Mark Geragos Tells Anderson Cooper That Jussie Smollett is Victim of ‘a Media Gangbang of Unprecedented Proportions’ — WATCH
Anderson Cooper spoke with Jussie Smollett’s attorney Mark Geragos about the 16-count felony indictment against the Empire actor for staging a hate crime. Smollett will appear in court on March 14 where he will enter a plea and a judge will be assigned to the case.
Said Geragos: “This is an outrage….I defy anybody to find any indictment anywhere where somebody has brought 16 counts for being a victim of a hate crime, basically.”
“They have not talked to one person at Fox who has said he was dissatisfied with his money,” Geragos continued. “They have not interviewed one person connected with the show Empire who says he was dissatisfied with his money. They are the ones who started their internal investigation about the leaks because all of the information that was being leaked was false.”
Added Geragos: “What is happening here is frankly a media gangbang of this guy of unprecedented proportions. And that’s the reason I got into this. I’ve never seen a media pendulum swing more quickly and more viciously and rob somebody of their presumption of innocence like this case. It’s startling the way people assume that he’s guilty. He hasn’t been given one stitch of discovery. There isn’t one police report. Your package just said he paid $3,500. I’ve got the texts. Those texts––and they conceded that the check and the texts were for training. It wasn’t to pay anything! So I don’t understand where any of this comes from.”
Anderson then asked why the brothers would do such a thing: “Doesn’t it just seem weird to you that you get allegedly attacked by two people who you know and you don’t seem to recognize them, even you claimed you fought back and they ran away, and — I believe initially Mr. Smollett said one of them was white, or they were white — Isn’t it just weird that you get allegedly attacked by two people you actually know that have been on Empire that, who you have actually worked out with, and you don’t recognize them?”
“Yes,” replied Geragos. “I don’t know whether he made that statement but what I do know is that when he was told that they had evidence against these two he refused to sign the complaint because he could not believe it.”
Added Geragos: “I haven’t seen one piece of evidence and they don’t have one piece of evidence that they’ve turned over that links Jussie to this. What they do have is a great case against the two brothers….What do they have besides their word that he is in on this.”

High School Students Circulated ‘Gay List’ Online, Naming 100 Classmates as ‘The Biggest F*gs’ — WATCH
Three Vancouver high school seniors have been suspended after creating a so-called “gay list” (the actual name of the list used a homophobic slur) of 100 classmates at Eric Hamber Secondary School and circulated the private Google doc online, sharing it to Snapchat as well.
News 1130 reports: ‘NEWS 1130 spoke with the sister of an Eric Hamber student who posted about the list on Facebook. While she didn’t want her name on the record she confirmed the list was published in a Google Doc, with 100 names of Grade 12 students. She remembers the title including something along the lines of “The biggest F**s at Eric Hamber.” She added that she doesn’t believe the list authors were trying to out anyone, rather that they were using homophobic slurs to stigmatize both gay and straight students, something she says made her angry as soon as she learned about it.’
CTV adds: ‘”A list of members of the school community, containing inappropriate content, was circulated,” the board told CTV News in an email. “As the matter is further assessed, appropriate disciplinary actions will be taken in addition to ensuring students and staff receive the supports they need.” Public schools across the city are committed to a “safe, inclusive, equitable and welcoming learning and working environment,” the VSB added.
The day after the list was shared, some students put up rainbow flags in school hallways, according to one student.

Jussie Smollett Indicted on 16 Felony Counts for Staging False Hate Crime: WATCH
Empire actor Jussie Smollett was indicted on 16 felony counts of disorderly conduct late Thursday. He is set to appear in court on March 14 where he will enter a plea and a judge will be assigned to the case.

“The specific allegations–“false report of offense”– are Class 4 felonies,” CBS Chicago reports. “The indictment expands the case against the actor. The counts focus on allegedly false statements he made to two different Chicago Police officers. Each count covers various alleged acts that Smollett falsely described to the officers–including that he was hit by two men, that they yelled racial and homophobic slurs and poured a chemical on him.”
“A conviction on any count could lead to a sentence ranging from probation to up to three years in prison,” the Chicago Tribune reports.
The Tribune adds: ‘Smollett, who is African-American and openly gay, has said he was walking from a Subway sandwich shop to his apartment in the 300 block of East North Water Street around 2 a.m. Jan. 29 when two men walked up, yelled racial and homophobic slurs, hit him and wrapped a noose around his neck. Smollett said they also yelled, “This is MAGA country,” referring to President Donald Trump’s campaign slogan of “Make America Great Again.”’

At a press conference on February 21, Chicago Police Chief Eddie Johnson reported that Smollett had turned himself in after testimony from two brothers, Abel and Ola Osundairo, who said that Smollett had paid them to stage the attack.
Speaking of the hoax attack, Johnson said, “‘Empire’ actor Jussie Smollett took advantage of the pain and anger of racism to promote his career.”
Johnson said “This stunt was orchestrated by Smollett because he was dissatisfied with his salary, so he concocted a story about being attacked.”
Said Johnson: “I’m left hanging my head and asking why. Why would anyone, especially an African-American man, use the symbolism of a noose to make false accusations?”
Added Johnson: “Bogus police reports cause real harm. They do harm to every legitimate victim who’s in need of support by police and investigators.”
“I’m also concerned about what this means moving forward for hate crimes,” said Johnson. “My concern is that hate crimes will now publicly be met with a level of skepticism that previously didn’t happen.”
