Trump Tries Nickname on Pete Buttigieg: ‘Alfred E. Neuman Cannot Become President of the United States’

Donald Trump has apparently chosen his nickname for Pete Buttigieg: Mad magazine mascot Alfred E. Neuman.

Said Trump to Politico: “Alfred E. Neuman cannot become president of the United States.”

Trump made his first public attack on Buttigieg on Wednesday night at a rally in Florida.

Said Trump: “We got some real beauties. We got a choice between Sleepy Joe and Crazy Bernie. I’ll take any of them, let’s just pick somebody please and let’s start this thing.”

“Pick somebody!” he demanded, looking into the crowd. “We have a young man, Butt-ig-ieg, boot-edge-edge, they say edgeedge,” said Trump.

“He’s got a great chance doesn’t he?” Trump asked dismissively. “He’ll be great. He’ll be great. Representing us against President Xi of China. I want to be in that room, I want to watch that.”

Buttigieg responded to the attack on Thursday, saying, “You can’t get too worried about the name calling and the games he plays. I was thinking of a Chinese proverb that goes, when the wind changes, some people build walls and some people build windmills. You gotta recognize that we need something that is completely different from what is in this White House. The negotiations that they are conducting, whether it’s on trade or things like North Korea, are usually a personal high-wire act with no safety net.”

THE EYES OF TAMMY FAYE. Andrew Garfield and Jessica Chastain to play Jim and Tammy Faye Baker in new biopic.

CHELSEA MANNING. Convicted Wikileaker freed from jail, but faces new subpoena so that may not be for long. “Manning was released Thursday afternoon, after the grand jury’s term expired — but the U.S. Attorney’s office in the Eastern District of Virginia has already subpoenaed her to appear before a new grand jury panel, according to a tweet from Manning’s account.”

** Feds released Chelsea a few hours ago after Grand Jury expired – @EDVAnews prosecutors subpoenaed her to appear a 2nd time for a different grand jury – but for same questions – on May 16th – official statement from her pending t.co/BkXDxnrLmZ

MEGAN RAPINOE. Soccer star is first openly gay woman in Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue. “I think it’s really quite a bold statement by Sports Illustrated to be honest because it has been seen as sort of this magazine only for heterosexual males,” Megan said. “I think so often with gay females in sports there’s this particular stereotype about it and there’s such a narrow view of what it means to be gay and be athletic.”

THIS IS QUALITY CONTENT. @mPinoe is the first openly gay Sports Illustrated swimsuit model and fine, I’ll buy the issue. t.co/k84OPN12qZ

STRANGER THINGS. Trump’s messaging on Robert Mueller gets weirder, cloudier: “…Bob Mueller is no friend of mine. I had conflicts with him. We had a business dispute. We had somebody that is in love with James Comey. He liked James Comey. They were very good friends; supposedly, best friends. Maybe not, but supposedly, best friends. You look at the picture file and you see hundreds of pictures of him and Comey.”

ABRAHAM LINCOLN. After a day of Red Sox gaffes, Trump told players that Abraham Lincoln lost the Civil War.

So the Red Sox’s Tom Werner spoke to reporters briefly and said this happened:

Trump “is a pretty good raconteur of history and he did say that, uh—he was talking about Abraham Lincoln losing the war and said ‘Well, I know you guys have lost a game or two, but this was a war.’”

STACEY ABRAMS. White House bid still a possibility: ‘In an excerpt from a new interview for “Pod Save America,” Abrams simply replied“yes,” when asked whether she would ever consider joining the crowded pool of candidates. Abrams’ name was previously floated as a possible running mate on former Vice President Joe Biden’s ticket, but Abrams bucked that notion during an interview on “The View,” saying, “You don’t run for second place.”’

IT’S COMPLICATED. The 90210 reboot.

MAINE. State senate endorses conversion therapy ban: “The Maine Senate on Thursday gave initial approval to the bill, which received a 91-46 vote in the House on Wednesday. The bill faces more votes in both chambers before it can head to Democratic Gov. Janet Mills’ desk.”

A Bat out of Hell

A Bat out of Hell

Julie Bracken posted a video:

A Bat out of Hell

Individual photos will be uploaded to Flickr in coming weeks.

I’ll be gone when the morning comes.
When the night is over
Like a bat out of hell
I’ll be gone-gone-gone.
Like a bat out of hell
I’ll be gone when the morning comes.
But when the day is done, and the sun goes down,
And the moonlight’s shining through,
Then like a sinner before the gates of heaven,
I’ll come crawling on back to you.

Pete Buttigieg Commits to Provincetown Campaign Stop in July

Pete Buttigieg Commits to Provincetown Campaign Stop in July

Mayor Pete Buttigieg has committed to coming to Provincetown in July at the height of the LGBTQ resort destination’s busy tourist season, but details are still being worked out on what form his campaign event might take.

Wicked Local Provincetown spoke with Bryan Rafanelli, a Provincetown homeowner and event planner who hosted a fundraiser for Buttigieg in Boston on April 30. Rafanelli said “It’s on the table. Of course there is a plan for him to come to the place where the first gay marriage license in Massachusetts was issued.”

Realtor Joe DeMartino told WLP: “Mayor Pete’s campaign has committed to coming to Provincetown sometime in July. But there are no details yet.” On Thursday night, Buttigieg sold out a 700-person event at West Hollywood’s The Abbey gay bar. No doubt that a Buttigieg appearance in Ptown in July would generate equal interest.

Wanuri Kahiu’s Kenyan-set love story, ‘Rafiki,’ is breaking boundaries and changing laws

Rafiki

Film Movement

Celebrating the love between two young women living in a country that criminalizes being LGBTQ, Rafiki proves how joy can be an act of resistance. Initially banned in Kenya for its positive portrayal of queer romance, Rafiki won a landmark supreme court case chipping away at Kenyan anti-LGBT legislation.

A court ruling deciding whether to decriminalize homosexuality in Kenya has been postponed until May 24th. What Kenya decides will impact other countries in Africa, which has 33 countries that still criminalize same-sex relationships.

Rafiki is a powerful reminder of the importance of fundamental human rights and, while the U.S. may be a global leader, shows how more work is necessary globally. Now, after winning accolades at film festivals worldwide, Rafiki is rolling out wider on screens in cities throughout the U.S. Upcoming releases this weekend include additional screenings in LA, San Diego, Dallas, Houston, Honolulu, Atlanta, Akron, and more. Bursting with the colorful street style & music of Nairobi’s vibrant youth culture, Rafiki is a must-see LGBTQ film.

The film’s director, Wanuri Kahiu, stopped by GLAAD’s offices recently, to talk about the film and her work to accelerate LGBTQ rights in Kenya. Check out her interview, below:
