Said Trump: “We got some real beauties. We got a choice between Sleepy Joe and Crazy Bernie. I’ll take any of them, let’s just pick somebody please and let’s start this thing.”
“Pick somebody!” he demanded, looking into the crowd. “We have a young man, Butt-ig-ieg, boot-edge-edge, they say edge–edge,” said Trump.
“He’s got a great chance doesn’t he?” Trump asked dismissively. “He’ll be great. He’ll be great. Representing us against President Xi of China. I want to be in that room, I want to watch that.”
Buttigieg responded to the attack on Thursday, saying, “You can’t get too worried about the name calling and the games he plays. I was thinking of a Chinese proverb that goes, when the wind changes, some people build walls and some people build windmills. You gotta recognize that we need something that is completely different from what is in this White House. The negotiations that they are conducting, whether it’s on trade or things like North Korea, are usually a personal high-wire act with no safety net.”

Seth Owen turned his parents’ rejection into a victory for gay students
After being disowned by parents and having his college fund yanked for coming out as gay, the 18-year-old high school valedictorian still found a way to make his academic dreams a reality.
CHELSEA MANNING. Convicted Wikileaker freed from jail, but faces new subpoena so that may not be for long. “Manning was released Thursday afternoon, after the grand jury’s term expired — but the U.S. Attorney’s office in the Eastern District of Virginia has already subpoenaed her to appear before a new grand jury panel, according to a tweet from Manning’s account.”
MEGAN RAPINOE. Soccer star is first openly gay woman in Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue. “I think it’s really quite a bold statement by Sports Illustrated to be honest because it has been seen as sort of this magazine only for heterosexual males,” Megan said. “I think so often with gayfemales in sports there’s this particular stereotype about it and there’s such a narrow view of what it means to be gay and be athletic.”
STRANGER THINGS. Trump’s messaging on Robert Mueller gets weirder, cloudier: “…Bob Mueller is no friend of mine. I had conflicts with him. We had a business dispute. We had somebody that is in love with James Comey. He liked James Comey. They were very good friends; supposedly, best friends. Maybe not, but supposedly, best friends. You look at the picture file and you see hundreds of pictures of him and Comey.”
STACEY ABRAMS. White House bid still a possibility: ‘In an excerpt from a new interview for “Pod Save America,” Abrams simply replied“yes,” when asked whether she would ever consider joining the crowded pool of candidates. Abrams’ name was previously floated as a possible running mate on former Vice President Joe Biden’s ticket, but Abrams bucked that notion during an interview on “The View,” saying, “You don’t run for second place.”’
MAINE. State senate endorses conversion therapy ban: “The Maine Senate on Thursday gave initial approval to the bill, which received a 91-46 vote in the House on Wednesday. The bill faces more votes in both chambers before it can head to Democratic Gov. Janet Mills’ desk.”
SPACE TECH. Jeff Bezos reveals his Blue Moon lunar lander. “Blue Moon is a flexible lander delivering a wide variety of small, medium and large payloads to the lunar surface. Its capability to provide precise and soft landings will enable a sustained human presence on the Moon.”
Individual photos will be uploaded to Flickr in coming weeks.
I’ll be gone when the morning comes.
When the night is over
Like a bat out of hell
I’ll be gone-gone-gone.
Like a bat out of hell
I’ll be gone when the morning comes.
But when the day is done, and the sun goes down,
And the moonlight’s shining through,
Then like a sinner before the gates of heaven,
I’ll come crawling on back to you.
Pete Buttigieg Commits to Provincetown Campaign Stop in July
Mayor Pete Buttigieg has committed to coming to Provincetown in July at the height of the LGBTQ resort destination’s busy tourist season, but details are still being worked out on what form his campaign event might take.
Realtor Joe DeMartino told WLP: “Mayor Pete’s campaign has committed to coming to Provincetown sometime in July. But there are no details yet.” On Thursday night, Buttigieg sold out a 700-person event at West Hollywood’s The Abbey gay bar. No doubt that a Buttigieg appearance in Ptown in July would generate equal interest.
Wanuri Kahiu’s Kenyan-set love story, ‘Rafiki,’ is breaking boundaries and changing laws
Film Movement
Celebrating the love between two young women living in a country that criminalizes being LGBTQ, Rafiki proves how joy can be an act of resistance. Initially banned in Kenya for its positive portrayal of queer romance, Rafiki won a landmark supreme court case chipping away at Kenyan anti-LGBT legislation.
A court ruling deciding whether to decriminalize homosexuality in Kenya has been postponed until May 24th. What Kenya decides will impact other countries in Africa, which has 33 countries that still criminalize same-sex relationships.
Rafiki is a powerful reminder of the importance of fundamental human rights and, while the U.S. may be a global leader, shows how more work is necessary globally. Now, after winning accolades at film festivals worldwide, Rafiki is rolling out wider on screens in cities throughout the U.S. Upcoming releases this weekend include additional screenings in LA, San Diego, Dallas, Houston, Honolulu, Atlanta, Akron, and more. Bursting with the colorful street style & music of Nairobi’s vibrant youth culture, Rafiki is a must-see LGBTQ film.
The film’s director, Wanuri Kahiu, stopped by GLAAD’s offices recently, to talk about the film and her work to accelerate LGBTQ rights in Kenya. Check out her interview, below:
