AOC SCARES Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s financial plan pisses off the one percent

THREES A CROWD Liam Hemsworth & Miley Cyrus are throupling with Rebel Wilson for Valentine’s Day. “The 38-year-old Pitch Perfect star and the 29-year-old The Dressmaker actor visited Good Morning America on Friday (February 8) in New York City to promote their new rom-com Isn’t It Romantic. During the appearance, Liam confirmed that Miley extended the invite for Rebelto crash their first Valentine’s Day date as a married couple.“I think she should’ve asked Liambefore,” Rebel laughed. “If I get desperate, great option.”

“I’m all for it,” Liam chimed in. “Absolutely.”

REST IN PEACE Legendary actor Albert Finney has died. He was 82. Albert Finney’s publicist said in a statement that he died yesterday of a chest infection at the Royal Marsden hospital. He was diagnosed with kidney cancer in 2011. His wife Pene and son Simon were with him when he went off to the great beyond.

DListed said of the actor: “A true thespian, Finney graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts. He became a star in 1963’s Tom Jones, which got him his first Oscar nomination. He was offered the title role in Lawrence of Arabia, but turned it down, because he was not about to sign a multi-movie deal with its producer. Most younger folks will recognize Finney from his role in the Matt Damon Jason Bourne movies. In the 70s, he starred as Scrooge in Scrooge and Hercule Poirot in Murder on the Orient Express(which got him his second Oscar nom). Albert Finney didn’t like to be tied down (see: the reason why he turned down Lawrence of Arabia), so he refused to play Poirot in more movies. Instead he did The Dresser (which got him his third Oscar nom), Under the Volcano (which got him his fourth Oscar nom), and Annie, which should’ve gotten him an Oscar win, but those dumb tricks didn’t even nominate him for that. From the 80s until 2012, he was also in OrphansMiller’s Crossing, Breakfast of Champions, Erin Brockovich (and he got his final Oscar nom for that), Traffic, Big Fish, and Corpse Bride.”

RIP Albert Finney.. I had the honor to work with and photograph this extraordinary man in 1991. We both stayed in the same hotel in Charleston and would go out to dinner once a week. The stories he told were amazing and his friendship and generosity will be forever with me. LIFE HACKS Here’s some tips to make life easier.

FRIDAY FUNNY Shrinkage happens.

KARMA’S A BITCH Brazil president Jair Bolsonaro has been hospitalized with pneumonia. Bolsonaro is being treated for pneumonia, after coming down with a fever on Wednesday, the Albert Einstein hospital in Sao Paulo has said according to The Guardian.

Bolsonaro recently had a follow-up operation to remove a colostomy bag that was put in place after he was stabbed while campaigning ahead of Brazil’s election last year.

The Albert Einstein hospital said in a statement on Thursday it had carried out tests on Bolsonaro.

THE SOUNDS OF SPIDER Spider-Verse Star Shameik Moore hopes to record a song for the movie’s sequel according to Heat Vision at The Hollywood Reporter. On Jan. 12, Shameik Moore woke up to a flood of congratulatory messages. The night before on The Tonight Show, Michael B. Jordan had read a text the actor had sent him and cited Moore as “the next generation” of young talent to host Jimmy Fallon. That’s just one swirl of the whirlwind that Moore has experienced in the wake of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which has scored $339 million at the global box office, won the Golden Globe for animated film and is nominated for best animated feature at the Oscars.

REAL LIFE SUPER HERO Gus Kenworthy makes the cover of HIV Plus Magazine for his pledge to raise $1 Million for LifeCycle/AIDS.

Here’s an excerpt: Kenworthy’s now using his fame to combat HIV and the stigma that remains around the virus. Part of the reason why young people (ages 13 to 24) make up nearly a quarter of all new HIV diagnoses, Kenworthy says, is because “there is a lack of education and stigma that still exists around HIV.”

To help change that, Kenworthy recently announced his planned participation in AIDS/LifeCycle 2019, pledging to raise $1 million to fight HIV. This June 2–9, the Olympian will join over 2,000 cyclists on a seven-day, 545-mile trip from San Francisco to Los Angeles.

He’ll be cycling at a time when most (81 percent) of the youth newly diagnosed with HIV are gay and bisexual. “I think the younger generation was spared from experiencing a time when a diagnosis meant a death sentence, but we still have a long way to go,” he says. “We need to continue to speak up for the cause and teach young people how to protect themselves — that’s part of the reason I am doing the AIDS/LifeCycle ride.”

SPACE COPS Comic-book superstar writer Grant Morrison’s new DC Comic’s series The Green Lantern is the bee’s knees.

#FBF To a few things John Mulaney is excited about from 2010. In his segment, “I Love It”, John Mulaney gives a positive spin on news such as AOL buying Yahoo, animals not knowing they’re in movies, his dad only wearing Rockport shoes and the eating habits on Mad Men. [Season 36, 2010].

Ronan Farrow: I Too Was Threatened with Blackmail by AMI Over Stories About Trump

Ronan Farrow: I Too Was Threatened with Blackmail by AMI Over Stories About Trump

Journalist Ronan Farrow has revealed that he too was subjected to blackmail threats from AMI over stories about Trump’s relationship with the National Enquirer publisher.

Farrow tweeted a response to Amazon CEO and Washington Post owner Jeff Bezos, who Thursday published a piece detailing threats that had been made against him by the publisher.

Tweeted Farrow: ‘I and at least one other prominent journalist involved in breaking stories about the National Enquirer’s arrangement with Trump fielded similar “stop digging or we’ll ruin you” blackmail efforts from AMI. (I did not engage as I don’t cut deals with subjects of ongoing reporting.)’

— Ronan Farrow (@RonanFarrow) February 8, 2019

Farrow’s tweet prompted a reply from Ted Bridis, a former AP editor, who wrote: “We were warned explicitly by insiders that AMI had hired private investigators to dig into backgrounds of @AP journalists looking into the tabloid’s efforts on behalf of Trump. Never saw evidence of this either way, and it didn’t stop our reporting.”

Farrow followed up with these tweets:

In light of Bezos’s claims, worth returning to this story we did at @NewYorker, breaking the news that the same Enquirer editor Bezos dealt with was also behind a secret collaboration with Harvey Weinstein to dig up dirt on accusers: t.co/lPJM0cPc5n pic.twitter.com/D6jxc88zDl

Supermom Has Transgender Reveal Party For Her Son

Supermom Has Transgender Reveal Party For Her Son

Gender reveal parties have become the obnoxious new celebration among heteronormative couples–so it’s cool to see a loving mom do a transgender reveal party for her son in a series of Facebook posts that have gone viral over the past week.

Adrian Brown, middle, with brother Lucas, left, and their mother, Heather Lundberg Green. via Facebook.

Adrian Brown’s mom must be from Krypton.

His supermom’s name is Heather Lundberg Green and she would do anything for her trans son.

This supermom praised her transgender son’s coming out with “It’s a boy” photo shoot.

Green was so extra for her son’s 20th birthday photo.

Your son only comes out as transgender once, after all.

Green’s photo shoot – which was themed as a baby gender reveal with blue balloons, glitter, “It’s a boy” messaging and a faux pregnant tummy to show she was gaining another son – is the ultimate show of support a trans kid can get from a parent.

University of Iowa Christian Group Can Discriminate Against Gay Student Says Federal Judge

University of Iowa Christian Group Can Discriminate Against Gay Student Says Federal Judge

A federal judge ruled that the University of Iowa cannot take away a Christian student group’s registered status after it prohibited a gay student from a leadership role according to The Hill.

U.S. District Judge Stephanie M. Rose granted a permanent injunction forcing the university to recognize Business Leaders in Christ as a registered student organization.

“Particularly when free speech is involved, the uneven application of any policy risks the most exacting standard of judicial scrutiny, which the defendants have failed to withstand,” NBC News said.

The university claimed that the group violated its human rights policy by blocking a gay student from holding a leadership position.

In her ruling, Rose said the university “didn’t enforce its policy equally by allowing other groups to limit membership based on protected characteristics, including race, gender and religion.”

Business Leaders in Christ member Jake Estell said the group is happy with the outcome he told NBC.

“This victory reinforces the commonsense idea that universities can’t target religious groups for being religious,” he said.

The University of Iowa said that officials are reviewing the ruling and will follow the court order in a statement.

“The university has maintained the registered status of all religious and faith-based groups allowing them full access to all benefits, funding, facilities, and resources that are offered to all other student organizations on campus,” the university said in a previous statement. “The University of Iowa does not tolerate discrimination of any kind in accordance with federal and state law.”

“Leaders of the (BLC) student group must sign a ‘statement of faith’ that says that sexual relationships should only be between a married husband and wife, according to court documents,” added the university.

GLAAD Grammys Week Recording Academy panel main

GLAAD partnered with the Recording Academy, Out magazine, and The Ally Coalition for a first-ever of its kind star-packed Grammy week panel titled “Empowered: LGBTQ + Voices in Music.”

The panel, which took place on the Wednesday before the 61st Annual Grammy Awards, included Linda Perry (the first ever woman nominated for a Grammy in the Producer of the Year Non-Classical category), singer VINCINT (FOX’s The Four), producer/songwriter/performer Asiahn, breakout vocalist Shea Diamond, country music CMT breakthrough Brandon Stansell (Hometown), 16-year-old DJ Nhandi Craig (aka DJ Young 1), and ally Dan Reynolds (lead singer of Imagine Dragons and the founder of LOVELOUD).

The discussion was moderated by Recording Academy Editor In Chief of Digital Content & Strategy Justin Dwayne Joseph and Out magazine’s Entertainment and Culture Editor Tre’vell Anderson.

LGBTQ Voices in Music Grammys Panel 1

Linda Perry kicked things off by discussing what it was like living authentically out of the closet in the ’80s and ’90s and her answers had the whole audience laughing. “I’ve always been gay,” she explained. “It’s just who I was. I never ever let it be a problem. There are people like me who have never allowed people to look at me differently. I walked right through those barriers. … when someone pushes you, they’re testing you. Just don’t let people push. You have to stay strong.”

Grammys week LGBTQ Voices in Music panel 2

When asked about what it means to be an ally, Dan Reynolds spoke about how fully he understands how privileged his life has been and how he feels obligated to make the world a better place for others. “We need allies,” he explained. “Check your reservations at the door. Be educated, but do not be indifferent.”

Grammys week LGBTQ Voices in Music panel 3

DJ Nhandi, at only 16, brought a level of maturity to the conversation that blew everyone away, speaking about how even though many people in her generation see gender differently, she still sometimes experiences discrimination in school. “I have a lot of family members who are part of the LGBTQ community,” she said. “It was the norm to be accepted. It was the norm to be different.”

Grammys week LGBTQ + Voices in Music panel

And Shea Diamond spoke about the importance of inclusivity within the community and her experiences as a transgender Black woman in the music industry. As for the future, Diamond says it’s in the hands of Nhandi’s generation. “Nothing can ever get done focusing on older generations,” she said. “I try to focus my energies on the new minds. The youth spread (the message) faster than anyone else.”

VINCINT and Asiahn both spoke about how although they were each respectively pigeonholed at points in their careers, they chose to define themselves rather than allow the industry to define them.

The audience consisted of high school music students from the LA Unified School District, along with Academy members and other invited guests, all of whom were greeted by a DJ set from Nhandi as they arrived.

Everyone in the crowd, talent and students alike, had a blast exploring the Grammy Museum’s new exhibit honoring 2019 MusiCares Person of the Year, Dolly Parton, while laughing and taking photos on the red carpet.
