JOE BIDEN. Former vice president Joe Biden appeared on The View in his first appearance since launching his campaign and touched on his age (“It’s a legitimate question to ask about my age… If [Trump] looks young and vibrant compared to me, I should probably go home.”) , the inappropriate touching allegations, and Anita Hill: “I’m sorry she was treated the way she was treated.”

HACKED MATERIALS. Trump’s reelections campaign won’t say it won’t use them: “Trump campaign representatives did not respond to several inquiries this week seeking its policy on purloined material, nor did White House officials. Their silence has fueled concerns about the integrity of the 2020 election, which escalated after Trump’s personal attorney suggested that using stolen items might be appropriate.”

CHICKENDALES. KFC answers the question, where’s the beef?

MARIIA BUTINA. Russian agent gets 18 months in prison: “A Russian who infiltrated the National Rifle Association and tried to get Donald Trump to meet with a Kremlin-linked official during the 2016 election was sentenced Friday to 18 months in prison. Mariia Butina, a gun-rights promoter and graduate student in America, has been in jail since her arrest last July on charges of operating as an unregistered foreign agent and conspiracy.”

NOT SURPRISING. This celeb was the first to call Mark Consuelos “daddy.”

ON THE RAG. This week on the gay magazines.

SLEEPY JOE. Trump makes hits on his 2020 rivals: ‘He suggested Sanders had “misguided energy” and “talks a lot, but doesn’t get it done.” The president also claimed O’Rourke’s popularity was “a fluke” and that Harris has “a little bit of a nasty wit.” Buttigieg, meanwhile, was “not going to make it,” although Trump did say he was “rooting” for Mayor Pete to do well.’

INDIVISIBLE. Bernie Sanders is first candidate to sign pledge to back Democratic nominee: ‘National progressive outfit Indivisible on Thursday launched a pledgecompelling all 2020 Democratic presidential candidates to rally behind the eventual nominee. Bernie Sanders was the first to sign it, the group revealed. The “We Are Indivisible” pledge asks for three commitments from him and any other prospective signers, as first reported by BuzzFeed News. First, Indivisible’s pledge requests that candidates “make the primary constructive” by outlining their visions while respecting their opponents.’

FEELING BETTER. Britney Spears leaves mental health facility.

YOU’RE SO VAIN. Is Jake Gyllenhaal a serial portrait framer? “Jake Gyllenhaal comes in all the time and I’ve never framed something for him that’s not a picture of himself.”

THE LOONIE. More on Canada’s new gay coin.

NEW TUNE OF THE DAY. Bastille “Doom Days”.

MUSIC VIDEO OF THE DAY. Lauv “Drugs and the Internet”.

HRC and TomboyX Celebrate Inclusivity with a New Line of HRC-Branded TomboyX Underwear

HRC and TomboyX Celebrate Inclusivity with a New Line of HRC-Branded TomboyX Underwear

Post submitted by Riley Galligan, HRC Consumer Marketing Assistant

HRC is proud to work with TomboyX to introduce a new line of HRC branded TomboyX underwear to ensure that everyone can feel comfortable throughout the day. HRC reached out to TomboyX for this project because of TomboyX’s mission to promote self love and acceptance and the company’s gender neutral underwear that exists for all people — no matter their gender identity or expression.

“There’s so much divisiveness and negativity in the world that we want to be a brand that wasn’t about trying to show you how to be cool but, rather, celebrates how cool you already are,” said Fran Dunaway, TomboyX CEO and founder.

Launched in 2013, TomboyX is a women-owned business and was featured as one of Seattle’s fasted growing minority-led businesses. During all steps of the line creation, HRC actively worked to ensure representation and inclusion, from the styles offered (6” boxer briefs, 4.5” boxer briefs and boy shorts) to the models featured in advertising. The models shown in the promotions are everyday people, including neighbors and friends of HRC. These gender-neutral underwear have also been fit tested to ensure that they are a no-fuss cut that won’t ride up.

Exclusively available on shop.hrc.org and in HRC brick-and-mortar stores, there are three different styles of gender-neutral underwear. The prices range from $30 – $34 and feature the iconic HRC equal sign along the hip and upper thigh. The pairs all are made of 95% cotton and 5% spandex, with  the signature TomboyX stay-put waistband that will not bind or ride up.

HRC is proud to work with TomboyX and support minority-led companies in the fight for inclusivity. To get your own pair, visit shop.hrc.org now.

Celebrate Lesbian Visibility Day with Two Women Finding Their Happily Ever After in Maiden & Princess

Celebrate Lesbian Visibility Day with Two Women Finding Their Happily Ever After in Maiden & Princess

ILLUSTRATION BY BECCA HUMAN AND PROVIDED BY LITTLE BEE BOOKS/BONNIER PUBLISHING USA

Who better to celebrate Lesbian Visibility Day with than a maiden and princess who are in love? Written by Daniel Haack and Isabel Galupo, Maiden & Princess tells the story of a maiden sent to a royal ball to fall in love with a prince, but it is instead the princess who catches her eye. A diverse love story between two strong and skilled women, Maiden & Princess promotes acceptance to its young audience.

Published as a part of GLAAD’s partnership with little bee books (previously known as Bonnier Publishing), Maiden & Princess continues GLAAD’s initiative to further LGBTQ images in Kids & Family Entertainment. As part of this initiative, the “Outstanding Kids & Family” Category was added to the GLAAD Media Awards last year, and last month, Steven Universe became the second ever winner in that category. The release of Maiden & Princess is another step forward in this initiative. As GLAAD President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis said, “Children’s books are essential tools in encouraging awareness, kindness, and acceptance at an early age. GLAAD is committed to advancing positive representation of LGBTQ lives, experiences, and stories, and the release of Maiden & Princess is a shining example of how we can help to accelerate acceptance among young audiences.”

Maiden & Princess is a modern fairy tale meant to help accelerate acceptance for LGBTQ people. Co-author @igalupo will be reading the book at the LA Times Festival of Books tomorrow: t.co/GJcU2SvI75

Released in 2018, the first book of the GLAAD and little bee books partnership is Prince & Knight, which was also written by Haack. Prince & Knight follows the heartwarming story of a prince and a knight fall in love after slaying a dragon. Haack insists that both of these books exist in the same universe, and you may just spot the happy prince and his knight in Maiden & Princess. Though Haack was able to draw from his own life experiences as a gay man for Prince & Knight, he turned to co-writer Isabel Galupo, a queer woman, for her perspective for Maiden & Princess. In an interview with HuffPost, Galupo remarked that “love is the very thing that unites every single one of us. I hope most parents would emphasize the beauty of love, no matter what form it takes.”

Speaking on the impact he hopes the book will have, Haack added, “kids are remarkably accepting and understanding. For children who don’t have any same-sex couples in their lives, these books can be a great way to start those conversations … or maybe your kid will just think the dragons are cool or will like the pretty dresses.” Nonetheless, the book will no doubt touch many lives and continue GLAAD’s mission to accelerate acceptance.

Written by Erica Silverman and illustrated by Holly Hatam, Jack (Not Jackie) is the second book of the series, released in October 2018. The story follows how big sister Susan learns to understand and accept that her younger sibling identifies as “Jack” rather than “Jackie.”

Maiden & Princess launched on April 2nd and can be purchased on Amazon, Goodreads, and in stores wherever books are sold.

Brazil President Jair Bolsonaro: ‘We Can’t Let Brazil Become a Gay Tourism Paradise. We Have Families’

Brazil President Jair Bolsonaro: ‘We Can’t Let Brazil Become a Gay Tourism Paradise. We Have Families’

Jair Bolsonaro

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has dropped his latest anti-LGBTQ bomb.

Bolsonaro told reporters at a breakfast meeting: “If you want to come here and have sex with a woman, go for your life. But we can’t let this place become known as a gay tourism paradise. Brazil can’t be a country of the gay world, of gay tourism. We have families.”

LGBTQ advocates immediately blasted the remarks.

Federal Deputy David Miranda said: “This is not a head of state – this is a national disgrace. He is staining the image of our country in every imaginable way.”

In March, Bolsonaro tweeted a video of two men on a platform performing a public sex act as a response to criticism of his administration during this year’s Carnival. Bolsonaro also plans to eliminate all LGBTQ content from schools. And his government has wasted no time resurrecting bills banning gay marriage.

Bolsonaro recently stood next to Donald Trump at the White House and said the U.S. and Brazil stood “side by side” to reject LGBTQ rights.

Said Bolsonaro (via translator) at the Trump meeting: “In conclusion, may I say that Brazil and the United States stand side-by-side in their efforts to ensure liberties and respect the traditional family lifestyles and respect to God, our creator, against the gender ideology and the politically correct attitudes and against fake news.”

Jean Wyllys, the gay congressman who recently fled the country because of death threats, blasted Bolsonaro in a video posted to Twitter: “With this unhappy declaration and this unhappy gesture against the LGBT community, Bolsonaro is simply being Bolsonaro.”
