Lance Bass and Michael Turchin Are Trying For Twins Via Surrogate; So Are Ian Thorpe and His Partner

Lance Bass and Michael Turchin Are Trying For Twins Via Surrogate; So Are Ian Thorpe and His Partner

The two global gay superstar couples are looking to expand their families.

Us magazine in an exclusive today said Bass told them: “We’re [he and husband Michael Turpin] already on donor number seven right now, so I think we broke a record with how many donors we’ve gone through. But it’s looking like this next one is actually going to work.”

Meanwhile in the land down under former Olympian and gold winning swimmer Ian Thorpe and his partner Ryan Channing are doing the same.

According to Daily Mail Australia, the champion swimmer confirmed the celebrity couple were planning on having a child together after Channing was spotted leaving a fertility clinic in Los Angeles.

Channing said he and Thorpe had decided on a fertility clinic in Los Angeles because of the strict laws in Australia.

“Becoming parents is something that Ian and myself would love to make happen,” Channing said. “Unfortunately the laws in Australia are difficult for same sex males in regards to surrogacy — California state law has really progressed in this space which makes it the best option legally.”

HISTORY WILL BE MADE TODAY IN NY AS GOV. ANDREW CUOMO IS POISED TO SIGN PRO-LGBTQ MEASURES INTO LAW: The Gender Expression Non-Discrimination Act (GENDA) and legislation protecting LGBTQ youth in the state from the dangerous and debunked practice of so-called “conversion therapy” will be signed at a ceremony at the New York City LGBT Community Center, marking the culmination of more than a decade of work by HRC and many others, both inside and outside of the Capitol. GENDA solidifies existing law by explicitly adding gender identity and expression to the New York Human Rights Law.

HRC CALLS ON VA HOUSE OF DELEGATES TO PASS CRUCIAL NON-DISCRIMINATION PROTECTIONS FOR LGBTQ VIRGINIANS:

FLASHBACK FRIDAY — TRUMP’S TRANSGENDER MILITARY BAN AND LESSONS FROM A LIFETIME OF GENDER-POLICING: “In Trump’s America and elsewhere, anyone who appears to depart from the gender binary is instantly cast as a suspect, but the ability to shrug off this suspicion is heavily contingent on one’s skin color, bank account, and geographic fortune,” writes Masha Gessen (@mashagessen), a staff writer at The New Yorker. “Even those who are not affected by the Supreme Court decision have been reminded once again that our rights can be taken away at any time, on a whim — that the widespread impulse toward gender-policing has the force of the highest branches of government behind it.”  More from The New Yorker.

HYATTSVILLE, MD NEW POLICE CHIEF MAKES HISTORY: “Little girls are like, ‘My chief is a girl?! High five!’” said Amal Awad. “It’s a good feeling because you’re standing in a position where you’re able to influence and inspire young people to aspire to do something to help the greater good.” Awad is the first black, first woman and first LGBTQ chief in the department’s 132-year history. More from The Washington Post.

EXEC. DIRECTOR OF NATIONAL BLACK JUSTICE COALITION CALLS ON CONGRESS TO PASS THE EQUALITY ACT: “Too often, simply as a result of who we are and how we identify, we risk being denied public services and access to places like hospitals, service stations and restaurants,” writes David J. Johns (@MrDavidJohns) in an oped for The Hill. “Without non-discrimination protections we also risk being denied access to housing and shelter, education and employment opportunities– consequently the skills, experiences, and relationships needed to unlock the pathway to the American dream.” More from The Hill.

GLAAD Announces the Nominees for the 30th Annual GLAAD Media Awards

GLAAD Announces the Nominees for the 30th Annual GLAAD Media Awards

GLAAD announced today the nominees for the 30th Annual GLAAD Media Awards live from Park City, Utah during the Sundance Film Festival. Mj Rodriguez (Pose) and Nico Santos (Crazy Rich Asians, NBC’s Superstore) announced the nominees via live-stream on GLAAD’s Facebook page hosted by AT&T. This year’s GLAAD Media Awards honor the fair, accurate and inclusive representations of LGBTQ individuals and issues that were published, released or broadcast from January 1 to December 31, 2018.

From a wide range of incredible submissions, the 30th Annual GLAAD Media Awards honors 151 nominees in 27 categories, including an inaugural category for Outstanding Video Game. Other categories include Kids & Family Programming, Comedy and Drama Series, Documentary, Reality Series, Music Artist, Comic Book, print, broadcast and online news, and five-spanish language categories. Based on a powerful rise in fair, accurate and inclusive LGBTQ representation and images in film, the GLAAD Media Awards have chosen – for the first time ever – to increase the number of nominees in the Outstanding Film – Limited Release category from five to ten.

“The images and stories recognized by the GLAAD Media Awards over the past 30 years raised the bar for LGBTQ inclusion in the media industry and changed the hearts and minds of countless audience members around the world,” said Sarah Kate Ellis, GLAAD President and CEO. “This year’s nominees are changing the game by showcasing diverse races, genders, religions, ages, geographies, and genres in ways that challenge misconceptions and inspire LGBTQ acceptance. The 30th anniversary of the GLAAD Media Awards will honor these groundbreaking new LGBTQ stories while remembering the astounding positive cultural change that LGBTQ media representations have achieved.”

Among the nominees: The Favourite, Can You Ever Forgive Me?, Boy Erased, Love Simon, and Crazy Rich Asians; ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy, Modern Family, Fresh Off the Boat, American Idol, The Good Doctor, and Nightline; NBC’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Superstore, Will & Grace, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and NBC Nightly News; Netflix’s Dear White People, One Day at a Time, Fuller House, Sense8, Anne with an E, She-Ra, Queer Eye, Nanette, and Elite; CBS’ Instinct, CBS Sunday Morning, CBS News, and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert; The CW’s Black Lightning, Supergirl, and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend; FX’s Pose, The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story and American Horror Story: Apocalypse; Starz’ Vida; HBO’s Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, Wyatt Cenac’s Problem Areas, Vice News Tonight, and Believer, a documentary featuring Imagine Dragons’ Dan Reynolds work to increase LGBTQ inclusion in the Mormon Church; Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale; 2019 Grammy nominees Janelle Monáe, Brandi Carlile, and Sophie; VH1’s RuPaul’s Drag Race and the first nomination for VH1’s Love & Hip Hop: New York; CNN New Day‘s interview with Olympian Adam Rippon and CNN Tonight with Don Lemon’s feature story on the Masterpiece Cake Supreme Court ruling; a CNBC.com story that sparked companies to speak out against the proposed rollback of marriage equality in Bermuda, and a Yahoo! profile of Cuban-American bisexual gun reform advocate Emma Gonzales. Univision earned seven nominations in GLAAD’s Spanish-language media categories. Telemundo earned four nominations and CNN en Español earned one.

As part of GLAAD’s work to increase LGBTQ stories in the gaming industry and leverage the gaming community to grow LGBTQ acceptance, GLAAD will honor LGBTQ-inclusive content in video games for the first time this year. The inaugural round of nominees includes Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey (Ubisoft), The Elder Scrolls Online: Summerset (Bethesda Softworks), Guild Wars 2: Path of Fire (ArenaNet), Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire (Versus Evil), and The Sims Mobile (Electronic Arts).

“GLAAD has always leveraged diverse forms of media to share LGBTQ stories which change hearts and minds, and as the video game industry reaches new heights of popularity and influence, it is imperative that LGBTQ people and issues are included in fair and accurate ways,” Ellis continued.

At this year’s Awards, GLAAD is proud to announce Special Recognition Awards to the following recipients: Nanette, a Netflix special starring queer comedian Hannah Gadsby; TransMilitary, a documentary which premiered on Logo and spotlighted the lives of transgender service members; and House of Mamis, a Spanish-language docuseries about a LGBTQ voguing community in Mexico City, which was broadcast by the LGBTQ site INTOMore.com.

In the coming weeks, GLAAD will announce the Special Honorees for the 30th Annual Media Awards. At last year’s event in Los Angeles, Britney Spears was honored with the Vanguard Award and Jim Parsons recieved the Stephen F. Kolzak Award. At last year’s New York ceremony, Ava DuVernay was honored with the Excellence in Media Award, Samira Wiley with the Vito Russo Award, and Ms. Gloria Carter with a special recognition award.

The 30th Annual GLAAD Media Awards will be held at The Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles on Thursday, March 28, followed by a second ceremony at the Hilton Midtown in New York on Saturday, May 4.

The 30th Annual GLAAD Media Awards are presented by corporate partners Delta Air Lines, Gilead and Ketel One Family-Made Vodka. GLAAD is also grateful to: Official Partner Bud Light; Platinum Partners Disney ABC Television Group, Hulu, MetLife, Omnicom Group, Turner; and Gold Partner Nielsen. Trump Ally Roger Stone Arrested by FBI in Dawn Raid, Indicted in Mueller Probe

Trump Ally Roger Stone Arrested by FBI in Dawn Raid, Indicted in Mueller Probe

Trump ally and conspiracy theorist Roger Stone was arrested by the FBI at a dawn raid at his home in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and is expected to appear at federal court this morning.

The NYT reports: “Roger J. Stone Jr., a longtime informal adviser to President Trump, was charged as part of the special counsel investigation over his communications with WikiLeaks, the organization behind the release of thousands of stolen Democratic emails during the 2016 campaign, in an indictment unsealed Friday.Mr. Stone was charged with seven counts, including obstruction of an official proceeding, making false statements and witness tampering, according to the special counsel’s office.”

The Washington Post reports: ‘During the White House race, Stone publicly cheered on the group WikiLeaks as it released hacked emails that embarrassed Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton. Stone also claimed before the election that he was in contact with WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange whom he called “my hero.” In July, a grand jury indicted 12 Russian military officers on charges that they orchestrated the hacks and distributed pilfered documents to WikiLeaks and other sites. After the election, Stone acknowledged exchanging what he characterized as benign messages with Guccifer 2.0, a Twitter persona that U.S. intelligence officials say was a front operated by the Russian military officers. But Stone has repeatedly denied any contact with Russia or WikiLeaks. He has said he had no advance knowledge of what material WikiLeaks held, adding that predictions he made about the group’s plans were based on Assange’s public comments and tips from associates.’

CNN reports: ‘The indictment’s wording does not say who on the campaign knew about Stone’s quest, but makes clear it was multiple people. This is the first time prosecutors have alleged they know of additional people close to the President who worked with Stone as he sought out WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange. “After the July 22, 2016, release of stolen (Democratic National Committee) emails by Organization 1, a senior Trump Campaign official was directed to contact STONE about any additional releases and what other damaging information Organization 1 had regarding the Clinton Campaign. STONE thereafter told the Trump Campaign about potential future releases of damaging material by Organization 1,” prosecutors wrote.’
