“IS THIS THE STATE MISSOURI WANTS TO BE?” — THE KANSAS CITY STAR ON ANTI-LGBTQ ACTIVIST WHO TESTIFIED BEFORE HOUSE COMMITTEE THAT DISCRIMINATION IS OK: The Star’s editorial board, responding to Ron Calzone’s testimony that “we have a God-given right to discriminate,” wrote: “[Calzone’s] testimony was a clarifying moment: In some parts of the state, in some minds, private business signs that say ‘whites only’ or ‘no Irish need apply’ or ‘no women allowed’ are still acceptable, even laudable… The legislature should add gender and sexual orientation protections to state law this year and send the long overdue message that discrimination will not be tolerated in this state.” More from The Kansas City Star.

GLAAD CEO: Trump’s Opposition to Equality Act is a Flip Flop LGBTQ Americans Will Not Forget
Rebuke of the Equality Act marks the 106th time the Trump Administration has attacked LGBTQ Americans in policy and rhetoric
ICYMI from 2000: Donald Trump supported policy similar to the Equality Act
NEW YORK – GLAAD, the world’s largest LGBTQ media advocacy organization, today slammed President Donald Trump and his administration for opposing the Equality Act, which would secure across-the-board protections for more than 13 million LGBTQ Americans at their workplace, in their homes, and across their communities. More than 161 corporate backers support the Equality Act and a majority of Americans in all 50 states and across all major political parties support the idea of cementing nondiscrimination protections for the LGBTQ community. The legislation is expected to receive a vote by the House of Representatives this Friday.
“President Trump’s opposition to the Equality Act, a bill that would protect hard-working Americans against discrimination, shows the unyielding power that anti-LGBTQ activists like the Heritage Foundation have on this Administration,” said Sarah Kate Ellis, President and CEO of GLAAD. “LGBTQ Americans will not forget the President’s politically craven flip-flop on this fair and just legislation, which further cements his Administration’s legacy of being the most anti-LGBTQ government in recent memory.”
In 2000, Donald Trump told The Advocate he supported policy similar to the Equality Act, however, much has changed since he ran and was elected President. Since taking office, the President Trump and his administration have unleashed more than 106 attacks against LGBTQ Americans in policy and rhetoric, all of which could be found on GLAAD’s Trump Accountability Project (TAP) by going to www.glaad.org/trump.

After Dodging, Australian PM Scott Morrison Says He Doesn’t Believe Gay People Are Going To Hell: WATCH
Thanks to Australian rugby star Israel Folau’s recent Instagram posts and pending expulsion from Rugby Australia, reporters are grilling politicians about whether gay people are going to Hell.
Folau’s recent Instagram post asserted that Hell awaits all homosexuals, so Prime Minister Scott Morrison was asked yesterday if he believes the same thing. He dodged.
Said Morrison: “I support the law of the country, and I always don’t mix my religion with politics and my faith with politics. It’s always been something that’s informed how I live my life and how I seek to care for and support others.”
Of same-sex marriage, Morrison said: “It’s law, and I’m glad that the change has now been made and people can get on with their lives, that’s what I’m happy about.”
Morrison’s dodge was seized upon by Opposition Leader Bill Shorten, who said he absolutely didn’t believe gay people are going to Hell: “I don’t need a law to tell me that. I don’t believe it. I think if you want to be prime minister of Australia you’ve got to be prime minister for all people. I just don’t believe it. The nation’s got to stop eating itself in this sort of madness of division and toxicity. The meanest commentary I’ve seen in the election is actually the propositions that are being advanced that gay people are going to go to hell … I can’t believe the Prime Minister has not immediately said that gay people will not go to hell. This country needs to really lift itself and the political debate and coverage needs to really lift itself in the next four days.”
Shorten’s remarks forced Morrison to say he doesn’t think gay people are going to Hell: “No, I do not believe that.”
He later added: “It is not my view that’s the case. My faith is about … God’s love is for everybody. That is what I’ve always believed. I found it very disappointing that without even prompting he sought to try and politicize this. And seek to exploit opportunity for it. I thought that was very disappointing. I don’t think that should have a place in this election campaign. People’s faith are people’s faith. I’m not running for Pope, I’m running for Prime Minister. So, you know, theological questions you can leave at the door.”
