LGBT-Themed Play Canceled After Assailants Strike Actors with Stones in Homophobic Hate Crime
A theatre in Southampton, UK canceled a performance of Rotterdam, an Olivier Award-winning play about an LGBT couple, after two of the play’s actors were assaulted in a hate crime in which stones were thrown at them from a moving car.
Lucy Jane Parkinson said they were kissing their girlfriend Rebecca Banatvala, when the attack happened.
Said the play’s producers in a tweet: “Two actors were assaulted today on their way to work at the Nuffield Southampton Theatres. The assailants verbally abused them and threw stones from their car window, one of which struck an actor in the face. They have sustained only minor injuries but are hugely shaken from this cowardly, homophobic hate crime. The Production have requested anyone with relevant information should contact the local police and assist with the enquiry.”
Said one of the assaulted actors: “The attack happened because we were embracing. There’s no mistake that this was a homophobic hate crime. It was a cowardly attack as it was a moving car. Our community shouldn’t have to tolerate this. This is why we have Pride. We should take all steps we can in the education system to help to eradicate this aggressive ignorance from strangers to other strangers.”
They have sustained only minor injuries but are hugely shaken from this cowardly, homophobic hate crime.

The BBC reports: ‘After initially requesting that the police did not take any further action, the couple have since made a report. A Hampshire police spokeswoman said the matter is under investigation and appealed for witnesses. “We have received a report from a third party relating to an incident which happened on Hill Lane, Southampton. “It has been reported that homophobic abuse was shouted at two women, and stones thrown at them, by a the occupants of a passing car,” she said.’

Right-wing provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos has officially been declared grand marshal for Boston’s upcoming “Straight Pride” parade after Brad Pitt threatened to sue organizers for using him to promote the event last week.
“I’ve spent my entire career advocating for the rights of America’s most brutally repressed identity — straight people — so I know a thing or two about discrimination,” Yiannopoulos said in a statement.
The parade is tentatively scheduled for August 31.

Straight “country boy” paints his truck rainbow colors to bring Pride to the Bible Belt
Cody Barlow is a proud “country boy” from Hulbert, Oklahoma (population 590). He recently took to Facebook to show off the new tailgate on his pickup truck that he decorated in rainbow colors for Pride month.
Just to be clear, Barlow isn’t gay. Or bi. Or queer. Or trans. He’s straight. He just wanted to show his support to his LGBTQ brothers and sisters because, hey, why not? It’s Pride month!
“Found a way to show my support for pride month,” Barlow recently wrote on Facebook.
Painted above and below the rainbow are the words: “Not all country boys are bigots. Happy Pride month.”
Barlow explains: “I live in a rural area in Oklahoma, surrounded by small towns in every direction, and I’m sure this is not a very welcome message around here, but this is going to be displayed on my truck for the entire month of June in support of pride month.”
Barlow says he feels it’s important to send a message of love and support “because countless people have dealt with hatred and judgement simply for who they are, and/or who they love, for far too long.”
He adds, “Obviously doing this isn’t going to change the minds of those who are intolerant, but hopefully it can help drown out the hatred with love.”
Barlow says he likes taking his truck down to the river to go fishing or swimming, mudding, or to do other “country” activities.
“It doesn’t matter what negativity I receive for supporting this,” he explains. “I hope that this can help even the slightest bit to encourage and support at least one person that needs it.”
“I hope everyone finds their inner strength to finally live life loud and proud without regard for the negativity of ignorant people.”
