ETHAN DVASH-BANKS. U.S. State Department appeals decision granting citizenship to child of gay bi-national couple: “The government refuses to recognize the validity of Andrew and Elad Dvash-Banks’ marriage, and continues to defend its discriminatory policy, which conditions the recognition of birthright citizenship on a biological link to a U.S. citizen parent.” Our earlier report HERE.

MIA. Mike Pompeo and the White House press corps: “The press pool traveling with Pompeo has not been told where they are going next, and have been warned they may not be able to report from the country they are going to until after their departure.”

GILLIBRAND. I’ll only nominate judges that back Roe v. Wade: ‘As a candidate, Donald Trump said he would punish women for accessing abortion, and as president, he’s made good on that promise by stacking the Supreme Court with anti-choice extremists Brett Kavanaugh and Neil Gorsuch. Republicans nationwide push these bills because they want a court ruling that guts abortion access nationwide, forever. We simply cannot let that happen. The decision about if and when to start a family should be made by a woman and her doctor — not Republican legislators, not Brett Kavanaugh and certainly not Donald Trump.’

GEORGE CLOONEY. On Brunei backing down from its death by stoning penalty for gay sex: “This is a huge step forward after a giant leap backwards. It promises that the citizens of Brunei won’t be executed for being gay. It also sends a very crucial message to countries like Indonesia and Malaysia that there is a cost for enacting these laws. And the cost isn’t folks boycotting their hotels. The cost is that corporations and big banks won’t do business with you.”

SHAME. Elizabeth Warren shames Mitch McConnell by reading from the Mueller Report on the Senate floor. “If any other human being in this country had done what’s documented in the Mueller report, they’d be arrested and put in jail,” she said. “The Majority Leader doesn’t want us to consider mountain of evidence against the president. That is wrong.”

WARREN: “That’s over 600 former prosecutors saying that if we were talking about anyone other than POTUS, they’d be prosecuted for obstruction…the only mechanism to hold POTUS accountable & to ensure he’s not above the law is for Congress to initiate impeachment proceedings.” pic.twitter.com/GWPuQbjGZB

KAMP. They wanted camp and the Kardashians came up with this.

DYNASTY. Joan Collins just wanted to go as Alexis again.

UNDER THE BUS. Trump inaugural committee contractor and adviser to Melania disputes account of her departure: “Was I fired? No,” Ms. Winston Wolkoff said in the statement. “Did I personally receive $26 million or $1.6 million? No. Was I thrown under the bus? Yes.”

SANDRA BLAND. New video reveals that Sandra Bland filmed police arrest herself: “Ms. Bland, a 28-year-old African-American from Chicago, was taken into custody in southeast Texas following the confrontational 2015 traffic stop and was found hanging in a jail cell three days later in what was officially ruled a suicide. The case, which drew international attention, intensified outrage over the treatment of black people by white police officers and was considered a turning point in the Black Lives Matter movement.”

NEGLECT. Migrant children in U.S. custody are facing a horrific reality.

TENNESSEE. House Speaker Glen Casada won’t resign after being caught up in scandal with former chief of staff. “I was wrong,” he said, adding he has not participated in similar talk in recent years. “I got caught up in the moment.”

BILL DE BLASIO. Holding off on 2020 announcement: “It’s not the night, no,” de Blasio said on NY1 when host Errol Louis asked if he planned on breaking the news. “And not the week.”

BUCKLEY ON BUTTIGIEG. Former Democratic party chair on Mayor Pete’s candidacy: “As we move forward, what is fascinating about this year is that while in theory people support marriage equality, you’re seeing it with Chasten [Mr. Buttigieg’s husband] and Pete. And the visual from last weekend — for it to be absolutely normal as the spouse to come out, hug, embrace, kiss, hold hands — for the generation over 30, that was an amazing thing to witness. I talked to some folks in New Hampshire who are in their 20s, and it was nothing to them. Because their adult life has been marriage equality. They can’t imagine the sort of sense that we all felt. But there was still a tremendous sense of progress and pride with that picture.”

AUSTRALIA. Prime Minister Scott Morrison got hit with an egg that didn’t break, and then an older lady got knocked over. ‘The incident happened when Morrison met with delegates from the Country Women’s Association in Albury in order to drum up support ahead of the country’s general election.’

We will stand up to thuggery whether it’s these cowardly activists who have no respect for anyone, or militant unionists standing over small businesses and their employees on work sites.

NEW EYES. Adam Lambert announces new single. “I’m back in my power.”

REAL ESTATE. Scotty Bowers house up for sale: “The Hollywood Grove home was once owned by Scotty Bowers, who originally purchased it with proceeds from a prostitution and pimping business which counted the likes of Cary Grant and Rock Hudson among its clients.”

A LITTLE SH*T. Find out what happened when Taron Egerton tried to raid Elton’s fridge.

TENNIS TUESDAY. Wicomeva.

At the 30th Annual GLAAD Media Awards in New York, Olympian Adam Rippon and new A Little Late host Lilly Singh presented Samantha Bee with the award for Outstanding Variety or Talk Show Episode for the Full Frontal with Samantha Bee episode, “Trans Rights Under Attack.”

Bee’s funny but poignant speech included: “All people deserve equal rights, whether it’s the right to use a bathroom in North Carolina, the right of a gay couple to buy a wedding cake in Colorado, or the right of the Vice President to be married to a woman who is both his wife and his mother.” Bee ended her speech saying, “Thank you for this award and I pledge to never let Mike Pence touch it.”

Samantha Bee also invited show writer Nicole Silverberg to share a few words, in which she highlighted the importance of speaking about trans issues on television: “There is a legacy of discrimination. Trans people experience disproportionate homelessness, lack of health care, sexual violence. The lifespan for a black trans women is 35 years old. And I am just so glad that we get to speak about this on television.” She continued, “We also have a responsibility to infuse these older industries in media with trans creativity.”

Former Daily Show correspondent Samantha Bee’s late-night and news satire program Full Frontal With Samantha Bee, is a progressive and Emmy award winning show on TBS. With a diverse writing team (about half female and 30% non-white) Bee uses her platform to address social issues in a funny, yet poignant manner.

In the episode, “Trans Rights Under Attack,” Bee recounts Donald Trump’s measures to strip away the rights of the trans community, and sheds a light on all of the ways in which this administration has rolled back trans rights across the board. Bee also uses the segment to explain the difference between sex and gender, Bee ends her segment with a call-to-action, asking her audience to stand with trans people in the face of adversity.

The other nominees in this category included “Mike Pence and ‘A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo'” from Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, “NRA Problems, Chicken Bone Problems, Birmingham Problems” from Wyatt Cenac’s Problem Areas, “Troye Sivan Hopes ‘Boy Erased’ Reaches All Parents” from The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and “Valedictorian Seth Owen” from The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

Rachel Maddow Explains Why the White House is So Terrified by Don McGahn’s Testimony That They Just Ordered Him to Defy a House Subpoena: WATCH

Former White House Counsel Don McGahn on Tuesday was ordered by the current White House counsel to not comply with a subpoena from the House Judiciary Committee in the Trump administration’s latest attempt to obstruct justice.

— NBC News (@NBCNews) May 7, 2019

On Monday night, Rachel Maddow outlined why Trump is terrified of McGahn’s possible testimony, because not only was McGahn cited more than 150 times in the Mueller Report, but there are “three dozen discrete categories of information that Don McGahn is supposed to produce documents about.”

Said Maddow: “Don McGahn is being told to hand over just, for example, any documents or communications about [former Attorney General] Jeff Sessions being recused from the Russia investigation and any other matters arising from the presidential campaign in 2016, [and] any documents or communications he had about any efforts to reverse or attempt to reverse Jeff Sessions’ recusal from such matters.”

McGahn is also being asked for documents related to “the subject of investigating James Comey or Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton [and on] presidential pardons, whether possible or actual for Paul Manafort, Michael Flynn, Michael Cohen, Rick Gates, Roger Stone, individuals associated with the Trump campaign, or individuals involved in matters before the U.S. Attorney’s office for the Southern District of New York.”

HRC’S ROB HILL CALLS FOR MISSISSIPPI’S HATE CRIMES LAW TO INCLUDE LGBTQ PEOPLE: “Under state hate crimes law, Mississippians are not protected on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability. Mississippi lawmakers this year had a chance to step up and take action,” writes Hill (@RCH74), HRC Mississippi State Director. “But Mississippi Senate and House leadership refused to bring these bills up for a vote. The politicians who refuse to act to protect us are playing politics with people’s lives.” Read the op-ed from the Clarion Ledger.

With hate-fueled attacks on the rise, it’s time for all states to update their hate crime laws to protect LGBTQ people. Important piece in the @clarionledger from @HRC‘s Rob Hill: t.co/Lntt4o6bbq

BUSINESS LEADERS CONTINUE TO OPPOSE TX “LICENSE TO DISCRIMINATE” LEGISLATION: The Texas legislature has proposed at least 23 anti-LGBTQ bills that seek to discriminate against LGBTQ Texans and their families. Lawmakers in Texas need to listen to the will of the people and the business community by standing strong against Dan Patrick’s attempts to attack LGBTQ Texans. Read more from NPR.

  • HRC volunteers have made nearly 2,000 calls and sent 3,000 texts urging Texans to join the fight against the anti-LGBTQ bills. More from HRC.

TUESDAY TWEET — DENYING TRANS STUDENTS USE OF CORRECT RESTROOMS PUTS THEM AT GREATER RISK OF SEXUAL ASSAULT: “Bathroom restrictions may make peers aware of the teens’ status as a gender minority, the authors explain, which may in turn make them more likely to become victims of abuse. The policies may also be indicators of a hostile school environment,” writes CNN’s Dr. Edith Bracho Sanchez (@DoctoraEdith). Read more from CNN.
