Dallas gay bartender speaks out after being fired for refusing service to trans patron

Last week, Queerty was first LGBTQ news outlet to report on an incident in which JR’s, one of the largest gay bars on Dallas’ gay strip, kicked out a trans female patron for seemingly no reason. Now, after being fired by the bar, the manager who refused to serve and later ejected the trans patron has explained his actions and what has occurred since.

In a public Facebook post, former JR’s manager and bartender Carter Young claimed that the trans patron, Blair Jirousek, had continually presented a fake ID during her visits to the bar over the last three or four years.

Young wrote, “On this latest occasion, I asked for her ID. I inspected it and it appeared fake to me. I asked her for any other ID and she told me that was her only one. I then told her that we would not be able to serve her because the ID seemed fake.”

Young says he didn’t refuse service to her friends, but asked security to eject Jirousek, believing her to be underage.

“At that point, Blair started screaming and hitting the security guard. The security guard then was protecting himself and pushing her outside the front door. Once outside the door, she continued to scream and fight the officer,” Young writes. He says that after Jirousek called the police, police issued her a criminal trespass citation.

Young added, “The police officer explained that the ID could not be confirmed as real or fake — and that Blair had several IDs from different states. Blair left the scene screaming at me and the security officer.”

The next day, after negative reviews flooded JR’s Facebook page, JRs sent a statement to Queerty stating that Young would be fired, the security agency would be contacted and the bar’s remaining employees would all undergo re-training to ensure that such an incident would never occur again.

Young says that the bar’s corporate owners had decided to fire him before he told his side of the story as “a false narrative had already spread like wildfire online.”

“I asked Corporate where the support is from the company where I have worked for more than 21 years,” he wrote. “There was no answer.”

Since then, Young writes, “As I sit here, I wonder how one seemingly normal shift at work snowballed into this hell…. People take to social media in bad faith and others trust what gets posted without hearing all sides. And these days, even news media parrot the ‘content’ instead of vetting it, spreading the false information even farther and increasing the damage.”

We have reached out to Daniel Heredia, the Dallas resident who posted video of Jirousek being kicked out of JR’s, about Young’s claims. We will update our story if he or Jirousek respond.

Vandals Target Gay High School Student’s Home with ‘Kill Yourself’ Graffiti, Forks, and Suicide Hotline ‘For-Sale’ Sign: WATCH

Vandals Target Gay High School Student’s Home with ‘Kill Yourself’ Graffiti, Forks, and Suicide Hotline ‘For-Sale’ Sign: WATCH

A gay high school student’s suburban Chicago home was targeted by vandals who placed a “for-sale sign” against a tree with “a toll-free suicide prevention hotline number, an obscenity and ‘KYS’ — a known acronym for kill yourself,” written on it.

The vandals also stuck several hundred plastic forks in the lawn.

The Daily Herald reports: ‘[Scott] Nelles said his daughter, who will be a Barrington High School junior, was harassed on social media a week earlier for being openly lesbian. He said his family has been gratified by the outpouring support from fellow residents and the diligence of police investigators working the case. Some residents even dropped off items showing their support, including rainbow pinwheels and a heart-shaped balloon. He said the message that was part of the vandalism was most upsetting to him and his wife, Sharon.’

Said Nelles to the paper: “Forks in the yard, that’s like a prank. It sounds to me like it’s today’s toilet paper and, actually, probably a lot easier to clean up than toilet paper. But the fact there was a sign in the yard and it had the suicide prevention hotline and had written ‘Go (expletive) KYS,’ or go kill yourself, that’s a pretty clear message. And a pretty clear message of hate.”

Neighbors have dropped off messages of support to the family, planting rainbow pinwheels and balloons in the yard. Community officials have denounced the hate crime.

CEO Susan Wojcicki Grilled on YouTube’s Treatment of LGBTQ Community: ‘Are You Really Sorry … or Are You Just Sorry They Were Offended?’ — WATCH

CEO Susan Wojcicki Grilled on YouTube’s Treatment of LGBTQ Community: ‘Are You Really Sorry … or Are You Just Sorry They Were Offended?’ — WATCH

At San Francisco’s Code Con conference for hackers and techies on Monday night, YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki was grilled by Axios reporter Ina Fried about the company’s response after reporter Carlos Maza published a series of tweets which exposed a campaign of homophobic and racist harassment against him by right-wing commentator Steven Crowder on the platform.

After first announcing that Crowder’s harassment did not violate YouTube policies, the platform grudgingly made a rule change, but many remain dissatisfied, including Maza.

Said a stumbling Wojcicki: “I’m really personally very sorry. It was not our intent. Our goal was…YouTube has always been a home of so many LGBTQ creators and that’s why it was so emotional and that’s why I think this really…even though it was a hard decision it was made harder that it came from us because we’ve been such an important home, and even though we made this decision which I’m going to get into a little more with your question…but…the same…YouTube…we’ve so many people [on] YouTube from the LGBTQ community, and we’ve always wanted to support the community in spite of this hard issue that we’ve had right now.”

“So I’m just saying people have gotten a lot of criticism, like ‘why did you change your logo to rainbows even though you made this hard decision and that’s because as a company we really want to support this community.,” she continued. “It’s just that from a policy standpoint we need to be consistent because if we, look, if we took down that content there would be so much other content that we would need to take down.”

“Are you really sorry for anything that happened to the LGBTQ community? Or are you just sorry they were offended?”

Wojcicki added: “We don’t want to just be knee-jerk we need to think about it in a very thoughtful way, be able to speak with everyone, we’ll speak to people from the LGBTQ community, make sure we’re incorporating that going forward in terms of how we think about harassment and make sure that we’re implementing that in a fair and consistent way going forward. It was a hard week across the board and I am truly, truly sorry for the hurt that we caused that community. It was not our intention at all. Not that I want to take away from the hurt or the challenge of what happened this week but I do want to let you know that many of the changes that we made in the hate policy which is a different set of policies we think will be really beneficial for the LGBTQ community. And there are a lot of videos there, and a lot of ways that community is attacked where we will be taking down those videos going forward.”

.@YouTube loves gay people when we’re dancing in their Pride videos or feuding with each other over makeup.

But if we want to talk about politics or philosophy or anything interesting, YouTube says we should expect to be harassed.

That’s not allyship. That’s exploitation.

Pride parade 2019

Pride parade 2019

M McBey posted a photo:

Pride parade 2019

Every year the LGBT communities in several countries have a “Pride Parade”. It is to celebrate their individuality and community spirit. The parades attract thousands of spectators.

This was one of a series of pictures that I took at the parade in Sitges, Spain in the summer of 2019.

Sitges is a very popular holiday resort, not far from Barcelona and has managed to retain a lot of it’s older charm unlike many Spanish resorts that have become over-developed. Sitges attracts a wide variety of visitors from all over Europe and beyond.
