Foreign Cyber Attack Disrupted Printing of Major Newspapers This Weekend

The Los Angeles Times, Chicago Tribune, Wall Street Journal, and New York Times  were among the newspapers affected by a malware virus that shut down or disrupted printing and distribution across the country.

Saturday’s attack appeared to originate outside the United States, the Los Angeles Times reported. It led to distribution delays in the Saturday edition of the Times, the Tribune, the Sun, and other newspapers that share a production platform in Los Angeles.

A spokeswoman for the Department of Homeland Security said it was studying the situation. “We are aware of reports of a potential cyber incident affecting several news outlets, and are working with our government and industry partners to better understand the situation,” said DHS spokeswoman Katie Waldman.

Tribune Publishing, which owns the Chicago Tribune and the Sun, as well as the New York Daily News and Orlando Sentinel, said it first detected the malware on Friday.

The west coast editions of the Wall Street Journal and New York Times were also hit, as they are printed on the shared production platform, the Los Angeles Times said.

“There is no evidence that customer credit card information or personally identifiable information has been compromised,” Kollias said.

The last high-profile cyberattack of a media company was in late 2014 at Sony Pictures Entertainment. The hackers, which the FBI later determined were affiliated with the North Korean government, broke into Sony Pictures’ system and copied huge chunks of data, which they later released online.

Out, Poz NYC Council Member Corey Johnson Sings ‘Full House’ Theme: WATCH

Corey Johnson made history this year and became one of the highest-ranking out, gay, and HIV-positive officials in the country when he was elected speaker of the New York City council (which is second only to NYC’s mayor).

In September in a string of emotional, sincere, and heartfelt tweets,  and the anniversary of learning his HIV diagnoses,  Johnson said overcoming his hard partying benders on cocaine and alcohol, as well as the day he learned he was HIV-positive, contributed to his success today.

The speaker traveling in the bay areas for the holidays tweeted a funny video of him and a friend driving across the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco while singing the theme to Full House.

Michelle Obama ‘Most Admired Woman of 2018’ Says Gallup Poll

Michelle Obama ‘Most Admired Woman of 2018’ Says Gallup Poll

Former first lady Michelle Obama has been named America’s most admired woman of 2018, according to a Gallup poll.

It’s the first time in 17 years, a woman other than Hillary Clinton has been named by Americans as the woman they admire most. Obama who finished second to Clinton three times in past polls won by a significant margin this year with 15 percent of those polled picking her. Oprah Winfrey was second with five percent, and Clinton and Melania Trump tied at four percent.

Gallup attributes the switch at the top of the women’s list to the fact that Clinton “more fully retreated to private life after a long career as first lady, U.S. senator, secretary of state and two-time presidential candidate.”

Michelle Obama is currently touring the U.S. to promote her best-selling autobiography, Becoming, putting her back in the spotlight.

One the many appearances that have endeared Ms. Obama was an appearance on Ellen (DeGeneres is also in the top ten) last month where Obama recounted a funny anecdote. Obama described the night that the White House lit up in rainbow colors shortly after the Supreme Court’s ruling on marriage equality. The former First Lady and Malia Obama snuck out of the White house so they could celebrate with the people outside.

Turns out there was more to her story about getting out of the White House than what she had so eloquently written in the book, and she hilariously recounted how she tried to wrangle Barack to come outside as well, and the Secret Service’s pursuit as she and Malia tried to get outside (Watch below).

The top 10 included Queen Elizabeth, who has placed in the top 10 for a record 50th time. German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, talk show host Ellen DeGeneres, former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley, human rights activist Malala Yousafzai and House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi are the other top 10 finishers this year.

Wrote Rolling Stone: ‘During chapter transitions and outfit changes, Gaga appeared as an anime-video game digital incarnation of herself on screen, chasing after a literal star to a score from her live band. Those moments as well as her own hyper-theatrical exchanges with Enigma and the audience still need a bit smoothing out, but the vampy, campy nature made the show feel at times like an interactive ride at Universal Studios that makes you almost wish that the seats moved like a roller coaster as cartoon Gaga traverses space.’

And finally, “Shallow”.

Said Gaga as she began the Star Is Born hit: “I love you so much. I’ve known some of you for so long. Do you remember this? (she pointed to her vintage Gaga concert t-shirt) That’s you and me. And for a really long time, I felt so misunderstood. I thought the way I dressed, the way I talk, the attitude, they thought it was shallow. But this sh*t is deep as f**k. I love you so much. I’m so proud to be your star, but the truth is, you gave birth to me.”
