HRC MOURNS MUHLAYSIA BOOKER AND MICHELLE “TAMIKA” WASHINGTON, AMONG THREE BLACK TRANSGENDER WOMEN FATALLY SHOT IN THE PAST WEEK: Washington’s death in Philadelphia occurred just a day after Booker was fatally shot in Dallas, and less than a week after Claire Legato died in Cleveland after being shot. Their deaths bring to five the number of victims of deadly violence against the transgender community in 2019, all of whom were Black transgender women. NEVADA BANS SO-CALLED LGBTQ ‘PANIC DEFENSES’: “These ‘defenses’ send the destructive message that LGBTQ victims are less worthy of justice and their attackers justified in their violence,” HRC Nevada State Director Briana Escamilla (@escamillabriana) told NBC. Nevada is the fourth state to prohibit such “defenses,” following California, Illinois and Rhode Island. More from NBC and Gay Star News.
