight premiered at the Sundance Film Festival to critical acclaim and nabbed Soloway the coveted Directing Award at the festival. Millennium Films has announced they will take on writing duties as well as directing chores on the big budget action film.
Created by Roy Thomas, Red Sonja spun off from his popular Conan the Barbarian stories and first appeared in Marvel Comics in 1973. After her family is murdered, a goddess bestows incredible fighting skills on Sonja, on the condition that she swear off sex with men unless they defeat her in combat.
The character previously received the cinematic treatment in 1985 with actress Bridgitte Nielsen playing the title role.

Macron praised Elton for his work on AIDS and urged the international community to push harder to end the epidemic, calling on world leaders to donate to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
Said Elton: “Like music, the fight against AIDS has been my passion for many many years. And like music this fight reminds me every day of the extraordinary power of the human spirit. And that things that bind us are stronger than those that divide us. It is this magical human spirit I will carry with me as a proud member of the Legion d’Honneur.”

Longest-married same-sex couple in the U.S. shares their story on the eve of Stonewall 50
When Michael McConnell and Jack Baker were married in 1970, the American Psychiatric Association still considered homosexuality a “mental disorder.” It wasn’t until three years after their union that the APA finally removed it from the official list of disorders.
Of course, same-sex marriage was nowhere close to being legalized. But Jack, who was an aspiring lawyer at the time, was determined. So he found a legal loophole that allowed for the couple to be legally wed.
In 2016, the guys wrote about their incredible story in The Wedding Heard ‘Round The World. Now, on the eve of the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, they sat down with Global News to talk about their 48 years together and what it’s like being the longest-married same-sex couple in the United States at such a historic time during the LGBTQ movement.
